JB should be hosting WH, tbh.

Workisntworking · 14/04/2025 22:46

Nuala really does seem to be there to push the trans/queen debate and just comes across as a bit thick.

I too stopped listening after Jenni Murray left, came back for Emma Barnett and now just dip in for specific segments like this - but I'm really just listening to the guest rather than Nuala or Anita.

TheaBrandt1 · 15/04/2025 06:11

Jenni and Emma were great. Forthright women’s women. Nuala gives the impression she thinks she is slightly above all the issues. She also is a massive “two sides to every story” handmaiden.

If I had my way Julie Bindell would replace her.

Nuala ending by questioning JB's assertion that prostitution is exploitation not 'sex work' and implying that's some weird extremist position, distasteful to the right-thinking listeners of WOMAN'S Hour.

JFC Nuala. Get a grip love!

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 15/04/2025 06:27

God I miss Emma.

i’d start listening again

A shame Nuala has single handedly ruined Woman’s Hour.

Me too, I so adore Julie Bindel. What an incredible programme WH would be with her as a host.

TheaBrandt1 · 15/04/2025 07:58

Was at a book festival talk older very well heeled audience. One speaker was a liberal feminist be kind Nuala type the other a short haired young radical feminist lesbian. The audience LOVED the latter and not the former. I think WH are being too cautious.

There’s probably a wide demographic/ideological gap between their staff and their listeners

ItsCoolForCats · 15/04/2025 09:46

I've just caught up with it. It was so tiresome the way Nuala had to caveat everything Julie had to say with "some people might find this view offensive" or "you don't speak for all feminists" etc etc.

I'm sure Nuala thinks she is doing this in the interests of BBC balance, but it was overkill, and they are obviously wary of upsetting the most marginalised people ever, such as straight non-binary people 🙄 I doubt she would have taken the same approach if someone was espousing the opposite view.

That's possibly because older women have been around the block a few times. There are a couple of women in my book group who are very well-heeled and quite left-wing, both of whom I thought would be on the Be Kind Bandwagon - especially the younger one. How wrong I was... The older one has given it some serious thought (with me dropping in comments); the younger one is raging.

Can you imagine WH with JB at the helm. It would be utterly awesome and would rattle a lot of cages.

Oh I don't know, I think we need to give Anita Rani a lot of credit for steering the good ship WH off the course of serious women-centred discussion set by Emma Barnett. Shout out to Anita 'disgusted by the levels of transphobia here' Rani!

maltravers · 15/04/2025 11:17

I don’t mind Nuala too much, although it seems I’m alone in this! I can’t bear Anita Rani’s simpering (so undignified), or her trans maiden ways (how about putting women first you fool?).

Ramblingnamechanger · 16/04/2025 00:03

To be fair it went right off the rails with the Grace Lavery “ interview.

TheaBrandt1 · 16/04/2025 03:36

Oh agree Winter. Rani is a a close second with her simpering. Such a shame and missed opportunity. I cherry pick the odd piece of interest but can’t listen to an episode all the way through as those two are just too enraging.

BuntyBeaufort · 14/04/2025 12:45

All credit to JB for keeping so cool and measured in the face of such bias. NM needs a swift dose of reality and an injection of intelligence.
I’ve listened to WH for more decades than I care to remember but have all but given up on it since Emma B left and took with her any common sense, clarity, fluency and critical thinking.

Exactly right. Anita Rani is even worse than Nuala, I don't even think she understands what she's saying half the time, let alone what her interviewee is saying. Standards are woefully low now.

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 24/05/2025 06:53

CriticalCondition · 14/04/2025 10:48

Yup. Nuala minimised every comment by JB on gender identity as anecdotal or controversial or offensive. Hmm

🙄🙄🙄
