Fabulous.

If there was one in my area I'd vote for them.

She is completely batshit. Check out her Twitter

Edited

I would cut her some slack. It's a very brave thing to do. If she comes over as a bit batty I think grief has a large part to play:

Because those who aren't on twitter cant read tweets, this is one:

seonaid Dawn barber
@SeonaidDawn

I'm so so scared for my daughter, 'he' in the thick of it and ostracised from the only person in the world who has her best interest at heart. #TabithaPleaseComeHome

(Edited to add I hope this electioneering want be to emotional for her - it is a lot to take on.)

That's so sad. She is very brave putting herself out there.

@IwantToRetire I ended up making a Twitter a/c just so I could read stuff, I don't post, or even go on unless it's to follow a link, but it's handy for stuff like tribunal tweets etc.

Oh dear. I hope Seonaid has some good support. I’ll contact her personally, I think.

I think some candidates are still looking for money to cover their deposits (not wanting to be pessimistic) which they lose if their total votes dont beat the % of total votes.

I found some on a web site with a strange name like Give Send Go

Or use the https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/ site as some, if not all, have short bios and how to contact them.

(I think I read somewhere - maybe facebook - that sometime next week the PoW web site will have round up.)

GiveSendGo ran their own anti-abortion crowdfunder and do not permit pro-choice fundraising. It's an interesting platform choice for a party claiming to represent women.

I'd hazard a guess they've chosen one that they won't be thrown off of. What do you expect them to do when all the "acceptable" platforms are hostile?

I get that, but you'd think crowdfunder.co.uk for example would delete the pages from her Liberty Place appeal if she was banned. Also the mainstream platforms seem ok with SDP (who have GC policies) and Reform (who are Reform) using them. I think it would be difficult to refuse to host an official political party, basically.

It doesn't claim to do anything apart from not cancel any campaign for wrong think.

IwantToRetire · 10/06/2024 17:54

Dont want to have inadvertently divert the discussion. Only some have used that platform (GiveSendGo) and others are using facebook etc (as mentioned above)

Its like some women (activists) have used citizengo even though it is (or was set up to be) about mobilising anti abortion campaigns.

Oddly enough I was out campaigning with a group of Labour activists at the weekend, one of whom showed us the newly released candidate list, including a POW candidate.

One member knew who they were, another didn't have the faintest idea. The candidate list for this constituency does look a bit People's Front of Judea with an awful lot of independents of various kinds

FOJN · 10/06/2024 22:03

Woo hoo I have a candidate to vote for. I won't be spoiling my ballot this year.

You should see how many parties there are for the FRENCH elections. About 18 in our area at the weekend.

Faffertea · 10/06/2024 22:58

I can’t believe there’s a candidate in my constituency! I won’t have to spoil my ballot!

IwantToRetire · 11/06/2024 01:29

On some ballot forms women might find the recently established “Party Of Women”, led by Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, who will offer a limited selection of candidates as a newly-formed single issue party, campaigning exclusively on Gender Critical Issues. Some have bemoaned how this will split the vote in areas where feminist Labour candidates are standing, but the fact is that we are in a political democracy and this is a legitimately formed party; as such Mrs Keen-Minshull is entitled to field candidates where she sees fit. Some feminists have questioned her motives, asking whether a vote for her is a vote for some of the views she has recently expressed on discriminatory practise, but women must be allowed to vote freely without being infantilised or harangued for doing so.

In the constituency referred to (not mine) there's the Worker's Party and the Worker's Revolutionary Party which might cause some confusion - plus 2 what are likely pro-Gaza candidates plus various anti-something Independents.

The current Labour MP is spending a lot of time campaigning in a neighbouring target seat so suspect the returns in their own seat are looking OK at the moment.

CyclingSam · 11/06/2024 13:48

As I mentioned, I've already got Julia to vote for, but this was interesting:
https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/person/80776/nigel-adam-jacklin
Another candidate who has pledged to protect single sex spaces and sports. Plus he's listed a favourite biscuit – Nairns Gluten Free. That would have me wavering, as we have a coeliac in the house, but I'd like to support the POW.
