The Bluestocking Arms Women's Pub, where women make friends with Beetles, Androids, Cakes, Dragons, Hedgehogs and other women, where wit and wisdom flourish

Here at the Bluestocking there's a place for all women. A break from Reality, and many laughs and stories to share. Have your fill of Tunnocks bars and tea cakes, sing feminist anthems, drink as much beer or gin or hot chocolate as you desire. It won't make you fatter or drunken but oh, it's fun. Sit in the garden with our Lion resident or the Quokkas and Capybara. Express your opinions loudly in Pedantry Corner. Ask for whatever you fancy to be served by our obliging Gerbil staff. Come in, all women, welcome!

A lot of those women look related.

True “sisters” 😊

It does appear to be a family gathering! They also appear to have all shopped off the same page in the Empire Stores catalogue!

They do, don’t they? I think the AI is sneakily cloning them.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2025 22:42

Meanwhile, I’m having my deferred ‘Easter’ break in North Yorkshire, staying in the ridiculously pretty Hutton-le-Hole. It’s very quiet except for an owl, and in the morning it’ll be thrushes and blackbirds.
our days haven’t quite gone to plan but worked out well - this afternoon accidentally went to the National Birds of Prey centre, the flying display included an enormous owl (apparently really not that big just incredibly feathery) who was temporarily upstaged by a wild red kite who has learned he can get an easy meal by showing up during displays.

Swashbuckled · 28/04/2025 22:43

I think their thirst for knowledge might be wearing off.

I love the sound of owls; I usually hear them hooting when I’m walking the hound at night.

I’m mid terribly-busy-chapter. Have a physical/practical project to complete after work this week; have to travel to do it and I’m knackered. I won’t have time to do it to my satisfaction either, which bothers me a bit. But I’ll just have to do the best I can. Can’t wait til I’m free again.

Yes they do look very very similar.
I think this may be a landmark moment in the development of AI -
you asked it to produce an image of a pub full of women, so it generated the image of a couple of women and then went 'Fuck this for a game of soldiers, I've had it for today, I'll just cut and paste the ones I've done and then fuck off down the pub'.

Well that's what happens when you get machines to mimic humans..Grin

Swashbuckled · 28/04/2025 23:06

I gave it a try. Asked for a pub filled with just women and to make them all different. It seems we are wenches. We do seem to be very happy about our wenchdom though.

Feeling a bit sorry for the gerbils; they look like they don’t know what to do with themselves now that woman is tending the bar.

Swashbuckled · 28/04/2025 23:13

I tried to rectify it but AI isn’t playing. Here we have Little Bo Peep, and the gerbils muttering about demarcation.

I'm loving the gerbils having the ability to spell properly, it means they can truly say what they think now!

How are you doing that? Did you turn the AI off & on again?

That looks like the Bluestocking's sister pub in Bavaria "Der Blaustrumpf" with all the guests in Dirndls.

How does it cope with short-haired older women?

I'm a little disturbed by orderly educated gerbils. Having furry agents of chaos round the place was entertaining.

Could have done without a furry agent of chaos galumphing across the bedside table this morning and knocking the water glass onto the bed. At least he left the carafe where it was. Though now he's snuggled against me on the dry blanket I substituted for the old one and he's snoring. So sweet.

Magpiecomplex · 29/04/2025 07:15

@Igneococcus I think I'll stick with the Bluestocking, I don't think a dirndl is a terribly good look on me.

I think it looks quite fetching @Magpiecomplex it might be impractible for flying though.
I had a nice one in forgetmenot blue for one of my waitressing student jobs, it's probably still in my mum's attic but I'd need to drop a stone or two to fit into it now. I can lift eight full Steins, or I could, I've not done it for about 30 years.

It looks as if someone just told an excellent joke based on innuendo, and the gerbils are baffled, and irritated because they don't get it.

ETA, I need to learn how to play on the AI. I'm defo missing out on the fun.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/04/2025 08:43

Edith, I don't do AI either...i tried, but no. I just find pictures of real things!

DeanElderberry · 29/04/2025 09:28

Someone here gave me the link to this

https://www.bing.com/images/create

which does the job for me. The image of Joxer Oscar upthread is NOT artificially generated.

I think the gerbils are confronting poor Gráinne and asking her 'What were you thinking when you invented that AI thing! Now look what's happened, our jobs have been taken over by AI-generated wenches!'

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/04/2025 11:06

That's a very Chalet School picture, @Magpiecomplex.

I failed utterly at my early night last night - we ended up staying up watching TV, and then I was awake again, and couldn't fall asleep easily. But I got a bit of a lie in this morning, so I'm feeling a bit more human.

Today's job is writing next week's menu, and doing the Sainsbury's shop. I am wondering if it would be very foolish to put in a couple of salad meals, as the weather is supposed to be OK for the next wee while - or will it ensure that the temperature plummets and the heavens open.

DeanElderberry · 29/04/2025 11:16

Having very foolishly planted out 24 lettuces a couple of weeks ago I'm trying to calculate the exact moment to start harvesting them to ensure maximum delicious salad intake and minimum food waste.

I must plant some radish seeds.

I also decided to take a risk and planted out my 2 courgettes and 4 tomatoes. The greenhouse is full of brambles and, I suspect, a blackbird nest, so it isn't available this season. That would seem to be setting myself up for hard frost in about a week.

Why are typos invisible until I post them?

I'm jumping up and down chanting 'Sa-LAD! Sa-LAD!', can't get enough of them whatever the weather😃

Do you eat Chinese Leaf, Woley? I think it is the salad equivalent of a Swiss army knife - the top pale green bits are leafy, the chunky base is white and crunchy, so it's two salad ingredients in one.
The base can also be used for hors d'oeuvres and amuses-bouche - a crunchy, refreshing, veggie alternative to pastry or crackers. Mmmmmm....

And it keeps fresh for ages in the fridge. What's not to love?
[I'm expecting 'incoming' about greens any minute now from Boily😏]

And before you as, no I am NOT CEO of the Chinese Leaf Promotion Board!

It's lovely to have somebody to talk to about salads, Woley, I sometimes feel quite marginalised in my love for the green crunchy stuff😂

D'you think they're easy to grow, Deano? I could become self-sufficient...
