www.stonewall.org.uk/schools-colleges/stonewall-school-college-champion-membership

Following a strategic review, we’ve taken the decision to stop offering new memberships of our School and College Champions programme. We are proud to have provided training to thousands of teachers across the country over a period of almost 20 years.

Excellent news!!

Well, well, well - about time too!

Bannedontherun · 02/09/2024 19:57

Well one down lots to go….

KitchenDancefloor · 02/09/2024 19:58

Universities next?! (Ha, I can dream)

Helleofabore · 02/09/2024 20:07

Watching this with avid interest.

hihelenhi · 02/09/2024 20:13

VERY interesting.

Good. Bye now. Door, arse. Pity you blew what Stonewall built and completely ruined your own reputations and all the hard work of all those who fought for gay rights, cheers Ruth Hunt, Nancy and other assorted cultists who ended up promoting homophobia, misogyny and conversion therapy, you absolute idiots are now surplus to requirements.

PronounssheRa · 02/09/2024 20:20

Good, but it's going to take years to undo the damage that has been done to schools and children.

I do wonder what their next move will be.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/09/2024 20:24

Long overdue.
I hope that it's as a result of schools finally realising that it was wrong to sign up to a political lobby group that seeks to erase the rights of women and girls, enforce mixed sex showers, changing rooms, dormitories, sport etc and teach girls that their boundaries don't exist?
Or maybe they can see that post Cass, their legal culpability for teaching a generation of children that sex change is possible and unproblematic will lead to massive financial accountability?
Or there's a major Mermaids type scandal about to drop?

Who knows.

Really aggressive lobbying, they still have friends in Government.

Bannedontherun · 02/09/2024 20:53

Maybe someone complained to the Charity Commission.

There is a world of difference between education and promoting a particular point of view. Which is clearly stated in Charity Regs.

Stonewall were selling an ideology dressed up as education and were in breach of the regs.

These were my first thoughts too @MrsOvertonsWindow. Particularly the second.

RhymesWithOrange · 02/09/2024 21:53

But did you see the list of gender ideology child snatchers they are referring schools and colleges to instead??? As dangerous and more likely to avoid the high level of scrutiny that Stonewall has been getting.

Bannedontherun · 02/09/2024 21:55

Yep just checking the charity register against the list.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 02/09/2024 22:10

Okay... what's the angle? Stonewall never quietly slips away without something else up their sleeve.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop 👀

EDIT - oh good grief, they've listed Mermaids as a substitute 😮

That's a good point.

They are equally as dangerous to children BUT... Stonewall have lived off their once excellent reputation for some ground breaking work on homophobic bullying in schools etc.
Most of the other groups are single issue or with such a dodgy online presence that it's easy for schools (and parents) to see in advance just how unsuitable / they would be. I mean Mermaids?

Or the Proud Trust with their infamous dice game that they promote for 13 plus children?

Excellent news.

Yes, these are like hydra and will splinter into smaller groups, but as noted above, they don't have the reach or reputation Stonewall had.

I see.

It is about detaching Stonewall from legal claims then. They don’t want anymore court cases that show exactly how incompetent and run by ideologues they are. They don’t want the public to also see them as being so unbalanced in their political agenda as it has cost them very dearly over the past years.

Oh well. It will rather depend on the charity commission’s findings about Mermaids whether anyone will have any respect for any organisation that continued to refer people to that service. I cannot believe though that the Charity Commission has been allowed to drag on that investigation.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 03/09/2024 08:09

Well, that’s brilliant, but I want to see Just Like Us go too. I’ve listened to a couple of their trans ‘ambassadors’ telling their stories, & they think they’re wonderful & life affirming.

Theyre actually terrifying.

"to stop offering new memberships of our School and College Champions programme"
Does this mean the old ones are still on the go?

That's some long-ass investigation. What is it, two years, now?

Was very pleased to see the new guidance that Sex Matters have written for schools referred to the need for political impartiality with a specific section about the need for schools to ensure that don't use groups, teaching or display materials emanating from political activist groups.

Well worth reading the guidance for anyone working in schools and parents:

A model policy that protects all children’s wellbeing - Sex Matters

Teachers and pupils in England are going back to school this week, and are still lacking finalised guidance or a model policy from the Department for Education on what to do if children ask to be allowed to “socially transition” and be treated as the o...

They are still recommending Mermaids as an alternative though and some other questionable captured organisations as alternatives.

Yes it does unfortunately but hopefully schools start to leave the dodgy programme
