Montgomery Toms has been arrested for wearing a sign showing the pink & blue stripes of trans=mental illness.

Arrested. What has happened to free speech in this country?

You have no idea what I'm buying darling, but keep the insults coming your mask is slipping

Those were questions. Not insults. Questions. You know like - exchange of ideas? Curiosity. That sort of thing

I was one of them. I'm ashamed to say I initially 'hate-read', thinking these awful, bigoted posters were being so cruel to the poor, vulnerable transwomen with women brains. It wasn't their fault they were born in the wrong body. They were harmless and at risk.

It took a long time, but I reached the summit, with the help of the calm, logical responses by much cleverer women than me. And I'm forever grateful.

If someone comes along with reasoned arguments as to why the gender critical position is incorrect, I'll absolutely change my mind back again. But it hasn't happened yet.

Always most disappointed when someone decides we're not awful after all.

I've been working so hard on my viperin.

And POUNCING.

I'm getting better.

Me too!
I stumbled on to the Peggie thread and thought people were being a bit harsh. But also funny and clever. So I followed along and was persuaded to corroborate by tuning into the Tribunal… still reading and learning. No idea how all the veterans here remains calm. Thank you for doing so tho 🙏🏻

No way, Knotty! I thought you'd been around for ages!

Thanks for all your doing on the NHS stuff. It's awesome 🥰

So you know I support equal treatment for all and call the failure to arrest themselves people a policing failure, but still decided to claim I don't believe in equal treatment and want to favour the guys sign this thread was about.

Talk about dishonest.

Well to be fair, have you been onto trans Reddit scolding them about their behaviour? If not, why not? Why is it only us who get harangued and lectured about being kind?

Probably because they'd be banned in 0.35 milliseconds for wrongspeak...

Give it a go @SugarSoiree and let us know how you get on.

But but I thought we were supposed to be the echo chamber that wouldn’t tolerate any other opinions and trans people were perfect angels of rationality and peace that deserved all our kindness.

UnlockedXCX · 08/07/2025 20:36

Looked this guy up and he's:

  • Homophobic
  • Against the COVID vaccine
  • Still very angry that the COVID lockdowns happened
  • Against migrants
  • Against marxism and communism
  • Believes in the 'divine masculine and feminine'

Not the best face for gender criticism, he just furthers the idea that anyone against TRA talk is a humungous hateful bigot.

🤔. Yes that's an interesting point.

So on the one board, women encourage discussion (albeit robustly, if you can't substantiate your claims you get handed your arse)

On the other... say a word we disagree with and get deleted and banned.

It's a bit like one has reality behind it and the other one... Is Reddit

But 'gender criticism' isn't a thing that should need a 'best face'.

Believing sex is real is what most people on the planet believe. Because it's a fact. Of course the politics and views across that will be different.

I have no interest in making 'sex is real' a tribal view. It's a biological reality.

So what, though? I don't really agree with what he said on his board, no idea what his other views are.

The point remains that his fairly mild sign led to an arrest, while trans activists hold signs calling for the violent death and rape of women, and are ignored.

It's not arrest-able though !

DeanElderberry · 08/07/2025 21:12

Although I think his sign was not appropriate for the occasion (and although he sounds pretty dodgy in other ways) it has made me think about why we have all been made feel we have to pretend not to see the central issue - that 'trans' genderism is a massive public mental health crisis that suddenly blew up out of nowhere.

Why? Why has it received so much money and support?

Because we call other mental health issues what they are. We are not afraid to say that people are mentally unwell, it is not seen as an insult or as something that a person, with the right support, can't recover from.

All very interesting.

I have no idea who he is. There are a great many people who share the belief that the knowledge that sex is immutable and that women and children need certain protections that have come into conflict with a group of people who have campaigned, with some success, to have their demands prioritised above sex based needs and the needs of children.

Different people have different motivations from feminists. And the term “gender critical” was originally “gender critical feminist”. It is often inappropriately used to encompass people who are not feminists, don’t support feminist principles and who have very different motivations than feminists but who work for similar outcomes.

Is he ‘gender critical’ even with the ‘feminist’ chopped from the label? I don’t know. Should he have been arrested for the sign he wore? Are there double standards clearly to be found in his arrest?

Has anyone expressed support for any of his other views, or even this one? I think some posters have used the sign as a discussion starter. I don’t know whether many even know who he is. Is it relevant to what happened to him which was being arrested for a sign when others carrying messages of violence and aggression are not arrested?

Against marxism and communism

Aren't most people?

Only a radical lefty would think that's a genuine black mark.

Agreed
It's crass

When I see the word 'provocative' it always raises red flags. In my experience it's how people shut down debate on gender ideology. If someone dares to bring up anything they disagree with like 'trans women are actually men' they are being 'deliberately provocative' or even if there's something that suggests they are gender critical they are classed as provocative. I've noticed about 6 posters using this word in first few pages of the thread. It means nothing. It's like saying 'I'm offended.'
And it's a complete double standard if this guy was arrested and the countless amounts of people holding 'death to terfs' placards were not.

Exactly. That list doesn’t lead to an arrest.

The aggression and violence from men against women is far more pronounced.

There is currently a Transwoman on another thread being derogatory about GC men. I expect @SugarSoireeto appear on there any minute to tell him off seeing as she believes in fairness.

@SugarSoiree

'My views are perfectly clear, I don't believe trans women belong in women's sex spaces, however I don't believe it is acceptable to deride and mock the way the posters here do.'

The only reason transwomen are not allowed in women's spaces is in no small part because of the campaigning and hard work of women on this very board over the last decade or more.

They have been threatened, derided, mocked and sneered at for protecting women.

If they had had your attitude, had continued to #BeKind, had centred men's feelings over women's rights, I have no doubt that women's spaces would no longer exist in this country.

Talk about being late to the party and then complaining the service...

I want to pick up on this point about deriding and mocking.

Are there any P. G. Wodehouse fans here? I am thinking specifically of Spode, the amateur dictator and his black shorts. Think about when this character was written and what was happening politically in the world in the late 1930s. Deriding and mocking the character in turn made Oswald Mosley look silly, and I can't help but think that this was a good thing.

There is reason why comedy has been so captured and I am glad that Dave Chapelle and Ricky Gervais (her penis, bigot!) have not bowed down to the pressure. We need more mocking and deriding of genuinely harmful people and genuinely harmful ideas, not less. The 'yeet the teets' surgeon, yes, take the piss out of her (not her victims, however). Watch Queen's 'I want to break free' video and laugh at Freddie and the boys' tribute to Corrie. They knew it was funny, and that is why Freddie was asked to keep his moustache.
