The Bluestocking - where women are women, and small furry animals are gerbils, quokkas, capybaras, or a red panda called Rosy

Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

My DH does no DIY. He doesn't know the meaning if the word, or indeed, the names if most of the tools. I suppose I could be grateful.that the tools are therefore always where I put them.

Magpiecomplex · 15/04/2025 17:51

My DH not only uses The Good Scissors for unapproved tasks, he also randomly "borrows", and knackers, the Good Tweezers. I've taken to leaving the broken tweezers where he knows they live, and hiding their replacements elsewhere. Most of the tools in the house are mine, but none of them were very expensive so I allow him to borrow them on the odd occasion it's not me doing the DIY. The fabric scissors live separately and no one who values his life would touch them except under direct orders from me.

DeanElderberry · 15/04/2025 17:54

This version actually manages to get 'Edith' right. Some of the tools are a bit odd.

Hmmm yes... that flared one with a hole in it.. ??
But the gerbils have now occupied the space the better to protect the matériel, and they look even more of a match for Edith's DHSmile

I've had an email to say the decision will be sent out tomorrow after lunch. I still think it's a no, but I know I couldn't have done any better.

Will update when I know.

Drinking a whole bottle of chardonnay for myself tonight. Yes on a Tuesday.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/04/2025 19:06

@MarieDeGournay - I once caught dh using my good dressmaking scissors to cut up bicycle inner tubes. I would have stabbed him with them - but they were my good scissors.

I made him buy me a new pair, and these are very carefully hidden. I have seen pictures of good dressmaking scissors with the handles padlocked together - that seems entirely proportionate to me.

@MyrtleLion - I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you tomorrow - hopefully you are being pessimistic, and the answer will be a resounding yes.

So The Good Scissors is still a Thing - still a very very serious Things, I see😂

Tomorrow is the day of the FWS decision, and Myrtle's job decision as well -
can you chew your fingernails while your fingers are crossed??😐

@MarieDeGournay you could resort to toe nails.

i think i have a prolapsed womb issue as per my symptoms.

now i have to try and get a GP appointment, which will make me more anxious.

Swashbuckled · 15/04/2025 21:30

Oh, @EdithStourton that DH business of not putting anything back in its place would drive me potty 🤣! I need to put everything back in its rightful place or I’d turn into a raving lunatic hunting for things. You are a very patient woman 😊. Or, of course, I am a very impatient pirate 🤔.

@MyrtleLion , I feel for you. Waiting to hear the result of something is the worst feeling. Wine is a good call.

I want a glass of wine myself; some real life news today will bring me a good amount of added stress in the next few weeks/months. It will be fine but, you know. An easy life is better.

@Bannedontherun so sorry to hear that. I hope it’s something else that is easier to treat…

EdithStourton · 15/04/2025 22:17

Banned as swashy says, I hope it's something easier to deal with.

Loving the pic of the gerbils in 'Edith's Toolbox' - excellent spelling there until the final line, which reminds me of those charts that opticians use to check just how crap your eyesight is. I suppose gerbils have little pointy teeth: affix a gerbil via its teeth to DH's thumb and he'd probably learn.

He doesn't know the whereabouts of my Good Scissors. There are plenty of crap pairs dotted about to divert him.

Oh Banned, that sounds really anxiety-making! I hope you get an appointment soon, and you get better news than you fear. Take care of yourselfFlowers

Wednesday is shaping up to be quite the day.

I've been out to a concert, wore my Grimbut gerbil t-shirt because I like it and it annoys my 'be kind' youngest. She suspects that it's terfy and she doesn't like the misspelled words. I've told her it's gerbil-ese 😁

All the best Banned. Blokes have no idea.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/04/2025 00:43

Good luck with the GP visit Banned.

I’ve got to take DH for an appointment with the eye consultant tomorrow, so we’re having our share of dubious fun too.

DeanElderberry · 16/04/2025 07:29

Oh @Bannedontherun , I hope it all goes as smoothly and well as possible.

Is the 'tool' pictured on the bottom right of the box based on a gerbil lower jaw?

Back on the BBC Archers boards we used to have a morning chat and after far too many cheerful greetings ending up bring posted just after someone else's account of something less than delightful in their lives I invented the acronym HAGADAPA for 'have as good a day as possible, all. This seems a bit like that king of morning.

Hmm never the best at spelling, always keen to add an extra g for gerbils.

Have as good day as gerbil possible all.

Oh excellent!
I was slightly dreading that ruling, but I needn't have worried.
Biology wins over ideology.

Probably. A warning to DH.

I too love the hats.

Now off to join Myrtle and Boily at the bar - which is better than trying to concentrate while listening to our plumbing wrestling with a malfunctioning radiator. We have known him a long time, I'm used to the swearing and the providing of cups of tea at hourly intervals.
