The Green Party expels Shahrar Ali

cariadlet · 26/09/2024 23:18

The Green Party had been found guilty of discrimination against Shahrar.
9K costs awarded in February.

He was suspended shortly before the Autumn Conference where he had proposed a motion in support of the Cass Review.

2 weeks ago he was awarded 90k. The Green Party is also facing massive legal bills for its own costs.

Today, they expelled Shahrar.

I'm sorry the Greens are so insane.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 26/09/2024 23:26

Are they absolutely fucking mental??

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/09/2024 23:26

Hmm - how can we make ourselves look even more stupid -
I know - expel him.

LizzieSiddal · 26/09/2024 23:31

Oh my goodness. They are insane aren’t they. What a way to run a party!

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 26/09/2024 23:32

Are Greens aware that shouting Expelliarmus at all their internal critics is not going to make the next cohort of legal actions vanish in a puff of smoke?

PurpleSparkledPixie · 26/09/2024 23:36

Obviously the Green party is identifying as a rich and powerful political party who can do whatever they want.

Hopefully Shahrah will disabuse them of that theory and bring them back to reality.

EDIT - who/how many have the ability to expel him btw?

cariadlet · 26/09/2024 23:40

They've lost a huge amount of money that they can ill afford - capitation to local parties has already stopped.

2 ongoing legal cases and more people considering it.

The new Greens in Exile group were a very visible presence outside Conference and are starting to get through to ordinary members who are oblivious to what has been happening.

I don't know what it will take to bring the Green Party to its senses.

@PurpleSparkledPixie The decision was probably made by GPRC (Green Party Regional Council) which is dominated by TRAs. But that's just an educated guess.

It's a pity the Greens are so weird. They could have been a force for good.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 27/09/2024 00:38

Thank you.

It is made up from two members elected by a postal ballot from within each region (20 members in all).
https://greenparty.org.uk/about/people/regional-council/

They are listed and seem an even split of sex (based on having usual male/female names but we know this means nothing nowadays).

MrsWhattery · 27/09/2024 00:43

What have they officially/purportedly expelled him for? Being in the right?

Being too expensive?

TERFtown · 27/09/2024 00:55

It's their loss. He's a diamond.

Byjimminy · 27/09/2024 01:15

Can't believe I ever used to vote for them (Tory safe seat) but I was always happy to support Caroline Lucas. She's been my biggest let down ever on this issue.

lonelywater · 27/09/2024 01:29

the greens must be in some sort of competition with themselves to see how many times they can break the twat-o-meter.

mcduffy · 27/09/2024 06:52

Such a let down, I used to vote for them as a protest vote but they're so captured

Runor · 27/09/2024 07:20

Can he sue again? Maybe this is the route for funding a different kind of ‘green’ party 😆

Theeyeballsinthesky · 27/09/2024 07:32

Hahahah what utter clowns they are

kiterunning · 27/09/2024 07:38

Sue! Sue! Sue!
Go on- I dare you to!

This gets even more insane. They suspended Ali a few weeks before the conference because he was planning to table motions at the conference not because they had a real case against him. The reason for the suspension was drumroll please... because Ali said Imane Khelif, the male boxer from the Olympics was a MAN.

This is was Ali said at the time of the suspension :
Shahar Ali
Recklessly - Green Party of England & Wales has today sought to "no fault" suspend me, pending investigation, on basis of a complaint I take to be wholly vexatious, in particular, for standing up for rights of WOMEN in sport not to be subjected to MALE violence in Olympic boxing ring. For calling out indefensible endangerment of women in sport, it is I who stands accused of "posing a danger to party" & allegedly bringing it into disrepute for aligning myself with JK Rowling & others.
Let me be clear, what happened in Olympics was high end of obscene. I will not corrupt my moral compass through failure to speak out about it - NEVER! Nor will I capitulate to the fanatics in Green Party, as my recent legal VICTORY should have amply demonstrated. Continued, sustained campaign of harassment against my gender critical protected belief, & that of other brilliant people, will not go unchecked. Timing of "no-fault" suspension is particularly sinister as it now prevents me from speaking to a motion on Cass at conference in just two week's time. I urge all sane members to pass that motion doubly strongly as an act of defiance & solidarity! Green Party is playing a very dangerous game. I am still in litigation with them, with a cost hearing next month. I am seeking legal advice on latest development.

So unless they have found something else to get him on they will have to argue that Imane Khelif is a woman in court and there was NO question over his sex at all. Remember Khelif was not trans and never claimed to be. This is purely about the genetics of his sex.

Plus obviously there was a huge media and public debate about the situation at the Olympics everyone was debating it. The question of Khelif's sex currently is that the two tests showing he was male have not been released, but they were done correctly as far as we know and Khelif has refused to take additional tests to prove they were wrong. So Ali's position is fair. It would be a spectacular case which the Greens would lose. Especially as JKR is possibly involved too as well from the sound of it if the Greens decided to expel him because he listened to her position on Khelif.

Very very dumb.

Helleofabore · 27/09/2024 07:42

I wonder what other plans they have for making their own party completely unelectable, although to be fair they would have to have a party left in existence to have candidates elected at the next election.

user47 · 27/09/2024 07:43

It's a good job there are no environmental emergencies they should be focusing on isn't it? 🙄

Alalalala · 27/09/2024 07:55

They should just rebrand themselves as a TRA party. They are no longer a party motivated by environmental issues at all.

What toxic stupidity they display. It’s such a huge disappointment.

PronounssheRa · 27/09/2024 07:57

Fucking hell

I remember the days when flooding on this scale might have media talking to Greens about climate change, deforestation, ecological management etc.

Can't think when I last saw a comment similar to that. Caveat, I don't live in X or other Y places where they've some degree of general power.
