Montgomery Toms has been arrested for wearing a sign showing the pink & blue stripes of trans=mental illness.

Arrested. What has happened to free speech in this country?

How can you celebrate same sex attraction when you simultaneously believe men can be women?

Well, first of all, Pride is not only a celebration about same sex attraction.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 05/07/2025 17:55

a light google indicates that he's a bit of a shit stirring weirdo. I agree that turning up to pride with that sign was a fairly pointless and unhelpful thing to do. still shouldn't be arrested for it though. what a massive and self inflicted waste of the police's time

Boiledbeetle · 05/07/2025 17:55

Why did they need 11 police officers for one guy who was in no way resisting?

Kingsleadhat · 05/07/2025 17:55

Cosmosforbreakfast · 05/07/2025 17:23

I don't remember any of the men carrying 'threats of violence to women' signs being arrested.

This. One hundred per cent

No genocide in Gaza.
Blame Hamas for Oct 7th 2023 and still not releasing hostages dead and alive.
That pro Palestine group are terrorists and all should have been arrested today.

https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2024/11/un-special-committee-finds-israels-warfare-methods-gaza-consistent-genocide

The experts think it is genocide because it's blooming obvious it is and everyone who denies it had their own agenda despite what Norma on the 'net says

I'm amazed there are police available to arrest people for badge wearing offences whatever the badge might say

ADreamIsAWishYourArseMakes · 05/07/2025 17:56

He wore that t shirt to pride to be provocative and get a reaction. Mission accomplished.

Yes all those children just dropped dead of their own accord.

SillyDeer · 05/07/2025 18:00

Is it. I don't know if it is or not

changedusernameforthis1 · 05/07/2025 18:01

I think I'm 50/50 with this one. On one hand, he's allowed his opinion. He should be allowed to promote said opinion publicly, as free speech should allow this. And the arrest was unnecessary - police would be better suited to actual crimes. I would have expected security to remove him.

However, whether you like or dislike trans people, whether you believe they have a mental illness or not, going to an event where a lot of trans people attend and feel safe, happy, even excited - just to cause upset is quite poor behaviour.

Whether you believe it should be LGBT or LGB is again, your own opinion. For now, pride is LGBT friendly. I went to my first pride when my eldest (14) was a year old and it was LGBT then. I attended a support group years before that which was LGBT friendly.

Trans people aren't going anywhere. GC people aren't going anywhere. So we can either spend our lives arguing and fighting each other, having that hatred and anger passed down to our children and grandchildren, or we can find a way to live amongst each other amicably. I am not including men pretending to be women who just want to rape women in this.

Unfortunately, nobody seems to want to move on either side so we'll just continue like this for God knows how long. I doubt I'll see what happens in my lifetime, but it would be nice to think that we could sort this whole mess out.

Just to add - a lot of things we're put down to ask "mental illness" years ago which are now considered perfectly normal.

PandoraSocks · 05/07/2025 18:01

He is a bit of a tit, isn't he? That comment about police "preferring" Muslims to Christians is rather telling.

Ddakji · 05/07/2025 18:06

Fromage · 05/07/2025 17:24

I am not on board with his slogan.

I think it stigmatises mental illness. He's not saying it in a positive, caring way, is he?

And tbh the abusive members of the trans movement might suffer from any type of illness, but that's not the problem, is it? The problem is the abuse, and the perverts, and the anger, and the demands.

Being trans isn't a mental illness. Being an angry creepy weirdo is condemnable on its own.

If it’s not a mental illness then why does it (or “gender dysphoria”, to be more accurate) feature in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition?

How about secondly you answer that poster’s actual point?

😭😭 GOOD

Okay, youre not pro trans. Why come to pride and try to make people feel bad

Also, note, Palestinian activists were arrested for simply asking for the genocide to stop. That's something worth being upset about.

The high court declared them a terrorist group yesterday. But they went out today to protest knowing that being a member of / or supporting Palestine Action could carry a 14 year prison sentence. Rightly they were arrested

For simply calling for an end to the genocide

The govt announcing them a terrorist group will be viewed in the same way as the opposition to the women's right to vote by the future generations

Wrong that they were arrested

No. They weren't simply calling for an end to genocide. They were sat there all holding signs that stated 'i support (the organisation) Palestine Action'
They were openly supporting a terrorist group.

If they had simply been chanting Free Palestine like they do in many cities every weekend, no arrests would have been made.

It was for their support of said group.

Waitwhat23 · 05/07/2025 18:35

Here's some of the placards displayed at what was described on a thread here by one attendee as a cheerful type counter protest events where people were having lovely picnics.

No one was arrested or even as far as I know, spoken to about them. No one at the event seems to have raised any objections at the time.

The Head of a major union even tweeted supportively of said signs!

Any comment from the sad face posters on here? Any condemnation?

And that's not even getting onto the infamous 'decapitate terfs' poster!

If you've not condemned them, you're just bloody hypocrites.

That trans is inherently homophobic.

StMarie4me · 05/07/2025 18:38

Hate speech is illegal.

GreenFriedTomato · 05/07/2025 18:40

Exactly. Kill Terfs is most certainly hate speech

Stressedoutmama123 · 05/07/2025 18:51

I’m fine with it, if someone wore a tshirt that said gay / lesbian / Muslim / Indian = mentally ill I would expect the same

JustSawJohnny · 05/07/2025 18:52

My immediate thoughts are;

1 - If I saw a person wearing that at a Pride event I'd assume they were looking for trouble, if not hoping for it so they could record it and stir up shit.

2 - X is now pretty much a site for propaganda. The amount of right-wing cuntery and outright lies on there is just staggering.

3 - This is not how you cause change.

If anything, this kind of provocative shit will make those who scream 'TERF' less likely to listen.

That trans is inherently homophobic.

Says who? The OP didn't say that in their comment to me, they asked me a question that didn't make sense and I was pointing out that Pride is about much more than just same sex attraction. (If anyone doesn't understand the complexity and history of Pride, Google is just a quick click away!) It would be very silly to just pick the parts of Pride that suit you to make it fit a particular narrative. And in case it wasn't already blindingly obvious to anyone paying attention - I do not believe that being trans or supporting trans people is inherently homophobic in the slightest. That stance is just an opinion, not a fact. Do not confuse the two.
