The Bluestocking, where the short days shorten and the oaks are brown

Welcome all, regulars and newcomers, to the Bluestocking Women's Pub, a place of refuge and inspiration and camaraderie and silliness, where all alcoholic drinks are non-intoxicating, cakes contain no gluten, sugar or calories, but still taste yummy, and the attentive staff are small but very professional rodents wearing snazzy little outfits.

Other roles - such as acting as foot stools, looking decorative in the garden, or just being impossibly cute when you need something impossibly cute to go awwww at - are filled by a team of miniature pigs, quokkas, wombats, etc etc.

If real life is difficult, you can bring your troubles to the Bluestocking and a comfy chair will be found for you at a roaring fire, a miniature pig will settle down happily to support your tired feet, and a gerbil will serve you promptly with a comforting drink - very large G&Ts or massive mugs of hot chocolate with extra cream and marshmallows are popular choices [don't forget: no calories in the BluestockingSmile].

Weekend (holiday time) Mod syndrome.

And yet that seems such an obvious thing to say…

Yes i know i was told i was making a personal attack.

i think it may because i said body dysmorphia as opposed to gender dysphoria.

I have managed to avoid a deletion for a few years now.

oh well never mind will swerve the person in question.

MyrtleLion · 26/10/2025 14:36

I am sleeping so much!

Finished dinner by 7.30pm, went to bed. The walrus went to the pub. He staggered (quite literally) in at 11.30, waking me. Then I slept until new time of very late so it was very late indeed. Now home and dying to go to bed some more.

I wish they'd told me that having an MSSA infection was actually making me ill and tired.

Lovely breakfast in the hotel, though. Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and lots of pastries.

Britinme · 26/10/2025 14:46

I envy your sleep @MyrtleLion , though not the infection that led up to it. I have had a run of three bad nights now, and a total sleep of around12 hours over those four days. I may have to take a pill tonight.

EdithStourton · 26/10/2025 15:34

My sympathies, Brit. I'm not the world's best sleeper - I was awake till 4 the other night.

MarieDeGournay · 26/10/2025 15:52

If you feel like sleeping, sleep, Myrtle. You've been through so much, it's not surprising that you need lots of rest. And good food. Fuel for your recoverySmile
It's a quiet day in the Bluestocking anyway, so I don't think you'll be missing anything exciting!

I have a headache.

Magpiecomplex · 26/10/2025 16:58

Been out for lunch today. Very nice food, I had smoked haddock with a poached duck egg and a small mountain of mash! And samphire, which seems to be becoming ubiquitous.

I have a headache.

Pull up a footstool in a shady corner, I'll send a gerbil over.

Magpiecomplex · 26/10/2025 17:07

@FuzzyPuffling what would Modom fancy?

Myrtle, when I came home from hospital after my 16 days of intravenous high-dose antibiotics (Flucloxacillin) for severe cellulitis, I couldn't stop sleeping. I'd slept badly in hospital because of being woken for slow infusions in the middle of the night and was SO tired. It took me quite a long time to feel completely well again. Strong antibiotics mess with your system, so be kind to yourself.

Britinme · 26/10/2025 18:31

And eat plenty of yogurt to combat the side effects of the antibiotics.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/10/2025 18:34

A hot chocolate please gerbil. Thank you.

DeanElderberry · 26/10/2025 19:36

B vitamins are also important when you're on antibiotics (even more than usual, you know what I think about Thiamine) because the extra fluids you need while on them flush the Bs out of your system.

SionnachRuadh · 26/10/2025 20:03

Port and lemon please gerbil.

I've got a wee bottle of CBD drops to help me sleep, and I use them sparingly, but my sleep patterns have been all up the left recently and I may have to use them again.

On the plus side, lack of sleep means I've been racing through Andrew Lownie's new book on the Yorks, and... well, I can't say I had a high opinion of Andrew and Fergie to begin with, but my opinion of them is currently burrowing through the earth's core to Australia.

He says his next book will be on Philip, and I am agog with anticipation.

“Entitled” thats it am ordering it now

SionnachRuadh · 26/10/2025 20:55

I will say, I'm amazed nobody has done a serious investigation into them until now. They're an open cast mine of scandal.

I thought Fergie might be a dull subject, but she turns out to be this quite intriguing Becky Sharp type character. I don't excuse the things she's done, but I think I understand her a little better.

I hope somebody has heard from her - she has taken breaks from the Bluestocking before but was spotted elsewhere...
Boily, where are you? we miss you!💙

Could we fashion a Batsignal, but in the form of a Tunnocks caramel wafer?

Hedgehogsrightsarehumanrights · 26/10/2025 21:25

I suppose i could set about stealing her secret stash of snowballs, that plot brought her back in the past. Up for it @Swashbuckled ?

JanesLittleGirl · 26/10/2025 23:26

I wouldn't chase Boily. She drews her own weird and she is free to come and go as she pleases.

DeanElderberry · 27/10/2025 07:59

Of course she is, but I do miss her.

Bank holiday here today.

You're right, Boily just turned up again as freewheeling and clever and inventive as ever last time there was an absence.
As long as she knows she's missed...
The snowball heist sounds like a plan, though I expect security around them has been tightened after the theft of the crown jewels from the Louvre😄

having never come across the phrase before, I guessed ‘Drews her own weird’ was a Scots dialect term or a typo… bit of both?
