Well done Sarah 💕

Coconutmeg · 01/08/2025 18:24

Naomi Cunningham is busy out there sorting it all out as best she can. What a hero !

Waitingfordoggo · 02/08/2025 07:18

I’m pretty sure @Hicc, yes.

Igmum · 03/08/2025 09:11

Excellent news thank you Sarah 👏

@Brainworm I suspect the ‘sorting’, such as it is, may be by availability. Women are likely to want single sex provision and this may result in queues once it’s established so the choice may be mixed sex available now or single sex available in however many weeks or months time.

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 03/08/2025 09:15

This is excellent but Sarah should never have had to go through this. Everyone with an ounce of common sense knows that rape services should be for biological women only. Everyone.

Brighton, what is wrong with you? What’s in that sea air?

illinivich · 03/08/2025 10:42

I just been looking at their website.

Honestly, it reads as if its exclusively for trans people:

Who is it for?
Our service is open to Brighton & Hove residents 18+ years of age who have experienced sexual violence, abuse and/or harassment, no matter when or how it happened.
When the waiting list is open again, we accept referrals for people who identify as women. We also accept referrals for gender-diverse people (including but not limited to non-binary, genderqueer, questioning / unsure, gender fluid) who would like to access support from our therapeutic service.
^If you identify as a man, there is support available from Mankind, who provides support for people who identify as men. More information can be found here: https://mkcharity.org/access-our-services/^
We understand that, for some people, gender is not a fixed identity and may change over time. Some clients may join the waiting list while they identify as a woman and either while waiting or while accessing therapy this may change. We are committed to offering support to these clients, irrespective of their gender identity. Clients who identify as men subsequent to being accepted onto the waiting list may wish to access support from Mankind, rather than Survivors’ Network, but this will be their choice to make.

Its like it was taken over and stopped being a support service for sexual abuse and became somewhere to confirm gender identity.

So glad you're motivated to continue the good fight Sarah. Thank you for everything you've done and are doing.

anotherusernameagainnew · 04/08/2025 13:07

@IamSarah congrats, been following your story but agree that it is odd and frustrating they deactivated their twitter etc.

@HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum I saw this reddit thread about this. someone posted a thread trying to say it was a bad thing but it seems that most people on the thread disagreed! So it does not seem to be everyone in Brighton who thinks this way - https://www.reddit.com/r/brighton/comments/1mbqdh0/brightonbased_rape_crisis_centre_bullied_into/

lcakethereforeIam · 12/08/2025 10:36

Sarah you're in the Telegraph

https://archive.ph/pGQe1

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/08/12/nightmare-legal-battle-exclude-men-from-rape-crisis-group/

It seems a good interview to me. You've really been through the mill, firstly with the abuse you suffered at the hands of men then at the hands of women whose literal job description was to help women and girls like you. Also a journey from twaw to gc. It struck me how tras always put the worst possible interpretation on our 'side'. Ask for ss services means we want tw to have none at all apparently. The constant catastrophising is tiresome, insulting and a bit 'boy who cries wolf'. I'm sorry for everything you've been through but you are a survivor, please take pride in your strength and, despite everything, your empathy for both sides ❤️

As a companion piece, I noticed a link to an article from April. Despite the headline the situation is evolving and more nuanced

Just noticed the interviewer was Julie Bindel.

IamSarah · 12/08/2025 11:22

Thank you for sharing @lcakethereforeIamand I hope it explains my side of things ok.

Julie Bindel has been really supportive throughout the last few years, I am really happy she did the interview.

I’m so pleased to hear this.

it looks like there has been a change of leadership. The former CEO Jay Breslaw who i believe was very TWAW, stopped working for them last year, according to her linked in. Their website doesn’t say who is now in that role.

This is what Breslaw submitted to Parliament during the GRA consultation. https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/17524/pdf/ (pdf download)

That woman has no business being anywhere near a rape survivor.

IamSarah · 01/10/2025 16:36

I wanted to update everyone who followed my case that there will be a new women’s org launching next week offering therapeutic retreats and courses.

This is nothing to do with survivors network it’s entirely separate. It was set up by a group of women (including me!) who want women to have access to affordable group therapy.

Info here https://sistersheal.co.uk/

I know everyone who supported my case really wanted women to have access to single sex rape crisis therapy and although there will be a group now run by SN this really isn’t enough.

Thank you to everyone for the support and gardening that has made this possible 🌺

All courses are single-sex, trauma informed and survivor-led

💗

What wonderful news. I wish it wasn't needed, but I'm glad you have brought this into existence.

Aw thank you @Boiledbeetle! You have been with me every step of the way and will never forget you getting me over the line with your wonderful gardening. Maybe you would like to come on a retreat with us one day x

I may just do that one day. I see even the chefs are female, and the whole thing sounds like it would be good for the soul.

Floisme · 01/10/2025 17:12

Thank you, @IamSarah for everything you have done.
I hope you managed to get that holiday you were talking about.

That's just amazing.

Given everything you have been put through, that no only have you won a point of principle for women in being entitled to women only services, but have set up a service.

Flowers

I hope that you are now free of all the negative pressures you have been under.

I did thank you Floisme, instead of going to court I had a wonderful few days away all on my own and it was bliss.

Whentostarthrt · 01/10/2025 17:42

Incredible news! Well done to everyone who has fought for this.

Byjimminy · 01/10/2025 19:32

That's a fabulous outcome. You should be super proud.

fabricstash · 01/10/2025 20:30

👏🏻

bincrate · 01/10/2025 21:12

Well done Sarah, you should be so proud of yourself. May you find peace and strength in the new organisation and knowing you will be helping women so much.

I like the idea of doing Kintsugi!
