Why are the people running our unions so out of touch with their members, the general public and material reality

They're afflicted with groupthink. Anyone capable of independent thought is ejected from the group.

Boston365 · 27/04/2025 21:16

Not in the least bit surprised! One of the women I’ve been arguing with on the other parenting website l, that sex isn’t a spectrum is a midwife who is married to a gynaecologist. Literally could not make this shit up!

They’re completely captured ideologues, impervious to logic or reason. She also posted the kids and puberty blockers suicide myth which i swiftly debunked with the Cass report, her reply was that the systematic review was transphobic and widely discredited. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Social media suggest Dr Vasili Crispi was behind the motion. Checking his X it wouldn’t be a huge shock if he/they was

It is unbelievable to think the BMA have done this, eyeballs.

Needspaceforlego · 27/04/2025 21:32

Hold on - is the Union that Dr Upton consulted with???

For any Scots who remembers, Ricky Fultons Supercop, wait a minute, your having a laugh, really? 🤣😂😆

You would think after the cass debacle they would have learned ti be more circumspect but apparently not

She might be, I haven’t looked into her beliefs. I just know we (GPs) needed a unified approach to dealing with the last govt and likely this one too which is why I joined after 15 years of being a doctor.

Megan1971 · 27/04/2025 21:48

Why is there Americanised spelling (I.e., recognize)? .. points to ChatGPT writing it.

Lentilweaver · 27/04/2025 21:49

Gosh. The medical establishment is way more captured than I thought.

SidewaysOtter · 27/04/2025 21:51

All this “taking stances” and recognising/condemning things is like a cross between a French Revolution committee and a 6th form debating society of particularly self-absorbed wankers.

EmmaJane2025 · 27/04/2025 21:57

Well I’ve never heard of the word ‘beclowning’ before but it’s instantly become my favourite word 😻

murasaki · 27/04/2025 22:36

Beclowning is up there with enshittening.

Ohsisterwhereartthou · 27/04/2025 22:45

Doctors sub Reddit is generally unimpressed with vote
https://www.reddit.com/r/doctorsUK/comments/1k97tti/britishmedicalassociationconferencecalls/
Although I note someone's comment that the top voted comment was deleted. Iirc it was reality based rather than hurty feelings.

Huckleberries · 27/04/2025 23:22

Not sure this is real

the X conference hashtag doesn't mention it

It seems to be real. One doctor in the Reddit thread said they voted in favour of the motion and a couple of others said they abstained.

FancyNewt · 28/04/2025 04:04

This just speaks to why we have sex based discrimination against women baked into healthcare.

FancyNewt · 28/04/2025 04:06

I'd love these doctors to explain how the many sex specific conditions apply if sex doesn't really exist .

SinnerBoy · 28/04/2025 04:22

Does BMA stand for Barking Mad Adolescents? The BMA Committee voted that the Cass Report was rubbish and transphobic, but it transpired that it comprised about 70 members and that the rank and file had been excluded.

MissAnthr0pe · 28/04/2025 04:30

I'm a BMA member and this most certainly does not represent my views!

A meeting of a handful of people cannot claim to represent thousands of doctors.

Yeah, mine does too, for £23 a month. Not as bad as these crazies though. I glaze over when (mostly white hetero men) union officials start talking about this. Whatever.

2021x · 28/04/2025 06:49

I am very surprised. I hope its fake, or they manage to convince us that its is fake.

Sex is never assigned at birth, it is established at conception. Even intersex.

2021x · 28/04/2025 06:58

rebmacesrevda · 27/04/2025 21:02

Aside from the stupidity of it, the thing that makes me think it's fake is the word "intersex". It's outdated terminology that I just don't think they would use.

My current understanding is that there are two different situations.

Intersex is when a person has both male and female characteristics. There is an intersex person on YT who went through 2 puberties where they first grew breasts and then went through a male puberty. There is a another example in the literature of a woman who had had 3 children via normal pregnancies and had a Y chromosome.

DSD is when the person is still male or female i.e. XX or XY but has an issue with the development of their genitalia. This could be the Imane Khalif/Caster Semenya where there penis/testicles where internal so were thought to be a girl, but then went through a male puberty, or even someone who has normal penis but the opening is on the side rather the tip.

puffyisgood · 28/04/2025 07:47

I'm not sure I really know what it means for a motion to be passed in these circumstances. might it be able to sneak through based on support from a few extremists and being ignored by the majority?
