Montgomery Toms has been arrested for wearing a sign showing the pink & blue stripes of trans=mental illness.

Arrested. What has happened to free speech in this country?

Not going to even bother giving any opinions because you're only interested in your own views. Anyone who even mildly disagrees is pounced upon, called a man, a misogynist, an activist or a Reddit user. Utterly pointless and got better things to do thanks. Just happened upon this thread by accident and couldn't quite believe what I was reading. So pile on, insult blah blah but I'm not wasting any more time.

Ok

i would suggest it’s quite rude to criticise people’s views and not be prepared to explain your own. I don’t think I’ve ‘pounced’ on you

but if you’re not sure enough of what you believe to be able to explain it in writing then fair enough

Theeyeballsinthesky · 08/07/2025 15:22

another person with a feline name ending coming to scold us, do seem to be getting a lot of those lately

I’ve yet to see anyone explain what I have in common with (say) prominent transwoman Juno Dawson that we do not have in common with Kier Starmer or Keanu Reeves.

what makes me and Juno both women? Using the word ‘woman’ in the answer renders it null and void

if @SugarSoiree or our new friend @WiseAquaCat could provide an explanation it might help me understand why they’re quite so sure of themselves

This is the acid test, isn't it? The million-dollar question that never gets a straight answer.

Indeed. They are very 'scratchy' aren't they?

And generally resort to the same insults and complaints.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 08/07/2025 15:37

If I couldn’t explain properly what I believed or why I believed it, that would make me think twice. Not saying I’m Jean Paul Sartre or anything, but I like to think I have a bit of a think about things. Particularly if I’m going to be pretty rude to people on the internet who disagree with me

takes all sorts innit?

Waitwhat23 · 08/07/2025 15:38

I suppose it's because many of us find it difficult to understand why a woman would actively oppose women's rights and so assume that it must be a man because the alternative is too depressing.

And i suppose the Lib Fem dick pandering type feminists do find this forum offputting given that women, rather than men, are centred here. But then that's why the Feminist Chat board was created just for them! And of course, there's the various heavily curated platforms too.

DeanElderberry · 08/07/2025 15:38

Calling a male person a man is not an insult. Man is not a bad word.

If someone is being misogynist, calling that out is a factual observation, not an insult. If a person doesn't like being called misogynist they shouldn't demonstrate misogyny.

There are all sorts of activists, many of them admirable. Again, if it's what you choose to do, own it.

Reddit? - I have no idea.

If you had anything to say, you could have said it in the time it took to post your complaint.

And there we have it.

Questions to clarify positions on a discussion board is considered 'pouncing' as far as I can see from this interaction. No one 'pounced', posters asked questions.

It really is same old, same old. Censuring posts from posters not offering considered insights, that then claim to be the victims not able to express their opinion. From a poster who just wanted to drop by and tell everyone how shameful they are and not engage.

I would consider this type of action DARVO because it uses victimhood to silence discussion by hugely exaggerating any mild interaction as being extremely negative and hostile.

Helleofabore · 08/07/2025 15:43

It is a discussion board, people will disagree all the time.

The thing is though, if you are censuring and censoring other posters, why do you not expect to have this censuring and censoring discussed? Do posters who believe they are the morally righteous ones think that they should just come, make accusations and that it should be just accepted? Why?

DialSquare · 08/07/2025 15:48

I’ve asked this many times. What is it that you actually disagree with us about?
Women shouldn’t have single sex spaces? Children should be encourage to medicate for
life?
Women prisoners should share a cell with a rapist?
Women should be cheated against in sports?
etc. etc.

Funny that, say you're right. Expect to be believed then strop off.
Can you answer how a man loses his manhood by wearing a dress?

Gay people exist as male or female sex.
Vs.
Sex change is not real.

Datun · 08/07/2025 15:52

SugarSoiree · 08/07/2025 13:50

Quite. What I took from these threads when I started reading them a couple of years ago I'd that the GC posters here enjoy being patronising and belittling posters who don't agree with them because the only reason they could possibly disagree with their views is because they haven't done enough research or thought it all through enough. It's very self righteous.

Add in the clear pack behaviour displayed and when all else fails just declare they are obviously a man! and its just really off putting to a lot of people. A lot of women both on MN and other forums say they want nothing to do with this brand of feminism.

Can I ask you again whether or not you believe that someone like Rachel Dolezal is automatically racist for pretending to be black??

I think this is the third or fourth time I've asked. I completely understand why it's a difficult question, though

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2025 15:53

These little interventions are always so predictable.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 08/07/2025 15:54

It’s hard to see how they would convince anyone, including the person actually flipping well typing it out

DeanElderberry · 08/07/2025 15:56

People who are suffering from mental illness are not rational, and attempts to use reason are pretty futile - as anyone who has tried to encourage an anorexic back to (physical) health knows. Mental health services are underfunded, reaching for a prescription pad is quicker and easier than working with a person fixed in their delusion.

Datun · 08/07/2025 15:59

Yes, we're constantly targeted, precisely because we're so effective.

See the Supreme Court judgement, and Maya 'radicalised by Mumsnet' Forstarter's intervention.

Quick, someone get me the smelling salts, I've never been so shocked in all my life <faints>.

WarriorN · 08/07/2025 16:05

I’ve not followed this thread hugely but;

“brand of feminism”

Feminism centres the needs and rights of females, the clue is in the name.

It’s automatically male exclusionary. Even the ones called Doris.

ArabellaScott · 08/07/2025 16:12

I like the idea of pouncing. Sounds fun.

I'm not sure I'm still capable, though, tbh. It's the knees.

I'm going to practise.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 08/07/2025 16:15

It really is astonishing how common it is for:

A poster to post repeatedly how aghast they are at the nastiness of women's refusal to sugarcoat language to spare trans women's feelings, turning every post away from what is being said and why it's being said to how it's being said.

Another poster turn up about 12 pages in to say they agree

Mutual backslapping and agreement between the two

At least one of the pair flouncing with "you're all horrible and not worth talking to"

Yet through all this at no point does either poster deign to engage with any of the substance of Gender Critical points or questions. Not to agree, not to disagree, not even to acknowledge there's a link between men encroaching and women's anger.

It really is very odd.

I can see why an individual poster might feel it's a pile on if they hadn't seen it play out so often before, but from the point of view of a woman being told yet again it's not reasonable to say No to men for reasons that are never explained, I think we are a model of restraint.

It's not a very convincing argument, but okay.

It did occur to me that there are a number of reasons to believe I haven’t pounced on @WiseAquaCat that I could point out . But she didn’t seem like the kind of person who enjoys a joke so I decided not to bother!

Yes being gay was thought to be a mental illness so I suppose the same sort of people would have worn similar signs back then

Being gay was thought to be a mental illness, and that was wrong.

Believing aliens control your mother is thought to be a mental illness, and that is as far as I am aware generally considered to be right.

What's your point?

To be fair, I do smell. But of Liberty Adelphi Sun. It’s summery and wonderful
