Here at the Bluestocking there's a place for all women. A break from Reality, and many laughs and stories to share. Have your fill of Tunnocks bars and tea cakes, sing feminist anthems, drink as much beer or gin or hot chocolate as you desire. It won't make you fatter or drunken but oh, it's fun. Sit in the garden with our Lion resident or the Quokkas and Capybara. Express your opinions loudly in Pedantry Corner. Ask for whatever you fancy to be served by our obliging Gerbil staff. Come in, all women, welcome!

The top of my microwave is where I keep things I don't want to throw away and haven't found storage for yet. Currently one large kilner jar (empty), one smaller (baked eggshells), four glass containers that held m&s chocolate dessert (surely they'll be useful for something, and a felt flower one of the sprogs made years ago. The microwave sits on top of the oven and wanders around a bit as the door requires a bit of a shove to close it. In fact the whole shelf over the oven is a bit of a place where things are put. Waitrose recipe cards, a spare clothesline, a box for collecting batteries for recycling, the handles for the oven shelf that I've never used but can't throw out, all sorts of rubbish.

Thanks @lcakethereforeIam

That is very inspiring.

lcakethereforeIam · 22/04/2025 20:30

Actually I'm quite inspired by your picture. I just need to source a human skull 💀

AsWithGlad · 22/04/2025 20:46

I did Music and Movement in the infants (broadcast on the radio), and country dancing at secondary school when it was too wet to go outside for Games. All in the school hall.

At primary school at around this time of year we also did Maypole dancing. In retrospect it was surprisingly easy even for infants to get a beautiful pattern of ribbons on the pole just by going under and then over the ribbon of the person ahead of you. How did the ribbons stay flat on the pole? I have no idea.

This looks fun. I wonder how the gerbils would feel about it. Can they galumph and hold a ribbon at the same time?

Agreed. If there isn't already an Etsy seller offering Davy Jones Locker style microwaves, there should be!

It looks difficult to open the door, though.

Perhaps it’s like a lucky dip which you can only play once. You don’t know what treasure is sealed up inside until you open it.

Swashbuckled · 22/04/2025 21:06

Well, it seems the microwave is missing. It should have been here about five hours ago. I’m not sure it will come today now…

Hopefully it is safe with the driver, or being served tea by gerbils somewhere and just having a little adventure.

I'd offer to check next door's doorstep for you Swashy, as that's where our deliveries often end up, except I've literally just checked it for the delivery I was expecting, and there's definitely no microwave there.

Unless the real opening is a lever hidden in the eye sockets of the skull. Or a secret password whispered into its ear. Much easier when your hands are full.

Have you checked with the gerbils?

Oh, thanks for doing that @Magpiecomplex. Keep your eyes on your neighbour’s doorstep and I’ll do the same at this end. Between us, we should have it covered.

I knew the gerbils might have had a hand in this!

Swashbuckled · 22/04/2025 21:12

Is the big guy like Gerbil God?

DeanElderberry · 22/04/2025 21:16

Music and Movement was nice, a bit pointless, but non-violent and didn't require you to know which side was your right or your left, or any of your times tables, or anything complicated and difficult like that. Just waving your arms around being a tree. Lovely. I could do that now!

FuzzyPuffling · 22/04/2025 21:19

I might need an AI person to do a pic of the Bluestockingers doing Music and Movement. I wonder if I can wave my wings convincingly?

Magpiecomplex · 22/04/2025 21:19

And what more does one need from physical education for small children than "nice, a bit pointless, but non-violent"?

You seem to have morphed into a second magpie, I'm afraid.

DeanElderberry · 22/04/2025 21:23

Truly, non-violent was a big plus.

Swashbuckled · 22/04/2025 21:26

Well, AI made us cats. And made all of us naked except one. Not sure who was the lucky Blue Stockinger allowed to keep her clothes on….🤔

I had to have words with Gemini. It gave me a male lion and then denied it!

Being forced to do country dancing in the hall in vest and knickers with the boys in vest and pants.

Aged 9! It was awful.

😱this sounds so wrong on so many levels!😱

AsWithGlad · 22/04/2025 21:36

I can’t remember what we wore for PE in primary school, but vest and navy blue knickers sounds familiar. I wonder what the boys wore? We certainly didn’t have PE kit in those days, or school uniform.

We had a very big school field for Games lessons. There were fairly busy roads on two sides of it so very visible to the public.

Who's the extra green lion who has nicked Swashy's cutlasses?

FuzzyPuffling · 22/04/2025 21:38

The cat with clothes on is @EdithStourton.

How do I know? The trousers are too short!
