NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #14

nauticant · 12/02/2025 11:30

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to continue for 2 weeks although once it was in to the second week it was looking like this would not happen. The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton started giving evidence on Thursday 6 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] headed Public Access Request (Peggie v Fife Health Board) 4104864/2024 and requesting access.

However, as a result of problems with the livestreaming, apparently, as a result of a very large number of observers, remote public access to the hearing was suspended on Tuesday 11 February. It was suggested that it might be reinstated at some point but don't count on it.

The hearing is being live tweeted by https://x.com/tribunaltweets and there's additional information here: https://tribunaltweets.substack.com/p/peggie-vs-fife-health-board-and-dr. This also has threadreaderapp archives of live-tweeting of the sessions of the hearing for those who can't follow on Twitter, for example: archive.is/xkSxy.

First interruption of the day from JR. It must be very difficult for her.

GCITC · 12/02/2025 12:06

Just catching up with this mornings evidence.

Has anyone managed to put together a timeline?

What does lower case c mean from TT? I've seen it a fair bit. I don't think it means claimant in the context I've seen it.

Also is Y yes or why? Because my preteen uses it for why so this is how I read it but not sure...

C means complaint and y does mean yes

Lunde · 12/02/2025 12:06

JR suspiciously quiet today - DU needs to watch out for the Fife bus as DU may end up under it!

c is circa - about.

So questions c resus = questions about resus

Ah I stand corrected. Perhaps I've been reading this thread wrong, slightly.

ickky · 12/02/2025 12:07

NC Cos coming true from R2 answers - have just heard that he wasn't interested in patient safety aspect

J q to put ...

NC among the things that your demand to have id validated is patient safety.

DU Not demanding . Asking for respect. If someone hands over patient and calls me

TriesNotToBeCynical · 12/02/2025 12:07

ickky · 12/02/2025 12:04

I think that is the first time today JR has interjected, she must be restraining herself.

Not impossible the judge has had Words, behind the scenes.

ickky · 12/02/2025 12:07

sir I won't refuse handover. Patient safety in an emergency ...Individual safety, then team, then patient Someone treating me like this - incivility harms ppl ability to work well. In an urgent sit patient safety trumps everything after individual and team safety

Hild0 · 12/02/2025 12:08

I love that NC got the 'immersive role play' comment in again today. It cuts straight to the source of his narcissistic rage.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/02/2025 12:08

anyolddinosaur · 12/02/2025 12:00

@Ereshkigalangcleg If there is a serious incident my understanding is the datix must be completed as soon as possible. If a junior doctor was in any doubt about whether an incident was serious enough to report I'd expect them to consult someone more senior.

What NHS Fife will be claiming is that the datix was done when it was realised that Sandie's attitude to upton was a risk to patient safety. But they dont seem to have anything to back that up except Dr U's minor - and disputed - recollections.

Thank you!

NebulousDog · 12/02/2025 12:08

Asked miles up thread, but some TT use lower "c" to mean "about".

Typically used as an abbreviation of "circa"

ickky · 12/02/2025 12:09

NC If resus incident true, then SP so bigoted cos to trans is can't put it aside even when working tog to save life of sick patient.

DU Y that is potential consequence.

NC If true should be suspended at once on gross misconduct

I think the judge needs to get his prostate checked......lots of toilet breaks.

are you assuming his sex?

nauticant · 12/02/2025 12:09

I do like to see a NebulousDog on a thread.

It does, but the judge seems a bit over-sensitive to it......suggesting she's used that line before - rather than realising it is the nature of this reality.

Yes, it's slightly confusing at first glance and 're' might be easier to understand and the more expected shorthand for 'about', but I can see that 'c' is quicker for TT to type!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/02/2025 12:10

We've all got our whistles for her.

BloominNora · 12/02/2025 12:10

Ha - wondered whether NC was going to raise the fact that he kept detailed notes on his hurt feelings but not on the patient safety accusation seemed to suggest he cared more about himself than patient safety....and sure enough there it is!

c/sp is for claimant
