Welcome one and all - as the nights draw in, pull up a chair to the fire, and the gerbils will be along soon with hot chocolate and Tunnock’s teacakes.

@Britinme I assume Lemon must have registered a second account with a different email address. It's the only way I can think of around the problem.

Britinme · 02/09/2025 20:28

@MagpiecomplexAh yes that might account for it. @AsWithGladthat might be worth a try. Thanks for the Michael Foran sub!

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2025 20:56

I used to accidentally have two accounts a long time ago but got rid of one - i don’t know know if there’s anything in the t&cs but I wouldn’t have thought it was approved of as it would obviously enable sockpuppeting etc.

Bannedontherun · 02/09/2025 21:58

<nips in looks around> my vow of silence did not have to last too long then.

Sorry this is a long one.

Well that was not a good episode in a rather lengthy harmonious atmosphere at the Bluestocking.

In my silence i did read back over the difficult period again.

I joined MN very late in the day and lurked for a good six months before i said a word. When i finally contributed i got quite a bit of a battering left right and centre, but also lots of directions on sourcing information and books.

I was Karensallright at the time.

My first brave dive in to the “clique” was the Rossers thread where i learnt who the long players on MN were (the leadership if you will)

I did not at the time understand some of the in jokes or some of the coded words.

I laughed my arse off and that Christmas nearly did not happen at my house. I had found a new intellectual and emotional home.

This place is a pub, a refuge for the weary of voice, elsewhere on the board, for activists in the real world, writers, famous people, and for those who are less goby and lurk more than speak.

The collection of avatars reflect that.

As with a real pub you cannot just rock up and stand centre stage at the bar without having built some kind of personal style and substance, and familiarised yourself with the locals, and the lingo.

I am trying here to psychobabble my own reactions and that of others, once it kicked off so to speak, which actually none of us did.

We just made the usual barbed jokes and AI, nuances, plus a few emotional expressions, not unbeknown to this space.

Lemon and the flouncer really did not get this at all because clearly they had not been around long enough, studied enough, or read the room.

I personally had a guttural reaction, there are fragile people on the board and in real life, which is hard to accommodate.

The war that we are in, means we may have to carry our injured soldiers, but we cannot as well, carry those that are severely injured before battle.

I mean emotionally speaking.

Those that are so very injured in real life that they are not fit for battle, need support elsewhere, but i don’t think this is the set up or dynamic of either the FWR board or this pub.

Mw ha ha ha ha ha I know the deepest secret of Mumsnet. I have the power to to change Usernames unlimited mid thread (which I didn't know was discouraged). It's not multiple emails addresses. The secret will leave with meeeeeeee as it's probably for the best this power doesn't get out, let's be honest. Bye 👋👋 👋

I rest my case

FinalDropofLemonJuice · 02/09/2025 22:16

Banned look at the time signature it was obviously a cross post - I hadn't read yours before I posted, the other ones prior were asking about the name change.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2025 22:25

The miscommunication jinx continues😩

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2025 22:28

name changes in a thread are supposed to now be impossible to stop ‘sockpuppeting’ which is where someone makes a fake conversation or devils advocate or supporters. In the Bluestocking it led to various seagulls disappearing and ColinTheDachshund having to lurk silently with nary a woof.

Bannedontherun · 02/09/2025 23:06

I am still reading NC167 page submissions, and no where near finished yet and @Boiledbeetle is just a show off or an intellectual giant, or a retired person or all of the above.

Britinme · 02/09/2025 20:07

I'd want to see those two laser beams emanating directly from the titanium tits.

Build your own android, then. I'm happy with things as they are.

You can use one of the workshops at the Bluey & some of Marie & Myrtle's bits from their model-making. Someone else has Lego.

And when you've finished, I'll take her on in android-on-android combat (the first person who says Robot Wars gets blasted).

Take that, Lego Tits!

Britinme · 02/09/2025 23:18

Ha ha I’ll back down in any technological contest!

Not telling

ifIwerenotanandroid · 02/09/2025 23:29

Well, it's not me, & that's probably all I need to know.

Bannedontherun · 02/09/2025 23:32

Me neither but the rattle of yacht keys are audible

ifIwerenotanandroid · 02/09/2025 23:36

That's just Boily, isn't it? Or did you steal them from her?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2025 23:39

Are you sure they’re yacht keys? Are they on a floaty key ring in case of being dropped overboard?

I should be reading it, but my battered old copy of Uncle Dynamite was calling out to me.

You mean the cork ball, to stop the keys sinking i have one of them for my canal boat which i share in a co op (hippy i am)

I have been fighting over yacht keys in a number of threads. Boily always wins.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2025 23:57

Silly me I should have known you’d know whether keys belonged to a boat or not.

inkymoose · 03/09/2025 00:01

@NoLongerLemon I am really sorry you are leaving. I apologise for any upset I may have caused by saying the wrong thing(s) - in particular, the comment about treading on people's toes. I did not intend to sound cliquey or to exclude you, or anyone else - indeed the whole two-hedgehogs situation was quite baffling to me. I've always seen the Bluestocking threads as being surreal but with a backbone of acceptance and kindness. I think the situation escalated because it's difficult to "read" intention from words on a page. So I apologise to you and any other people I may have upset -

"I'm just a fool whose intentions are good,
O lord, please don't let me be misunderstood "

DeanElderberry · 03/09/2025 06:41

Whether we use personae or just present as versions of our human selves, we all bring STUFF with us that our fellow posters might get intimations of as time goes on. We can tease and rewrite and prod the gerbils all we like, they're resilient.

Actual posters less so, there are all sorts of troubles lurking in our backgrounds. We have survived this long on mutual respect and on not playing tricks on each other and on not stirring pots. I'm sorry Lemon feels bruised, being new to a place, real or online, always brings a danger of inadvertently putting ones foot in it. Whatever 'it' is.

My trouble yesterday, great and overshadowing, was that my local bookshop DID NOT HAVE A COPY of a certain just-published tome. 'So sorry, maybe Thursday'.

Bloody Thursday.
