'Manivannan starts to talk about rape in a wider discussion about rehabilitation, saying: "I think our distaste towards rape is towards rape.

"It's towards the idea of and the act of rape, not towards the myth of this monster rapist as we're born to thinking of it that way. He says he is not seeking to "lighten" the crime but when the interviewer suggests rape is "not always a scary act" and there are a "range of things that are also rape," he responds: "Yeah, it's a spectrum. None of which is any worse or less but it is a spectrum of things that constitute that one homogenised word, rape."'

What the actual fuck does he actually mean?

'Manivannan said his comments had "been clearly misrepresented and taken out of context from a much longer interview". He added: "As a survivor of sexual violence, who has spoken openly about my recovery, I am clear that we need to focus on reducing the likelihood of perpetrators of rape reoffending."

He said his comment about "demonisation" was that "not all rapists fit a stereotype, and that all kinds of men can and do commit it". He also defended his use of the word "spectrum", arguing he was "making the point that laws often take a narrow definition of what rape and sexual violence is, which often allows it to continue without consequence, adding: "A full viewing of the interview clarifies this.

"In a country where rape has the lowest conviction rates of any crime, and reoffending continues, this is an urgent and important conversation we need to have in Scotland. Any suggestion that my statements minimise or excuse rape or sexual assault are deeply false and misleading."'

Other crimes include sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault, sexual coercion.

We have a fairly complex and nuanced law regarding rape and other forms of sexual assault; it's just a shame that in so many cases, the men convicted of the crimes are let off with 'community service' etc.

And if the supercilious wee scrote doesn't understand why he has mortally offended scottish women with his fucking musings about rape, I suggest he finds another way to access a wage of c 80k per annum.

He can, quite frankly, f**k right off with this kind of attitude to rape. Imagine if someone in the Tories said that? Would Ross Greer be sat on his hands not yet commenting? I think not. A “groundswell” of anger has developed within the Scottish Greens over remarks made by MSP Q Manivannan describing rape as existing on a “spectrum” and referring to the “demonisation of rape”, The Herald understands.
The paper also understands a meeting has been confirmed with the Scottish Greens MSP and Rape Crisis Scotland following their remarks. However, a meeting has not yet been established with the Scottish Rape Crisis Alliance (SRCA).

Apparently it was Sharon Cowan, a transactivist who Sarah Brindley (head of Rape Crisis Scotland) brought into a meeting with rape victims who wanted single sex rape counselling, to lecture them on their wrong think.

"When they arrived at the meeting, the survivors found another woman present, in addition to Sandy Brindley. This woman wasn't introduced, so the survivors assumed she must be another woman who'd experienced rape or sexual assault."
Ms Rowling revealed that the person in question was Sharon Cowan, an academic who self-proclaims to be a trans activist. The author went on to claim that Ms Cowan "spoke up during the meeting to berate and criticise women who want same-sex medical care. What McKenna misses there is the class aspect of the Greens, including the Scottish Greens.

I think they have arrived at 'far right' and 'millionaire' as their folk demons because of collective middle class guilt and a desire to divert attention from their privilege. 'Far right' is often used to mean 'working class', in the parlance of the Greens. It's impossible to miss the snobbery that underlies so much of their politics, once you notice it.

I do like how the Express plays fast and loose with the pronouns, though.
