The Bluestocking - where women are women, and small furry animals are gerbils, quokkas, capybaras, or a red panda called Rosy

Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

Thank you @MarieDeGournay.

Real life insists on being complicated and a bit shit in parts - hence the hankering for the 'Stocking. Trying to keep a sense of humour and a weather eye out for cute rodents and birds on the interwebs.

Just before the latest misfortune my surviving brother bought me a small beanie capybara, which was nice.

Magpiecomplex · 03/04/2025 12:31

Actually now I think of it he often commented on how strange it is [or as he was very religious, 'what a great gift from God'] that things as completely functional as leaves being green or trees branching or the sky being blue are perceived by the human brain as 'beautiful' when in fact they are just doing their job..

@MarieDeGournay I once totally baffled a Jehovah's Witness who was trying to persuade me that trees were evidence for the existence of God by simply asking "Why?"
His best answer boiled down to "They just are, ok?"

FuzzyPuffling · 03/04/2025 12:41

I am a Christian, a feminist and worked in science.
I feel no need to ask why the sky is blue, I just rejoice in it!

Magpiecomplex · 03/04/2025 12:55

That's fair enough, Fuzzy, but I was surprised he'd apparently never been asked this before. He was of the door-knocking variety so surely someone other than me must have actually talked to him?

If anything could persuade me of the existence of god(s) it would be rainbows. They are so gratuitously pretty, I could readily be convinced that they were designed that way.

He probably only ever hears " no thanks" and the sound of a shutting door.

True. I was revising for exams at the time, so welcomed any distraction!

The nice thing is that you know what causes rainbows, Magpie, but you still think they are magic .
Like my da used to say, it's wonderful that we can explain something scientifically and still find it beautiful.

So
Twinkle twinkle little star
I don't wonder what you are -
You're the cooling down of gasses
Into great big solid masses

doesn't make the night sky any less enthrallingSmile

Mind you, the biblical account of the creation of the rainbow isn’t exactly great PR for god.
I think I prefer the physics for rainbows and the complementary beauty of soap bubbles and of course the magpie’s wing.

Hello Boily!

I said HELLO BOILY!!
oh it's no use, I'll wait till she's finished eating her portion of delicious-looking pie...
OK I can wait till after she's had seconds.
Thirds.

Xavier Musketeers Hello GIF by Xavier University

I have limited myself to just the one piece.

For now.

Don't hang around Boily, that's one of my favourites!

Dh despairs over the way I use the PC. Apparently the way I save documents etc is so unutterably wrong that I am Lady Wrong of Wrongshire, and on the Olympic Wronging Team. I just click on save, choose the location I want the document saved, and save it. I don't know why this is wrong - but apparently it doesn't save to the One Drive, and that is Wrong.

I am clearly a dinosaur too. And happy with it - though I would like to have a go at creating the AI images that other Bluestockingers do so well - I just don't know where to start. I need an AI image of a very baffled, fat woman. 😂😂😂

Go to bing.com & choose Images & Create. Might have to log in/register. Then just type in what you want to see in the image & possibly a style e.g. surrealism or paper collage. It gives you 15 goes but you can carry on after that.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 03/04/2025 16:33

MN seems to be holding up my images - maybe because you requested a fat woman & she was quite norkagely blessed.

Mumsnet might eventually let you see 'me' as imagined by bing! I like the way it takes 40 years and many kilos off.

MarieDeGournay · 03/04/2025 16:52

Very nice, Deano!
I like the portmanteau animal on the left, that looks a bit like a cat, and bit like a rodent, and has legs like a dachs...Smile

From ChatGPT.

It mow has better image rendering so the days of "I craft space, me" may be on their way out.

More like home.

The window is a bit OTT, but the guileless innocent expression on the faces of the poor starving oppressed cats is just about right.

No mumsnet, don't be silly, how can that be a sensitive image?

I CBA to make an account for bing but I’ve already got one for ChatGPT. A bit cutesy but ok

EdithStourton · 03/04/2025 17:54

Loving the fat dinosaur, and Errol talking to Colin.

I had an Incident with my online banking today. It seems to have taken a violent dislike to the card that I was able to use quite happily this morning to buy ££££ of dog food, so much dog food that I had to insert it into the machine. So that will be an hour on hold tomorrow...

Bing doesn't like me. It thinks I'm a robot because I can't match its stupid images.
