Here for your delight and delectation is the hostelry by, for, and about wise, intelligent, creative and kind women, their assorted avatars including (but not limited to) a remarkable beetle, an astute android, a wise cake, and an assembly of companion creatures and animal assistants.

Food and drink available in abundance, all with remarkable non-damaging qualities.

Males may congregate in the nearby Staunch Ally and sometimes visit the stableyard to view outdoor performances by the gerbil waitstaff (who need to be distracted after the moment after that terrible 'misunderstanding' about the meaning of safe sex).

last thread here if you need to know why the Quokkas need some extra cuddles, and why the Cabybaras are being particularly efficient just now

Congratulations! Love your DH too (or is it wishful thinking on his part, hoping you'll go back to work before you fill the whole house with miniature worlds?).

I've shown this to DH and he has said (and I quote) "I couldn't possibly comment!" 😂

Just checked out the beaver stuff. They were spotted near me a couple of years ago, apparently. I haven't seen one yet.

What was the buffalo thread? And has anyone used the immortal MN line 'Is it glue you're on?' - I'm going back for page 2.

Bison.
The OP has started many troll threads featuring various exceptionally weird concerns/conspiracies - I fear the other examples have been deleted but MNHQ have decided to let this one run.
IIRC the bison ones were prompted by this delightful news, the troll was concerned that it heralded the south east being eventually trampled by herds of bison I think

"Just don't start me on angry badgers".

EdithStourton · 07/03/2025 17:33

Many congrats, Myrtle.

I am on a number of countryside pages where views on beaver reintroduction tend to be mixed (farmers have spent centuries draining fields, and they do not want beavers damning the streams). Now and then a sad little picture does the rounds, of a beaver squished by a tree it has just felled, captioned 'When you're a landscape engineer but missed out the health and safety module.'

Spring is springing around here, though not as froggily as it is for Errol. the blackthorn is coming into flower, the cock pheasants are shouting stridently as they stake their claims to territory, the rooks are quarrelling loudly about who is going to nest where and this afternoon I passed a tree full of goldfinches who were possible discussing who was going to shag who.

Wonderful news, @MyrtleLion - and congratulations on the amazing clock too.

We have had a small horological success here - for ages we’ve been saying we needed to get our mantle clock fixed - dh got it from his grandad, so it has sentimental value. It’s a Mappin and Webb clock, but when asked, they said they couldn’t fix a clock that old, so we decided to buy a whole new face and movement unit, to fit the clock. Our first effort fitted, and looked good - it had a transparent centre so you could see the movement - but unfortunately the hands were completely invisible, so it was bob-useless for actually telling the time. So we bought a less fancy unit, and it not only fits, but you can tell the time using it! 🕰️

On a related topic - does anyone want an attractive but impractical clock mechanism? 😂😂😂

Those really are rather wonderful images. Congratulations OP, both on the interview and on what seems to be excellent taste in walruses.

Swashbuckled · 07/03/2025 18:27

Congratulations @MyrtleLion!!
Hope you have a lovely meal.

Lovely pics @ifIwerenotanandroid
The hound wouldn’t have recognised me!

Funnily enough, I did have an odd sensation in my hands when I was on the beach. They started to curl in and felt ever so stiff, and then they started snapping around my head so much that I was flailing about like a mad woman by the crashing waves. Anyway, it stopped as soon as it began and I thought nothing of it. But now it all makes sense… Phew 😌.

I’ve been to the Beaver thread (thanks for the tip) and I also wondered whether we should get some beavers for the Blue Stocking. A dam would make a lovely swimming pool for the gerbils.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/03/2025 19:01

I think the capybara would get on very well with beavers. The beavers could make them a pool to keep their oranges in.

And they'd defend each other from anyone who might think they're on the menu during Lent.

Why not?

I can't remember where but I once saw a bit of film with a beaver eating a piece of carrot somebody had handed it - it looked a bit like this AI image but much more cute & gormless. In fact, incredibly gormless. I've felt kindly towards them ever since.

I found this...I think she needs big 'horse carrots' not nice tender slices

Bannedontherun · 07/03/2025 20:08

I love it here we can discuss other posts unencumbered, and i do like spotting my pals out in the wild.

Well done @MyrtleLion

there is another thread about GC women forming real world connections which i would like to keep going so if y’all could have a look

FuzzyPuffling · 07/03/2025 20:44

I agree banned. I feel all excited and happy when I see another Bluestockinger. 😀

This is so cute! and fascinating - I didn't think beavers' hands were so like..well, hands! And that she doesn't look at the slices at all, she has obviously ascertained at first glance that they are all in a row and just feels her way along to the next one. And she does a funny little pre-biting - at first I thought it was sarcasm because of the very thin slice, so she was pretending to make a big meal of itGrin - followed by the proper machine-like eating.

As fascinating as it is cuteSmile

FuzzyPuffling · 07/03/2025 21:18

She's not sharing her carrot with that pair of degus(?) is she?

Bannedontherun · 07/03/2025 21:33

@FuzzyPuffling re the thread on lonely GC. Wondering what you think as well

i think we have seen more than a bit of peeking in the wild since Peggie, and that a lot of these women are very much younger than some of us old hacks.

So i am kinda keen to help them connect with each other, is that possible, i mean we took a leap, but there is no PM facility at the moment what da ya think

Bannedontherun · 07/03/2025 21:33

Maybe i should be off line

FuzzyPuffling · 07/03/2025 21:43

I agree...i think we were very fortunate here to find the safety and trust of the Bluestocking. I do wonder if we come over as cliquey- and I do hope not- which prevents people coming in, or staying.
We were also lucky to time it right with the WhatsApp group as we couldn't do that now.

EdithStourton · 07/03/2025 21:59

There is a WhatsApp group?

Mind you, I do not have WhatsApp. It is how I dodge being on various hobby groups that I don't want to be bothered with... One seems to be muted by about half the people who are on it, as some of the regulars post ALL THE TIME and are very tiresome.

Yes there are i think six or seven of us who are on here, fuzzy set it up. Posting on it is intermittent, so mostly more personal stuff.

All of us active here as well but it is nice.

DeanElderberry · 08/03/2025 07:10

I'm a 'never use anything from Meta' resister, so don't/won't do WhatsApp. I know I miss out on some of the shared information from groups I'm in, but am not prepared to help our overlords and their AI assistants by handing them all my data.

I'm sure they can and do grab it anyway, I'm just not going to give it.

Just in case anyone feels left out, the WA group is open to any Bluestockingers, it's an added extra to these chats and is, as banned says an opportunity to talk about real life stuff.
Without PM I appreciate it's difficult for anyone else to join, but it's not a Secret Club!

It's genuinely end to end encrypted so they only have access to the metadata which (imo) is less valuable to them than the service is to me, given I don't use their other products like FB and insta.
