Scottish Greens being sexist again

With Sparkles no longer a member other male Scottish Greens have had to step up to continue their terrible reputation. They are doing their bit.

Scottish Greens council candidate claimed JK Rowling was a Holocaust denier and said trans rapist Isla Bryson was a woman
Exclusive: Eryn Browning has been chosen by the Scottish Greens to contest a by-election in Clydebank Waterfront but offensive historic posts have resurfaced.

There is hope the Scottish Greens might plunge into civil war after their conference. Patrick Harvie is standing down as leader but Slater is standing again and there is opposition over her elitist behaviour.

I think the referendum split the country pretty much, the yeses were not a happy bunch bit like the Brexit no voters. So politics is off the agenda imv.
I find people still go on about Maggie T and the poll tax but somehow can forgive the SNPs ongoing poor performance. So what can you discuss?

I mean bear in mind the SNP were known as the Tartan Tories not all that long ago. Parts of Scotland are traditionally Labour, but the suggestion that the coutnry as a whole is naturally leftwing is ... well, it's horseshit.

Fergus Ewing has been around a long time, and I would hazard a guess he knows all about the non-trendy views of his voters in Inverness and Nairn. I remember when his mum was in the European Parliament, and the teuchters who elected her would not have been surprised at her very effective partnership with Ian Paisley. Hands across the Sheugh!

Its Polanski, but in Scotland, in Scottish issues.

'The leader of the Green Party in England and Wales has called for Donald Trump to be "kicked out" out of his Scottish golf courses and for them to be "brought into community ownership."
Zack Polanski made the comments on a visit to Glasgow as he supported his Scottish Green colleagues ahead of the Holyrood election.
The leader was heavily critical of the US President, saying he had "started illegal and unpopular wars".
Polanski told reporters his comments were a "personal opinion" and it was not for him to "tell Scotland what to do".
Trump International Scotland has this afternoon responded to Polanski's remarks.
Sarah Malone, executive vice president, said: "The comments in relation to our golf courses in Scotland are frankly ludicrous and ignorant and made by a man who is an imbecile.”'

ArabellaScott · 25/04/2026 13:17

'Speaking during a press conference, Polanski said: "It's not for me to tell Scotland what to do either but I'd really like to see Donald Trump kicked out of his golf courses.

"I don't think you should be able to start illegal and unpopular wars and still have golf courses. I'd love to see those golf courses brought into community ownership."'

Another suggestion Polanski thinks people with different views should be punished or depersoned. I think what worries me is not that he has these views, its that he is a product of a school of thought that is gaining ground. Progressive authoritarianism.

NasturtiumsAreUnderrated · 25/04/2026 18:22

He's dreadful. What pains me is that it's all so trite and facile. I also dislike the disingenuousness of disclaiming any desire to interfere or dictate ("it's not for me to say"), then expounding in some detail how he thinks Scotland should handle the US president and his Scottish assets.

ArabellaScott · 25/04/2026 18:30

Its all othering to encourage group bonding. I'm no fan of Trump, but the time to campaign on his golf courses was about 20 years ago.

NasturtiumsAreUnderrated · 25/04/2026 18:44

It also niggles that he doesn't seem bothered by the ecological problems associated with golf courses, only the ownership. I've stopped expecting him to make a Green point, but it still saddens and frustrates me that he's wasting the audience he's gained.

I'm just feeling extra politically gloomy today, having discovered an embedded TRA. I fear he may not be an isolated case.

ArabellaScott · 25/04/2026 21:05

Yes. The problems with Trump's golf course were that he bulldozed the amazing sand dune system at Balmedie, an SSSI, destroyed the eco system, harassed local people, and then failed to fulfil the promises re job creation.

That was entirely the fault of Alex Salmond, fwiw, who overrode the planning refusal.

SionnachRuadh · 25/04/2026 22:29

Greens seem to have a fixation on golf at the moment. They're kicking around this idea of concreting over all the golf courses in Greater London. There's some vague talk about building houses, but I don't really believe that, because Green councillors seem pathologically opposed to building anything. I think it's more about sticking two fingers up to the kind of people who they imagine play golf.

I'm not even a golfer, but it seems very silly to me.

ArabellaScott · 27/04/2026 11:03

Concreting over greenspace? Really?!

There's all sorts of mad stuff in GPEW policy. They seem to have a particular hate boner for golfers.

I suppose it's their equivalent of urban Labour members 30 years ago getting very irate about fox hunting, as if fox hunting was a huge social issue in Hackney or Lambeth.

It's importing US flash points again.

Trump likes golf courses

In the US, the environmental cost of keeping golf courses green in states like California and Las Vegas (water consumption, biodiversity, fertiliser and pesticides) is a genuine issue

So, golf becomes one of the US left baddies. And then social media cross pollination inserts US talking points into UK politics, and golf intersects well with class divisions here.

'Hate boner' made me laugh snort juice over myself.

I’d like to agree with Sarah Malone when she says the comments are made by a man who is an imbecile but what is actually worrying about Polanski andthe Green Party and others is what @ArabellaScott perfectly labelled as Progressive authoritarianism.

If this party, with its current policies and leadership, ever got into power, we’d certainly know what authoritarianism felt like as we’d rapidly see laws being enacted along right and wrong think lines. These are not a people who believe in free speech or the right for women to have spaces free from men.

Oh yes. I think there is no-one that the Scottish Greens won't accept as a candidate (though some later get thrown out). He's way down the list https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/elections/sp.r.edinburgh-and-lothians-east.2026-05-07/party:130/ but strangely not at the bottom.

Well, the Greens managed to get two trans people elected to parliament. Surprisingly, they're both blokes.

One a vile misogynist looking at his tweets and the other doesn’t even have a right to work in Scotland. 🤔

Are the Scottish greens going to form part of the expected SNP ruling coalition (until they split as with Hamza Yusuf)?
