The Bluestocking - where women are women, and small furry animals are gerbils, quokkas, capybaras, or a red panda called Rosy

Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

Gemini was quite insistent that a puggle is a pug beagle crossbreed. Scale still seems to be an elusive concept, too.

I think you and Gemini are correct, Magpie, but I'm with Deano on this: if baby platypuses are not called Puggles, they jolly well should be!

Let's call the Bluestocking's baby platypus 'Puggles' and that way everybody is rightSmile

Wikipedia told me many horrible things about platypus sex-life so they'd damn well better be right about puggles it was the one cheering note in the whole horror show.

"everts his penis through his cloaca" ffs

DeanElderberry · 10/04/2025 15:39

I wonder are there really extra creepy Ozzie furries who identify as platypuses?

Wikipedia agrees baby platypuses are puggles. What people may choose to call various crossbreed dogs shouldn’t override that.
I’m always mildly disappointed that following from the original ‘designer cross’ labradoodles, we got cockerpoos rather than cockerdoodles.

Oh well - every silver lining has a cloud, eh? even platypuses😒
The most controversial thing I expected to learn about platypuses was the correct plural, little did I know the true horrors!

Our little Puggles isn't like that thoughSmile

'There there little Puggles, it's all right, Auntie Deano was talking about something else altogether😙'

@DeanElderberry if you think platypus reproduction is bad, don't look up echidnas. Quite brings tears to the eyes...

Springer x cocker spaniels are usually referred to as sprockers.

DH, ever different, calls them cocksprings.

Sex seems to be one good reason not to be Monotreme, another being bloody human scientists sticking their noses into people's private stuff. And privates.

Magpiecomplex · 10/04/2025 18:25

Apparently during mating season, female echidnas can be followed around by up to ten male echidnas. That sounds potentially irritating.

Has anyone arranged a charabanc to take the cheer leading gerbils to King's Cross for 1.30pm tomorrow?

I've written my presentation and a handout (yes I am a girly swot and proud of it) for each of the four blokes on the panel. I've practised my speech and a friend is meeting me afterwards for a drink at 2.30pm.

It's been a looooonnnnggg week!

MyrtleLion · 10/04/2025 20:13

Went to the library to print the handouts only to discover their printer is being updated. But this is why I do things early. I can send DH to go to the print shop first thing and get them to do it.

They were doing a trial run today. All sorted. This is them nearly there, just outside St Pancras, because let's face it, it's much prettier than Kings Cross.

With that kind of support, Myrtle.... it seems superfluous to wish you good luck.
But good luck anyway! Smile

Myrtle, here's to the perfect presentation tomorrow. Good luck!

EdithStourton · 10/04/2025 21:17

Good luck, Myrtle - hope it all goes fabulously well.

This is wonderful! How kind of them to do a dry run!. I'm really touched xx

I absolutely love the whole spontaneous "Fame"-style cheering.

I have actually downloaded this image to my phone to have a quick look at just before I go in.

Thank you all so much for all your good wishes!

I have done everything I can to show I'm a great candidate. If they don't choose me it will be because one of the other candidates has produced a better or more appealing plan for the role. So I'm happy with my plan and my preparation and we'll see what transpires.

Magpiecomplex · 10/04/2025 21:40

Knock em dead, @MyrtleLion. Not literally though 🤣.

Good luck! Can't fail to do your best with a phone full of cheerleading gerbils!

Swashbuckled · 10/04/2025 22:11

Good luck @MyrtleLion .

Have my fingers crossed for you 😊.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2025 22:18

All the best Myrtle!

St Pancras may be prettier but it hasn’t got a platform 9 3/4

MyrtleLion · 10/04/2025 22:47

I don't believe in omens. I'm not superstitious. And I actually know the rational reason why this just happened.

But I was looking for a particular folder to put the handouts in for tomorrow and I couldn't find it. So I opened all the drawers in the living room trying find it.

And I found this box of chocolates my mum gave me complete unexpectedly earlier this year for no reason (which never happens). And there are still chocolates in it!
I'd put it away so I wouldn't eat them all at once. Such a serendipitous event.

And I found the folder in the very next place I looked.

I do think that when job-hunting is easy, then it's probably a good indication that it might ne the right role. This role was a quick Easy Apply on LinkedIn, just a CV, no cover letter required. Applied right on the deadline having disregarded it first time round. Called the next day - only 20 minutes. CV went to the client and within two working days I was told I had an interview. That was four days later for 30 minutes. Told I had another interview 2.5 hours later. A week after that and I'm having the interview tomorrow. Aside from the library printer being closed, this has been really easy.

Here's hoping! Though I have put in a lot of work for this and it's reflected in my presentation.

MyrtleLion · 10/04/2025 22:49

And this is the box of chocolates I should have added to my last post.

I've had one chocolate as a treat. Will finish the box over the weekend with DH.
