Rather belatedly adding my wows. It's not just having the talent and patience to assemble them, it's having the ability to start and finish it, to see it through. I'm impressed on so many levels.

They do look amazing.

Fella's dad got an owl clock as a gift. I worry about dusting it and it getting damaged. I suggested he cover it with a bell jar 😁 There's probably a company on-line somewhere that does bespoke acrylic boxes.

Boiledbeetle · 17/02/2025 21:38

@MyrtleLion you'd think! But what do you do when both hands are glued to the outside of the hand sanitiser bottle?

Not that that's EVER happened to me of course. Just asking for a cack handed friend!

MarieDeGournay · 17/02/2025 21:40

Your model-making is amazing, Myrtle! really brilliant. I like making little things, but you are a few leagues above me [is there a 'bowing down' emoji?🙇yes, apparently that what this splodge is!]

And I'm glad you got positive feedback about the job app, and that it has boosted your confidence. Next one, eh?Smile

My effort of fiddly crafts got pissed off with it just as the tribunal came along

I see you bought the 'house after a hurricane' model!

Looks good!

Hand sanitiser gets glue off? Top tip, Myrtle, thank you.

Yes! I use 70% alcohol gel. DSD is immunocompromised so we bought a load to make sure we didn't bring Covid into the house. It is quite runny and does smell of alcohol, but is fab for removing glue.

I use Gorilla wood glue for the wooden pieces because it is very good at sticking wood together (who knew!) - it either is PVA or is very like PVA (the kind that peels off your fingers). I squeeze enough for the immediate job onto a sheet of paper and use cotton buds to spread the glue onto the pieces that need glueing then wipe the top with a tissue before closing - I've had the glue dispenser bit get too glued up to be any use otherwise. This is good for about 5-10 minutes before drying out.

I use an all-purpose warer-based glue for sticking anything else to wood or each other. This sets more quickly but can get messy. Do not use superglue because too much ends up on fingers... Again I squeeze it onto paper but use much less as it goes off in less than a minute. I use a pin or dip the item directly in the glue because cotton buds end up stuck to the paper or the glue or the desk.

DH gave me a spare scalpel set.

Is it an X-acto set? And don't you love American brand names like X-acto craft knives and La-z-boy recliner chairs?

Did you know that the X-acto company was founded by the father of the 2020 Nobel Prizewinner for Literature, Louise Glück?

No' a lo' of people know va' 😄
But this being the Bluestocking, maybe you all do🤔

Bannedontherun · 17/02/2025 21:51

@Boiledbeetle It’s supposed to be a greenhouse, but you have to construct all the teeny weeny plants and other stuff and glue them in before putting sides and roof on

frankly got bored…..

I don't know which brand as the blades aren't marked. I keep my tweezers)separate brand) in the box too.

I didn't know that about Louise Glück. But I love that you do and now I do know ❤️

That is lovely x
I hope you get time to complete it.

Myfluffyblanket · 17/02/2025 22:10

I've had a bit of a rubbish day . A lunatic tried to gain entry to my house. She broke a large terracotta pot and I have had to put the house back into full lockdown.
I made chicken risotto ; it was lovely but I am so tense i couldn't eat much so I think I'll wander down to the pub with this lot...

That's horrible! How stressful for you.

Someone trying to get into your house must be absolutely terrifying, lunatic or not. I hope you feel better after going to the pub with all the furry creatures ❤️

I love that two of my loves - model-making and poetry - came together in this weird way.

I know my set is an X-acto cos it's written on the lidGrin

Fluffy! That sounds awful! I hope you feel safer and more secure now.

Glad you followed the little furry.. whatever-they-ares down to the Bluestocking, come in and relax by the fire with your drink of choice BrewWine💙

I found the perfect spot for you. If you need booze too, consider a large slug of brandy/gin/whisky/rum is in the mug.

Poor you! @Myfluffyblanket

That sounds frightening. Hope you are feeling the warmth of the hot chocolate and fluffy blanket from Myrtle.

And are your little friends possums?

MarieDeGournay · 17/02/2025 22:37

Has AlisonDonut popped in to the Stocking at all today?

We can figure it out from the context I expect - this is one corner of the internet where we should be confident that emojis are benign not malign.

Mnhq needs to add a WTF 😱 reaction and a how awful 😢 reaction.

Yes thank you, Marie, Swash, Myrtle and Inky I'm calming down now.
She's not a nice person - quite stabby in fact (my son, in the neck, with broken wineglasses, twice) and the DGC are beyond distressed because of her behaviour.
And then...I did not hear the breadmaker telling me my loaf was ready . Would anyone like an organic wholemeal well-baked doorstop ? If not, I'll offer it to the capybaras.
