Prominent transphobe found guilty of multiple counts of child sexual abuse across a 20 year period.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned at all - I tried to find a thread covering this verdict and got no returns.

A prominent transphobe, Nicola Murray, has been found guilty of repeated counts of child sexual abuse against four children across a 20 year period in West Lothian and Perthshire.

Bloody hell. Absolutely disgusting crimes when committed by anyone, but coming from a well known domestic abuse activist who of all people should have known better is particularly horrifying. I hope this doesn't end up harming Brodie's Trust too badly as an organisation and the important work that they do for survivors of domestic abuse - to discover your founder is responsible for such evil acts has got to be devastating.

From the vile behaviours described in the article, including the use of transphobic slurs against a child for daring to style their hair after their favourite pop star, she appears to have been completely deranged and consumed by her hatred of the differences exhibited by those poor children. Looks like she never succeeded in overcoming her hatred for trans people, which it explains why it spilled out into and marred her activism.

It must have taken immense courage for those young people to speak up about her abusive behaviour, but thankfully it seems this is one of the rare occasions where victims are believed and taken seriously when coming forward.

It's an interesting piece, but "transphobe"? Logic fail there, 2/10.

SpidersAreShitheads · 24/04/2025 04:11

I wasn't aware of this case. According to the article you linked, Murray sexually assaulted one child and showed explicit photos to another.

She also pushed a child down the stairs, punched, kicked and slapped children for more than 20 years. She tried to suffocate another child with a pillow. One of the survivors said they were treated like a dog. The children were so terrified of her that they wet themselves.

I mean, it's horrific. Absolutely sickening. It's really hard to read.

I don't know this woman, or her history. We know violent, aggressive women do exist - it's just that they're a tiny, tiny minority compared to men. Female sexual abusers are even less common. Of the very few cases seen, it seems to usually be their own children/stepchildren who are abused.

Pretty awful that a woman who set up such a worthwhile charity was secretly an abuser herself.

However, all of that aside....

The thing that you thought worthy of mention out of all those horrific acts of violence and abuse, was the fact she used a transphobic slur? You think THAT is the issue here? For fucking real?

FortyElephants · 24/04/2025 05:29

Of all the horrific things this woman has done, you think using an offensive word for transsexual on one occasion to bully a child is the most notable? Goodness.

Annoyedone · 24/04/2025 05:39

Of course @FortyElephants we all know words are the ultimate violence. The fact that is the act the OP finds most egregious is very telling…..

Igneococcus · 24/04/2025 06:22

Has the word "prominent" also be redefined?

CautiousLurker01 · 24/04/2025 06:54

The article posted states very clearly that it is about a Domestic abuse campaigner being found guilty of vile domestic abuse inflicted upon children - the title of this post is deliberately incendiary, inaccurate and intended to incite conflict by eliciting comments from GC posters - this is a phishing post as the point of it is NOT to discuss DV or the abuse of the poor children concerned but to manufacture a ‘transphobic [GC] women are abusers’ narrative’.

I’ve reported it.

TakingMyChancesWithTheRabbits · 24/04/2025 06:55

Yep, I've got no idea who that is either. If you say Nicola Murray I think of the character from The Thick of It.

SpidersAreShitheads · 24/04/2025 07:07

Honestly, I don't know what the fuck happened last night.

There was obviously a rallying cry somewhere because there's been some right weird anti-women shit posted here in the night. The worst post was deleted/hidden but it was literally batshit.

I feel as if I've been in some kind of fever dream 😂

NextRinny · 24/04/2025 07:08

I think OP is trying to say she's one of "us".

I've never heard of brodie's trust. Unlike the child mutilation center - mermaids.

mothers are not a hive mind and most likely we've never interacted with this woman.

There's little to indicate she was ever in any of our social (media) circles.

Now reflect around how you sit around the table with others who make horrible "jokes", realise they have questionable ethics and carry on as if nothing happened. You celebrated wpath.

We are not the same.

Agreed.

CanOfMangoTango · 24/04/2025 07:12

Absolutely horrific. Those poor children. Some of whom will be adults now and no doubt this abuse has affected them their whole lives.

Very pleased that such a monstrous person has been caught and convicted.

Shows how important effective safeguarding process is to keeping children safe.

Katkins17 · 24/04/2025 07:17

Let’s ignore all the horrific and inexcusable abuse this piece of scum committed against children over many many years … because we all know that the actual violence and the absolute worse offence here was taking the mick out of someone’s hair !!!
The trans hyperbole and victim mentality is rife in this post.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/04/2025 07:50

Sad to say there are countless prosecutions for child abuse that aren't covered on this board or on Mumsnet generally. Likely because there are so many that it's just not possible to keep track and comment on them all. Even though each one represents a failure by adults and society to keep children safe.

That's why safeguarding is everyone's business. No sacred castes. No group of adults who should be free from society's expectations, rule and conventions. No groups of children considered outside society's responsibility to safeguard them from harm.

Only commented to post the above principles about safeguarding children. I'm not going to engage with a poster excitedly picking out one aspect, from a grim list of details about the appalling abuse of children for their own niche reasons.

Myalternate · 24/04/2025 07:51

I didn’t want to read an article about the horrific abuse suffered by defenceless children. It makes me sad and angry 😢 I hope this person gets the sentence they deserve.

But how dare you, ButterflyHatched…😡 How fucking dare you, put such a twist on the trauma these children suffered, without any evidence to support your vile accusations.

…she appears to have been completely deranged and consumed by her hatred of the differences exhibited by those poor children. Looks like she never succeeded in overcoming her hatred for trans people, which it explains why it spilled out into and marred her activism…

Another one: "trans lynnwood city council member appointed with unanimous support has agreed to step down after it emerged that he ran a sex business and posted about desires to violently rape, impregnate and eat women and girls." https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-wa-trans-onlyfans-city-council-appointee-rescinds-candidacy-after-cannibal-fetish-controversy?utm_campaign=64470

drspouse · 24/04/2025 07:58

I was aware of this woman and her charity. Without making excuses, it sounds like she was also a victim of severe domestic abuse herself.

Helleofabore · 24/04/2025 08:00

It is a horrific case. Absolutely horrific.

But imagine if we simply plopped down all the safeguarding failures of the people you are trying to position her against. I think we would make short work of 40 pages.

Safeguarding failures due to artificially lowered boundaries from a group of people who cannot even recognise when consent is needed, let alone what is material reality and what is not.

FlakyCritic · 24/04/2025 08:02

And another: "An Indiana court has ruled that the state's Department of Corrections must arrange "gender affirming" surgery for a transgender inmate convicted of murdering a baby. Autumn Cordellioné strangled the infant, calling her a "little b*tch" to police."

Cheap trick.

alsoFanOfNaomi · 24/04/2025 08:05

She has been discussed on here before: to that extent, she has been identified here as gender critical. Unlike certain other groups I'm guessing we're all capable of condemning horrific criminal behaviour like what she has now been convicted of, even if it has come from someone who previously, like all of us, enjoyed a presumption of innocence.

HeyCooper · 24/04/2025 08:05

The article states … Murray was found guilty of three charges of assault, two sexual assaults, two of indecent communication, one indecent assault and two offences of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, all between December 2002 and August 2022. She was not convicted of transphobia as far as I’m aware. I hope the victims are ok, awful abuse but at least justice has been done.

FlakyCritic · 24/04/2025 08:06

And another one: raped a 3 month old baby! a newborn baby basically!!
