Scottish Greens being sexist again

With Sparkles no longer a member other male Scottish Greens have had to step up to continue their terrible reputation. They are doing their bit.

Scottish Greens council candidate claimed JK Rowling was a Holocaust denier and said trans rapist Isla Bryson was a woman
Exclusive: Eryn Browning has been chosen by the Scottish Greens to contest a by-election in Clydebank Waterfront but offensive historic posts have resurfaced.

There is hope the Scottish Greens might plunge into civil war after their conference. Patrick Harvie is standing down as leader but Slater is standing again and there is opposition over her elitist behaviour.

Wood burners are harmful to the health of both owners and neighbours, in villages, towns and cities. Try driving through any Scottish village on a winter evening with your car window open and you'll be breathing in smoke. They cause a long list of very serious health problems. And if people have them as "back-ups" they will use them even when a back-up isn't needed. There's plenty of strong research on this, and it's recognised as a problem internationally. In the UK, wood burners cause more small particulate emissions than all of road transport. Those small emissions are the most dangerous kind.
Find someone who denies this and you've found yourself someone who has spent money on a wood burner, loves sitting in front of their wood burner and has maybe exposed their children to it - they're in denial.

And properties with no neighbours anywhere near? Testing levels in a real house and levels outside makes sense. I note that currently within a property a CO monitor is mandatory but not a particle sensor. I have stayed in a house where solid fuel is the only realistic heating option. The blanket ban is authoritarian.

Nobody drives through Scotland on a winters night with their window open (or atleast no sane person does)
Large sections of Scotland either have no access to mains gas or lose all power for weeks at a time everytime there's a bad storm so wood burners or coal fires are all they have to heat their homes, which is why the ban on gas boilers and wood burning stoves was scrapped, not dieing from hypothermia is more important than smoke free air

I stay regularly with friends on the Isle of Lewis. If they had to stop burning peat, which I'm pretty sure is horrific for particulate matter and all manner of phenols, not just in winter but a fairly large chunk of the rest of the year too, I'd be chatting to a couple of woman-shaped icicles the next time I went up. Traditional and romantic though, innit, from the point of view of Holyrood. Just absolutely bloody necessary if you live up there.

ArabellaScott · 20/05/2026 17:24

As ever, urban people have little idea what rural life is like.

TWETMIRF · 20/05/2026 18:28

Yep. Nothing will stop me using my fire, especially with oil prices as they are. Just wish I could still buy proper coal as this smokeless stuff is rubbish.

The Greens care far more that I use correct sex pronouns for trans people than that I have an open fire in my house.

Absolutely agree. But I really posted to say that I've noticed your username/acronym at intervals over the last few years and, well ok, maybe I wasn't trying that hard, but I could never work it out. Then a week or so ago it burst upon me like Saul on the road to Damascus. Feeling very, very stupid now...!

Quelle surprise.

I saw that story today too, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g - it comes as no surprise that the Greens are bending over backwards for MANnivannen, but an actual, real woman was discouraged from continuing with her candidacy.

They just love shooting themselves in the foot, don’t they!

Ha ha. Just feels like a more accurate version. For those that haven't got it transwoman excluding transman including rad fem. I'm not a terf, I'm a twetmirf.

I'm a bit embarrassed that I've only just worked that out. I pride myself on understanding unfamiliar acronyms!

I bank my wood burner down overnight with anthracite substitute. Stoveheat Premium, its usually still glowing when I get up.

Of course they know what a real woman is. The Greens are deplorable. I hope she rescinds her membership to the Greens. Or, better still, sets up an actual Green party that A. Knows what a woman is and B. Is actually about the environment.
