All credit to JB for keeping so cool and measured in the face of such bias. NM needs a swift dose of reality and an injection of intelligence.
I’ve listened to WH for more decades than I care to remember but have all but given up on it since Emma B left and took with her any common sense, clarity, fluency and critical thinking.

Yes, she treats Julie as an inherently hostile actor.......and yet this is supposed to be Woman's Hour, when women's issues are put front and centre. Honest to god, I just don't get the mentality of these supposedly educated women when they Kow Tow like this to bullshit. Julie did well to remain polite, engaged, and reasonable.

Gosh it was infuriating though. Well done to JB for not just shouting "fuck off you stupid twat"...

I did do a face when McGovern announced it early on in the show!

I thought it was odd how uncomfortable she sounded at Julie’s answers, even though she was asking questions that she must have known would elicit those responses! She brought up the alphabet soup group issue (loved Julie’s haircut reply) and so why… well, I wonder if we’ll ever know?

Did she get told she had to have Julie on and just got on with it as best she could? Was it actually her suggestion and, as someone ⬆️ has said, she thought she’d be able to dismiss the whole idea and make Julie look bad? Or is she actually trying to make sense of the cognitive dissonance that must be howling through her head right now?

I’ve heard it now and I thought JB spoke well and that NM let her speak. There were a few “ some people would disagree” moments but overall I thought it was pretty good. I didn’t stay for the selection of emails though.

I’d imagine so. Women who identify as lesbian are mean old bigots. Men who identify as lesbians are stunning and brave. They wouldn’t miss that to be mere alphabet soup - it’s a missed opportunity to be validated

As for the 'straight people with interesting hair' comment, I know of a couple where 'he' is a transman and 'she' is a transwoman. Basically a straight couple who like pushing sartorial boundaries and calling themselves 'queer' while playing with blue hair dye. What this had to do with gay people (many of whom loathe the word queer) I have no idea.

McGovern is infuriating. Speaks with a light amused tone about everything, as if she's introducing knitting patterns or somesuch and she personally is above such trivialities.

I mostly stopped listening to WH when Jenni Murray left, briefly returned when Emma Barnett and left again with her departure. I did catch Julie this morning (accidentally), McGovern was, again, infuriating.
