Elite sports people speaking up!
Signalbox · 30/01/2023 10:29
There seems to be an increasing number of sports people speaking up about the problem of males completing in women's sports which is positive. Thought it might be useful to have a thread of those who are risking sticking their heads above the parapet. Obviously the likes of Sharon Davies, Mara Yamauchi and Martina Navratilova have been bravely doing this for sometime but now we appear to have a few current athletes as well who are prepared to risk the mob to ensure women have fair competition. Is it too much to hope for that there will be a snowball effect?

A growing number of leading British athletes have already voiced their disapproval and Kirsty Law is eager to join them. The two-time British discus champion admits she is in a better position than most to speak out given that, at the age of 36, she is coming towards the end of her career and does not have to play any political game to safeguard her future.
Comments made by a female doctor a few years ago on the BBC Woman’s Hour programme left Law particularly enraged. The doctor suggested that allowing transgender women to participate in female sports ought to help cis women “up their performance” against former males, as perhaps they “cap their performance” when up against other women.

I assume this Dr favours male sprinters running with tigers and male swimmer competing with sharks? After all they must be capping their performance without something more powerful to race against.
Massive eye roll.
How fucking offensive to female sports people.

It really was a remarkable interview. Here's the link for those who want to remind themselves of how tooth grindingly offensive it was...

Clearly women just need to try harder!

First there was shot-putter Amelia Strickler, who told Telegraph Sport the "overwhelming majority" of her fellow athletes opposed including transgender athletes in women's sport but were "afraid to speak out".
Fear of losing sponsors or becoming a target for social media abuse is often cited by those unwilling to engage in the debate, but then came Beth Dobbin, Emily Diamond, Jamie Webb and Ellie Baker, four other British Paris 2024 hopefuls, who also outlined their opposition to World Athletics' "preferred option" ahead of their consultation. More will follow before the British governing bodies convene with Donelan in two weeks to collectively discuss an issue on which public silence among active athletes is fast fading.

I started following him a day or two ago, he's doing a great job of calling out some of the other male athletes who want to "be kind".

Yes he’s pretty blunt isn’t he.

Daley Thompson? Daily sounds a bit .... suggestive.
Male swimmers would object to swimming with sharks because the shark lane would have to be pretty big to allow for tail movement. And their tumble turns would require a pool 20 foot deep. That's even before discussing male or female sharks. But #BeKind.

Still not enough women. I understand the pressures but this is a battle for the existence of women's sport in any meaningful sense. Surely a swimmer or triathlete or rugby player (whose governing bodies have done the right thing) could lend her voice. Cycling? Football? Tennis? Any of the sports in which women stars are well-known names, please speak up, ladies!

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen that's the ticket, can't have the lads failing to try hard enough can we? That's for the lil' ladies who are just too kind to try and win. Real sports are men's sports the girls are just having a bit of fun and not really trying anyway. It will do them good to have a man to emulate.
@Signalbox I'm not sure I can bring myself to listen - I've just eaten. I might try it later when I'm in an empty house so only the neighbours can hear me shouting.
If we ever need proof that even if TW's could give all male biological advantages (which they can't) and drop their testosterone levels to actual female levels that they would still have an advantage there it is.
Boys doing sport are the 'cool' ones, girls doing sport are the ones that 'won't get a boyfriend if the have big muscles' and the ones that are told that they are 'probably lesbian' and told to shut up, and shove over to make room for men. And told it doesn't matter it just a game. And get the boys old kit handed on when the boys team get a new one. And told that girls don't really try and and and ......
