Miss...miss...stale, male, pale! 🙋‍♀️

Correct! He is a middle aged white guy called Nigel (not his actual name but suits him just as well as his actual name)

RumNotRun · 23/07/2024 19:52

This came up on my FB in an Amazon ad. I thought it was very appropriate and kind of cool.

I want one! Does it have an item name.(my Amazon searches are confused enough as it is!)

And can I just say Aston if I can find a photo on the internet of a bloke to confirm to myself he was a middle agreed white guy with just he/him pronouns to go on and three sentences in an email do you honestly think you could anonymise (how do you spell that??) vast quantitiess of posts? Get a grip!!

lcakethereforeIam · 23/07/2024 19:58

It looks awesome.

Bodeganights · 23/07/2024 20:06

Placemarking as I think this thread might blow up with the Aston uni banning all research using the data.

Also name changed for no reason, twirls. Missed a lot of the last thread, covid is shit sometimes, or a really nasty cold, whichever it kept me off tinternet for a while. So as I missed like 27 pages, im just not going to catch up. Dont think I need to catch up like, itll all be fine.

DrSoupDragonsFriend · 23/07/2024 20:09

As an excuse for place marking (I'd lost the thread), I've just discovered this.

@Boiledbeetle cover your compound eyes.

You can buy jewellery made from real, beautiful, iridescent, beetle wings. I thought this was something that was only manufactured in uncivilised huntin', shootin', fishin', dismemberin', insects Victorian times but no. You can buy this stuff on Etsy etc today. Horrible.

RethinkingLife · 23/07/2024 20:24

GrimbutGerbil · 23/07/2024 19:18

To get back to where this all started, a well-connected gerbil tells me that Aston have sent out an update to their research ethics framework which says that the use of social media data sets in research is prohibited until further legal guidance is issued.

Will report this post so MN see it...

Subject to verification etc., please thank the well-connected gerbil for this news.

Is a commemorative baseball shirt in the works?

A grievance gerbil mumbling, "I always knew I wasn't BU"?

This is thread 2 ALREADY!!!!! Weve filled a complete thread of complete gibberish!!

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5068974-aston-university-gerbil-merch-thread

Please leave your brain, along with your coat and umbrella at the cloak room. There is someone working but as we are currently only employing gerbils you might have to let yourself in and just take a ticket.

I'd tell you what you missed but I don't think anyone is to sure as to the exact contents of thread one.

It contained gerbils

Oh and t shirts.

And many digs at Aston uni

Oh, and me and @ifIwerenotanandroid got married. Had a lovely wedding dressed in our best clothes and honeymoon and then we split up when we realised we couldn't live together. There was some uncertainty as too whether we actually consummated the marriage though.

I got to keep the tomato plants in the split. Android got the wedding album.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 23/07/2024 20:29

Memories, darling! I got memories that will never leave me - well, apart from a few hours which I don't think I ever had. You know, after the champagne it's all a bit hazy.

Many thanks to the OP for the update.

Thankfully I don't shop on etsy the thought of finding my brother's Bertrum and Benedict, who disappeared one summer in mysterious circumstances, made into jewellery...shudders! It's just too much for a beetle to bare . Now if it was my half brother Wayne (dad had a fling with a wasp) I wouldn't be arsed!

lcakethereforeIam · 23/07/2024 21:01

There were a lot of hex, runes and ogham. I'm faintly surprised Aston hasn't turned into a newt.

Has anyone actually checked?

Boiledbeetle · 23/07/2024 21:30

You know i think on every thread going forward if people have been talking sense and stay on topic for more than 25/30 (that's generous i was going to say 10 but some posters would literally kill me!) Posts someone should waltz on do a couple of posts about data scraping, Aston being a crap uni who steal things, gerbils and chocolate and then flounce!

Right, I'm on the other tablet...

was it one of these ones?

Yes it's the bottom right one. Such cheery-looking little rodents, they made me smile. Thank you!Smile

Maybe Aston were turned into a newt but got better?

RethinkingLife · 23/07/2024 22:28

Is there any chance that Aston might host focus groups and workshops on the topic. And that they might think of inviting MNetters?

If online, should MN attendees have gerbil avatars? Suffragette or Grievance?

It's OK Boiled, this one's for you: no beetles were de-winged in making this cloak - don't ask why I made it, or why I have this figurine, I just buy things like that and make things like this for the heck of itConfused

Have you IDed what they are, if not beetle wings?

Identify as grievance gerbils for the morning session and suffragette gerbils in the afternoon session! Maybe spend lunch being a dinosaur?

MarieDeGournay · 23/07/2024 23:48

Close! Pumpkin seeds.

Bugger, that's what I had in my head and just couldn't bring the word to the front of my mind. I knew they were from something big and round!

AstonVillains · 24/07/2024 07:27

Thanks for the update @GrimbutGerbil . I've quoted you over on the Corpus 2 thread, so that those knowlesswomen, unenlightened in the Way of the Gerbil can share the joy of the thought of Aston's Ethics Committee scrabbling round to sort out new guidance.

DeanElderberry · 24/07/2024 08:01

The images with dinosaurs and gerbils disturb me because they bring to mind that scene in Star Trek Enterprise when the Xindi reptilians toast some dastardly scheme (the destruction of planet Earth iirc) by holding up, and then swallowing, live mice. I suppose at least they didn't click the mice together first. But they reptiles versus mammals vibe was fierce (Archer got snitty).

I always assume when I'm Dean Volecape that despite massive provocation (eating the Deanery tulip bulbs) I don't actually skin the voles and turn them into a cape, I ask them to share it with me. Fur collar, but alive.

Thank you. I was on a train last night and tried to copy and paste and gave up because I was too tired and it wasn't working on GWR schonky wifi...
