What a surprise! …not,
And this is despite so many people were asking #IsItOk for a 51 year old man to be competing in a women’s race?

The last leg

We used to love The Last Leg but then it got a bit of a misogynistic vibe. My children and husband then gave up on it too. Glad other people have noticed it as well as our family.

Adam is really into his rugby. Wonder how he’d feel about his daughters playing against men?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/09/2024 11:14

utterly unsurprised. They’ve avoided the whole issue like the plague for as long as possible and when they finally couldn’t not remotely surprised that blokey bloke show supported a bloke

whereas they’d be apoplectic if able bodied ppl identified as having a disability

twats

corlan · 03/09/2024 11:18

Stopped watching years ago. Adam in particular gives off really smug woker-than-thou vibes. Off puttingly self righteous

HandShoe · 03/09/2024 11:19

Yeah, no surprise at their take on this, or that they didn’t pan the camera to the audience who I doubt shared his view on that male cheat. I imagine the head shakes and eye rolls would have been a nice contrast.

SabrinaThwaite · 03/09/2024 11:19

‘Very inclusive’ - if you’re an over the hill bloke.

Useful photo.

I’m another one who used to watch, but no longer does. The final straw was them having a go at JKR. Never watched it since.

HRTQueen · 03/09/2024 11:23

Not surprised

Your hear the misogyny seeping through nearly all tv shows and podcasts that are mainly presented by men. It really shows when there is a woman on, often to share her experience or expertise and she is just spoken over. Its very disappointing

Waitingfordoggo · 03/09/2024 11:26

‘Once again just proving how inclusive the paralympics are’ says Adam.

Well let’s take that to its logical conclusion and include people with 20/20 vision in the races for visually impaired people shall we?

No? That’s different somehow is it? I wish Adam would have a good think about ‘inclusion’ and how it works in competitive sport.

Helleofabore · 03/09/2024 11:27

I am another one who stopped watching the last leg. But I have always known that Mills was going to support this form of inclusion. He has always been this way inclined.

Plasmodesmata · 03/09/2024 11:29

It was a very quick, almost throwaway mention, praising inclusivity.
No photo. (why not?)
No footage of the race. (why not?)
No inkling that there might be any problems with this whatsoever.
No comment from any women required.
Cowardly, I reckon.
At least the C4 commentary earlier in the day was a bit more balanced (with Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson and Libby Clegg)

Beefcurtains79 · 03/09/2024 11:31

They’ve been sneering at women’s rights and ramping up the misogyny for a while now - whilst acting sanctimonious AF, this isn’t surprising.

Yes, I found it quite refreshing that the C4 commentary was actually allowing some fairly balanced discussion, rather than either basically ignoring it or parroting an agreed line.

Libby, as I recall, said something along the lines of that she had sympathy for Petrillo but would most likely have had an issue about racing against him. (She didn't say "him", of course.)

Ohcrap082024 · 03/09/2024 11:41

I saw the comment last night. It was said with an air of “I’m right, you’re wrong”. No discussion/input from a female athlete. No footage of the race or the athlete in question. No comment from anyone else. Just one man using his platform to state his opinion as fact. What a surprise.

SirChenjins · 03/09/2024 11:45

Wonder if Adam would be as supportive of this version of ‘inclusive’ if someone closed their eyes when running and claimed they were visually impaired in order to take part.

MagpiePi · 03/09/2024 11:49

The last leg has been totally TWAW for years.
Adam Hills and Alex Brooker both have two daughters and Josh Widdecombe has one daughter. I wonder how they justify their attitudes to them.

@SirChenjins I wonder if Adam would be as cheerful if someone with two full legs identified as an amputee and ran. A little bit closer to Adam’s heart, methinks.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 03/09/2024 12:14

‘Once again just proving how inclusive the paralympics are’ says Adam…

which is a bizarre statement to make given that the Paralympics is the exact opposite of ‘inclusive. It is deliberately - and rightly - ‘exclusive’.

Fenlandia · 03/09/2024 12:15

Another ex-viewer here, got so bored of the endless sanctimonious posturing on politics and the same jokes being recycled year after year. Unsurprised that they are all in on Petrillo competing.

WickedSerious · 03/09/2024 12:20

They can fuck off to the arse end of fuck.

I'm a massive rugby league fan, and given the paucity of coverage on terrestrial TV (and the media in general) compared the vastly inferior other form of rugby, I thought it'd be great to have another voice for the sport on TV. But no, the dismal, thoughtless, rainbow-bedecked mess of it all, very disappointing.

Well, quite. But there's no evidence of any clear thinking here at all.

CorruptedCauldron · 03/09/2024 12:30

The audience sound as quiet as mice on that clip. Wouldn’t they have whooped or cheered if they were in agreement with Hills? He’s insufferably smug and self-righteous, turning what was once a light-hearted show into his own personal political soapbox, eager to score left-wing brownie points despite reeking of bourgeois male privilege.

He couldn’t care less about women.

SirChenjins · 03/09/2024 12:31

Absolutely. He’d change his (predictable male) tune in a heartbeat.

LostMySocks · 03/09/2024 12:32

I'm so disappointed with Hills. I remember the early days of last leg. He had a full on rant supporting his wife who had been getting hassle or having difficulties finding somewhere to breastfeed.
