Meanwhile in my constituency I have an independent candidate (female, Evangelical Christian) who's put out this statement:

What is the worst problem facing us today? I would suggest that it’s not our country’s finances, or our NHS waiting lists (though they are important). What is worse, is the suffering of the voiceless, defenceless people who are not protected: those not yet born. My aim in this election is to give people a chance to vote in favour of justice towards unborn people. We should all be able to enjoy equal protection under the law as human beings - whatever our age, gender, wealth, religion, ethnicity - and whether we are already born, or yet-to-be born. Let's think about these vulnerable yet valuable people, as you vote this year.

Sigh.

Most of the other candidates are from extreme left fringe parties and more interested in Gaza than anything else. The Green candidate is being investigated for anti-semitic remarks and rarely mentions the environment. Not much of a choice.

DOBARDAN · 09/06/2024 12:45

Heartening to see all the names and places on the list, although none are my area, but what an achievement for such a new party, in such a short space of time, just goes to show how all the dedication and hard work has paid off. Well done to all involved, I'm so proud of you

CyclingSam · 09/06/2024 13:35

I have a candidate! Julia Maria Long.

RubyTrees · 09/06/2024 13:38

Redshoeblueshoe · 08/06/2024 23:22

Julia Long - she would be bloody fabulous, wouldn't she be fantastic at PMQ's poor old Starmer would be bloody speechless, and then hopefully she would turn to camera and smile.

I can vote for her!

This has made me very very happy!

I'd vote for her.

So would I.

Floisme · 09/06/2024 15:48

I am ever so slightly disappointed that Julia Long isn't standing against Lisa Nandy. But I'll get over it. Respect to all those taking the plunge - it takes guts.

DrSpartacular · 09/06/2024 01:04

The other 5 are the candidates who stood in the local elections, it's a cumulative total per party.

Sorry and thanks, particularly as you (or someone else) had pointed this out to me on the other thread) Blush

Where is KJK herself standing?

Didn't you read the OP?

That is the whole point of this thread having in one place a clear list where there are candidates from PoW!!!!

OP posts:
IwantToRetire · 09/06/2024 19:33

I think some candidates are still looking for money to cover their deposits (not wanting to be pessimistic) which they lose if their total votes dont beat the % of total votes.

I found some on a web site with a strange name like Give Send Go

Or use the https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/ site as some, if not all, have short bios and how to contact them.

(I think I read somewhere - maybe facebook - that sometime next week the PoW web site will have round up.)

This is a bit nerdy maybe, but might be of interest.

Number of Candidates per Party

No ... Party
663 ... Conservatives
655 ... Liberal Democrats
612 ... Reform
607 ... Labour Party
600 ... Green Party
475 ... Independent / Individuals inc. former Labour MPs etc
155 ... Workers Party of Britain
122 ... Social Democratic
. 57 ... SNP
. 44 ... Scottish Greens
. 42 ... TU & Socialist
. 41 ... Heritage Party
. 32 ... Plaid Cymru
. 26 ... Rejoin UK
. 25 ... UKIP
. 22 ... Monster Raving Loony Party
. 19 ... Alba
. 18 ... Alliance NI
. 18 ... SDLP
. 17 ... Ulster Unionist
. 16 ... DUP
. 16 ... Party of Women
. 14 ... Communist Party GB
. 14 ... Sinn Féin
. 12 ... Liberal Party
. . 4 ... Women's Equality Party

So for instance Party of Women has as many candidates as some paarties (particularly NI) where they have huge influence, as does the SNP.

And who or what is the Workers Party of Britain?

And the Heritage Party?

(edited to add this isn't all parties standing, there are many with 1 or 2 candidates, but it was getting late and my eyes were saying no, stop now!)

Workers Party is Galloway’s merry band

I don’t understand your point about the NI psrties

IwantToRetire · 09/06/2024 20:15

Workers Party is Galloway’s merry band

Oh no! Not sure why but I thought he was standing as an independent, but cant say I follow his doings and saying that closely.

I don’t understand your point about the NI psrties

Sorry - not explained very well - and realise this list is about the UK wide Parliament. So not really directly connected but within NI what could be said to be small in numbers, has a huge influence.

If only the small number of POW had an area of the UK where they could be the decision makers.

borntobequiet · 09/06/2024 20:59

My local POW candidate’s statement - which may have been added by someone else - is misspelt, the grammar and punctuation is poor, and it’s weirdly formatted. Quite frankly, it makes her look batshit. This is a shame. Obviously I will vote for her anyway, but I hope she doesn’t come over like this in the hustings.
(West Worcestershire.)

nearlysummerhooray · 09/06/2024 20:59

Ooh ooh ooh my constituency is there!

IamAporcupine · 09/06/2024 20:59

Wow, there is a candidate in my area!

@SinnerBoy - do you know anything else about Kelly Jane Oliver Dougall? I must admit I do not know her

I've only seen her crowdfunding statement and it looks fine, some odd grammatical choices at times, but it's not awful!

BingBongSong · 09/06/2024 21:58

I really wish I could vote for Julia Long.

OldCrone · 09/06/2024 22:02

KJK's statement is currently her wikipedia page. Presumably added by someone else.
