And the opposite of decent is..?

I think the term 'democratically elected policy' is doing some heavy lifting. She does realise that a small number of UCU reps can vote in illegal things but they're still illegal?

And we’re back to the concept as “law as we think it should be rather than how it is”. I suspect they think they’re “going further” than the law rather than simply being wrong (as demonstrated by the witness’ not understanding the exemptions of the EA 2010 or indeed that GC views are also protected)..

ThatPithySheep · 03/04/2025 13:05

Apparently decent academic base their views on evidence, so the publicity generated by the tribunal will have made them watch the film and form an opinion. And if people think the film makers are transphobic that is a considered, academic view, and entirely the film makers fault

TheOtherRaven · 03/04/2025 13:08

She's not aware of ANYTHING or ANYONE
(except what it suits her to be aware of).

The classism is tangible

She is signed up to an elitist, colonialist and more than slightly paranoid alternative reality group, where mentioning or referring to unwanted facts or jarring said alternative reality (or resisting it's supremacy and the supremacy of people like here What Are Righteous) are evil and must be shut out.

Those outside of the alternative reality group are not entitled to equality or rights, or anything really, due to their sins and inferiority, and their failure to submit and obey their betters. It's about how American governments of the time viewed the Native Americans or slaves. Or how the English suppressed the Scots, including punishing and wiping out their language. Although in this alternative reality those doing it would performatively enact their progressive liberalism by decrying that specific historical colonialism and bore you to tears on the evils of it, while blinding themselves to their being actually, precisely the same kind of person doing the precise same thing.

Mantras like 'dogwhistle' merely translate as 'that's an illegal thought'. 'Far right' is another comfort bin in which to stuff uncomfortable facts and thoughts.

So many of these people are so depressingly stupid.

GCAcademic · 03/04/2025 13:11

I've just remembered that I have some old Acme dog whistles from when we used to have dogs. I knew there was a reason to keep them - I think I'll start wearing them as necklaces.

ThatPithySheep · 03/04/2025 13:12

Are they still going?

This from someone who teaches courses in gender studies and feminism. Here.

That page says she works as a Teaching Fellow, and has taught in Uk universities for 15 years. I know little about university academic careers, but isn’t that a long time still to be a Teaching Fellow? The family member I know who works in academia had a Teaching Fellow post (at an RG university), initially while finishing a PhD, for under two years before moving on and up.

A “teaching fellow” is a lecturer on a teaching-only permanent contract. Same pay level as “lecturer” (contracted for teaching and research) and “research fellow” (research only, no teaching).

Next level is “senior lecturer, senior teaching fellow, senior research fellow”.

This is in Uk, there was some renaming a few years ago.

Anyone got the a sample application email to watch live?

I've written to Edinburgh Tribunal but then seen it's a Watford?? Who should I write to?

They are asking for a case reference number ... And court serve is not my friend today.

Thanks!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/04/2025 13:30

Who knew you could call your dog to heel simply by saying what a woman is? Grin

ThatPithySheep · 03/04/2025 13:35

I think the case number is 3309730/2023

PersonIrresponsible · 03/04/2025 13:36

Thanks. Do you know who I email?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/04/2025 13:36

Write to Watford

PersonIrresponsible · 03/04/2025 13:37

Yes. Alas, I can't find an email address - do you know who you wrote to?

nauticant · 03/04/2025 13:38

[email protected]

GreenUp · 03/04/2025 13:39

I just heard back from Watford (been waiting 3 days) and they said they can't give out the link as they are at max capacity.

Shame as I really wanted to see GB this afternnoon - I recognised his name and then remembered he was a nasty piece of work on X during the protests against the film screening.

ThatPithySheep · 03/04/2025 13:43

It won't let me join as it says my pin (which was working fine) is now invalid

AsWithGlad · 03/04/2025 13:48

That’s a shame, @GreenUp. I imagine that usually there aren’t many observers, so the system isn’t set up for very large numbers of participants.

I suppose it’s like wristbands at festivals, one person only, not removable, so you can’t share one and let a friend go in your place when you can’t.

I don’t know if being at capacity had anything to do with the slight technical issues there were this morning. Do we know where NC and TB are? I’m wondering if they have to go to another civil court, or if they can use their own premises.

chilling19 · 03/04/2025 13:48

Yes my pin is now invalid

Same here!

nauticant · 03/04/2025 13:49

I think there's a belief at the ET that any technical problems they're having is because of "too many observers".

AsWithGlad · 03/04/2025 13:52

My PIN is also now invalid.

An email from the Listing Officer to everyone whose PIN they have invalidated might save them being inundated by requests for new ones.

Appalonia · 03/04/2025 13:52

Well that's annoying!

AsWithGlad · 03/04/2025 13:53

I only logged out over lunch because the Judge asked us to!

nauticant · 03/04/2025 13:54

I got "invalid PIN" and tried on different browsers, several times, and eventually I got back in.
