Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

I'm trying to be careful in case it gets removed again.

I mentioned that someone was saying the NHS should no longer be free on a WhatsApp group I'm on for women who believe in biological sex. I said that I didn't want party politics to intrude and we should limit discussion about the NHS to talking about women's rights and treatment for people who think they are not their biological sex. But I also mentioned the poster in my group wanted people to exercise their democratic rights in favour of a party that has a charismatic leader and wants to be mainstream.

I didn't think what I said was controversial and I was just after support after a horrible conversation on WhatsApp.

That was it - I remember now.
It seemed totally reasonable to me, you were relating what was going on and giving your views.

Some friends of mine have that 'charismatic' chappie as their MP. Lucky them.
(Sarcasm, btw, for anyone watching.)

Now, which one of us has been moonlighting as a chocolate designer for Waitrose? These are so Bluestocking...

They do look remarkably like some of those chocolate sculptures from a previous thread! I saw the pistachio one and thought Oooooh... But I have a Hotel Chocolat one in the cupboard. The Exquisitely Nutty one. No comment. 😎

It sounds entirely reasonable. I wonder if Myrtle reports the deleted message and asks what talk guideline it broke they’d tell her? Of course what I really want to know is who the heck would report it. Maybe they should have the grace to tell us why?
(I assume ‘charismatic chappie’ is the largely absent mp of the town I grew up in. )

Passive-aggressive garden design - love it! You should set up as a consultant. Wind chimes & bamboo next to the fence a speciality.😁

I was very tempted to.start playing the violin again- after 50 years, but instead I entertained myself by singing hymns.
" What a friend we have in Jesus...."

It's not possible to report the deleted post. I went to the Talk Guidelines and there's no-one to contact there either. In fact it's hard to see how to contact the moderators at all.

In happier news, I have downloaded Merlin and it reports that I have goldfinches singing in the trees at the end of my garden.

Ten days until chocolate. Ten days until alcohol. And a couple of hours. And maybe fifteen minutes.

EdithStourton · 09/04/2025 17:58

and I've just been out for another listen:
Robin
Chiffchaff
Chaffinch
Great Tit
Collared dove
Woodie
House sparrow

New favourite toy.

We didn't do Lent this year - normally DH gives up booze and quite often give up eg chocolate.

Too much going on this year. Things are calming down now, thank God.

Outing myself here, I intend to learn the bagpipes when I retire. And play them at every opportunity!

That is all.

Oh yes, a few of the years I was parent-caring I didn't attempt to give anything else up (not that I could drink much with the ever-present possibility of some kind of emergency).

There’s a candidate from that party in every ward in the city for my local elections next month. This is a city in which over 70% of the electorate voted “Remain.”

MarieDeGournay · 09/04/2025 18:36

This might help, Myrtle:
I had a post deleted a short time ago - what puzzled me was that it said it was at my request, which it most certainly wasn't!

I posted something like I don't know why that last post was deleted, I'll check with HQ', I clicked on 'report' under it, and asked HQ why my post had been deleted.

They said it was because when I copied my email from ✨ Maya Forstater✨ I left in the sender's email address, although it was only @sexmatters so not exactly top secret...

I said that's grand, they said no prob, they removed the email address and restored the post.

It's unsettling when it happens, isn't it?

The other way (which I always forget about) is to email them at [email protected]

We get them around here.
Also rooks. Massive ones, who strut about on the fields looking busy.

We have pigeons, blackbirds and occasionally a magpie ❤️

Robins and finches seen when we feed but are not around at the moment. I'm missing seeing the fledglings but DH won't fill the bird feeders till Easter.

DeanElderberry · 09/04/2025 19:52

European jackdaws are nesting in the hole in the soffits the starlings used a few years ago. The starlings are nesting in the exit from the shower room extractor fan. I suspect they're blocking it with a forest's worth of sticks. The upside of that is I can see them coming and going.

I am being very calm and telling myself it can all wait a few months and get cleaned up, repaired, blocked off (as appropriate) in September when people will I hope have stopped nesting.

Two buzzards were coasting overhead earlier, being scolded by a corvid who they were ignoring.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/04/2025 20:22

Percy and Pip the pigeons, and the sparrow family is all we get round here.

I did see two magpies on the house opposite and the seagulls on their usual chimneys.

Birdworld it is not.

Email mumsnet HQ with your question: [email protected]

I had a post deleted on a different thread a few weeks ago, so I sent an email to that address and asked them why the post had been deleted, giving details of when and where I had posted it and my username. They got back to me explaining why it had been deleted. In my case, there was a paragraph that could be interpreted as being "anti-trans", which is against their talk guidelines. I left it at that after hearing their explanation.

Swashbuckled · 09/04/2025 21:34

I’ve been away for a family gathering and have been playing catch-up, with life and posts, since getting back.

Loads of wonderful AI pics!

All this talk of birds…. I’m considering getting the Merlin app so I can educate myself. Another thing on my “get round to” list! I’m highly skilled at visually identifying pheasants 🤣, it’s the little ones that I can get muddled up.

Swashbuckled · 09/04/2025 21:37

Someone posted these pictures of a baby platypus on my FB feed thing. My first thought was that they were very Blue Stockingy.
