I just heard this mentioned, should be interesting

CriticalCondition · 14/04/2025 10:26

From the trailer it sounds like she will be talking about the disappearance of the L in the rest of the alphabet soup. I hope we hear some straight talking about these new fangled 'lesbians' with penises. Nuala McGovern is a 'be kind' type...

Lolapusht · 14/04/2025 10:30

WHAT?! Travelling today so will pop back in 7 hours to check back 😀

nauticant · 14/04/2025 10:43

Well, Julie did go there, and Nuala didn't sound very happy.

FlowchartRequired · 14/04/2025 10:45

Well done Julie!

nauticant · 14/04/2025 10:45

Also Nuala wasn't pleased with Julie characterising "sex work" as abusive.

Sausagenbacon · 14/04/2025 10:47

Tbf I'm surprised WH had JB on.

CriticalCondition · 14/04/2025 10:48

Yup. Nuala minimised every comment by JB on gender identity as anecdotal or controversial or offensive. Hmm

WinterTrees · 14/04/2025 10:48

Nuala ending by questioning JB's assertion that prostitution is exploitation not 'sex work' and implying that's some weird extremist position, distasteful to the right-thinking listeners of WOMAN'S Hour.

It seems she might have been invited on so Nuala could minimise and misrepresent her views. Nothing to see here - don't bother buying this flimsy, anecdote-based book.

Ramblingnamechanger · 14/04/2025 10:50

Good job Julie! Loved that she went back to compulsory heterosexuality . Pity it was Nuala doing the “ interviewing” ..she always has to say well we haven’t got any gay men, trans people “sex workers” to argue their case. We have had plenty of them over the last few years and this was a refreshing change.

FarriersGirl · 14/04/2025 10:54

I am going to listen later. I normally avoid WH because of presenters like Nuala who are just infuriating😡

nauticant · 14/04/2025 10:59

Hooray, Nuala is reassured to be reading out emails from queer women who don't like the words "lesbian" and see themselves LGBTQI+ people.

Does she really think we can't see her bias?

Tusktusk · 14/04/2025 11:09

Refreshing. JB certainly did not disappoint.

So glad she's managed to centre the right sort of women who at all times revolve around and centre men, and don't want anything nasty like identities or spaces or language of their own.

Gosh where would it all end?

I gave up on Dick Pandering Hour years ago.

wantmorenow · 14/04/2025 11:32

Trying to listen now on bbc sounds b ut episode not yet there. Anyone know when i can listen to it please?

nauticant · 14/04/2025 11:42

Radio 4 programmes can often take 1 to 3 hours before they're available to stream/download.

When privileged media types wang on like this about prostitution, I always want to yell at the radio/TV "OK, you go and do it for a few nights then". Well done Julie!

And woman's hour always seems to take longer!!

Especially when it features someone who says something that might give BBC Pride a fit of the vapours. So annoying! I want to hear Julie telling it like it is…

Madcats · 14/04/2025 12:18

Still no sign of Womens Hour on Sounds (are they editing out the hurty bits)?

Annoyingly I did look to see what was on this morning and decided to listen to an audiobook instead.

I bet they don't bother to cover the Supreme Court hearing, having done a "transphobic women" slot already this week.

Shortshriftandlethal · 14/04/2025 12:42

Nuala is always so obviously hostile to anything or anyone that goes against progressive narratives. She comes across as very defended and not open in the slightest. She displayed no warmth or compassion for anything Julie had to say.
