En franglais, in English .... open to all women for company, fun and fabulous artworks. Leave unwanted reality in the porch and come along in.

I'm booked in for my first cataract op next month.
I have a huge fear that when my eyesight clears I shall discover many, many rogue hairs I have been unable to see...but everyone else has been judging me on for years.

That seems fast!

On the hair front though, if there are rogue ones think how long they'll be! There may be a record breaking length one just sat there on your chin!

And think how enjoyable it's going to be to be able to finally stand in front of the mirror and be able to see what you're aiming for with the tweezers whilst you pluck all the fuckers!

Mornin', is it too early for a liquid lunch?

Love that picture Boily!

It's fast because I'm not having to wait for the nhs. They won't do them.until you are practically blind, so I'm going down the health insurance route. Thank you Benenden, for letting me carry on driving, reading, using my phone, grandchild- care etc.

Boiledbeetle · 26/09/2024 23:17

It's really very moreish

Those are blueberries, not sloes. Tut. It's been a bad year for sloes (too much rain as the blackthorn set fruit) but I have my secret locations....

@Magpiecomplex I'll be decanting last year's for drinking as I start the new batch. I'm not sure that even a low-reality zone can do much with sloes, bitter little bastards that they are (anyone else ever tried eating one?)

@Bannedontherun I hope today goes better than expected.

Don't blame you and it's what health insurance for!

After when they are trying to do the eye tests to check their success, you'll be all "never mind eye charts, get me a mirror and some tweezers, then I'll be able to tell you how successful it was".

Apologies. Would you believe me if I said I was just having the blueberries as a snack? I've just realised I don't actually know what sloes look like. In my head they resemble gooseberries!

DeanElderberry · 27/09/2024 09:26

I knew someone who used to put a couple of sloes in an apple tart - they turned the fruit pink and gave it a slightly plummy flavour - removed before eating of course.

Also read stuff by an archaeobotanist who experimented with drying various native fruits to see how they'd do as 'hungry gap' foods (she was partly inspired by the extent to which whole sloes and haws turn up incorporated in the faecal fill in medieval cesspits). She said sloes dried quite well, lost their extreme astringency, and became something that would enhance a stew or pottage during the winter months. I wish I could remember her name.

Magpiecomplex ·..I'm teaching soil science tomorrow morning so I should probably go to bed too.

lcakethereforeIam- You teach science t...to...s...nah!
I think I've overdone the gin.

Damn! I'm losing my pedant-ish-ness, I hadn't spotted that, lcakethereforeIam!

I did however think that
' I'm sorry, I'd love to but I'm teaching soil science tomorrow morning
would be a great way to turn down unappealing invitations.Smile

EdithStourton · 27/09/2024 09:45

@DeanElderberry I might try that.

And Boily, of course I believe you!

That's the periodic table, isn't it? It's like an occasional table, but with a more structured schedule for when it identifies as a table. Like maybe once a monthGrin

Have to say Boily, tippety top AI-wrangling going on here..... and the teaching soil science pic made me hoot!

lcakethereforeIam · 27/09/2024 11:03

Ooh, my head. Am I too late for a fry up?

Had the strangest dreams last night. A magpie was trying to teach the dirt in my garden about the 2nd law of thermodynamics but was constantly interrupted by a dragon, a beetle and some fairies playing poker and drinking gin under an occasional table. Weird!

It was probably that piece of cheese you ate for supper that did it!

I can hear the gerbils still clanking about in the kitchen so I'm sure they'll rustle you up a fry up if you can grab the attention of one of them!

It's entirely your fault that I will be now be suggesting to DH that we have egg and chips this evening. (DH is currently doing all the cooking because he wants to. After decades of catering for the family, I'm more than delighted to let him do almost all of it.)

lcakethereforeIam · 27/09/2024 12:22

I'm going shopping later on. I'm buying eggs, mango chutney and nasty white sliced bread (I've already got chilli sauce).

Squinting at the fuzzy letters, the 'art' AI is as bad at chemistry as it is at human anatomy. (Sorry...ruining a good joke with chemical pedantry)
