Will the AI think the Farrage usernames are actually fans of his? and possibly even his wife?????

DrTWETMIRF · 23/04/2024 09:36

I wonder if the Spartacus thread has been analysed and what the software made of it

Don't forget that AI is terrible with hands.

It's going to fuck up somehow

I thought that had been deleted?

ArabellaScott · 23/04/2024 09:37

Nigel Farrage has many wives.

But all your Nick Caves are belong to me.

ArabellaScott · 23/04/2024 09:38

WarriorNonVerbalHateCrime · 23/04/2024 09:37

Could be it lives on in an airgapped server in Aston University's staffroom. I bet it still makes a lot of noise. Maybe they have to keep a cover over it, like a budgie cage.

DrTWETMIRF · 23/04/2024 09:38

I see what you did there Arabella.

I didn't realise that Spartacus had gone, before or after scraping?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/04/2024 09:42

ArabellaScott · 23/04/2024 08:39

https://hatespeechdata.com/

They've done a lot of Twitter scraping, too, by the look of it.

Recommend looking at the collection of pdf papers you can access here that @ArabellaScott posted. Some of the classifications of "hate speech" by other researchers (I don't think they necessarily are linked to the Aston ones) appear to be as all encompassing as you might expect. They don't limit themselves to slurs and violent threats.

JoyousAsOtters · 23/04/2024 09:43

@PhDinaseive it's Jilly Cooper, I have loved Rivals and Polo since I was a teenager. Plus I am an academic and I read a lot of very worthy texts, I like having a range and can’t bear the sneering at popular culture that goes on, I occasionally whip a Jilly out in the post-grads’ lounge to confound people.

WarriorNonVerbalHateCrime · 23/04/2024 09:43
Grin

I can't remember probably, maybe it came back escaped through the chimney?

I feel like there was some outrage as TRAs had been using the rules to get old thread deleted

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/04/2024 09:45

Anyway, feels fitting to end this post with on a food note. Does anyone really like Weetabix banana mush?

One gentle soul did, but sadly she is no longer here (she is alive and well in exile though!)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/04/2024 09:46

Ha @JoyousAsOtters I love JC too but missed the reference! OG in the 70s/80s/90s rather than the newer ones.

DrTWETMIRF · 23/04/2024 09:48

Weetabix should be eaten on its own, straight out of the packet. Butter and/or jam can be spread if you like bit nothing else. Banana is not edible in any way and should not be mentioned around food

I am wondering why the decision to anonymise the other forums and yet name Mumsnet in that presentation shot on the other thread. This definitely needs to be followed up.

I'm guessing the answer is: misogyny.

I have a proposal for a PhD thesis at the University of Mumsnet (slightly better than other universities because if you spout total bollocks you will get peer reviewed and the bollocks pointed out by sane forum users, also cheaper).

An analysis of the Aston University appropriation/ stealing / data scraping of women's words. Are Aston university research staff allowed to call hundreds or thousands of women and mothers bigots for knowing about scientific reality? Analysis of whether and why data taken from a forum for predominantly women (a sex class, which is a protected characteristic) is treated differently to all other datasets held at Aston. Further analysis of whether the apparently summary judgement of hundreds of forum users (by applying blanket terms such as 'transphobic' to a huge talk forum) is reasonable, within the law, and academically ethical / rigorous.

I nominate @AlisonDonut and @Boiledbeetle as my co-supervisors if they are available.

@Dumbledoreslemonsherbets, in the interests of transparency, accountability and otherwise jolly good practice, I think you need to confirm that you, @AlisonDonut and @Boiledbeetle are not all the same person if they are to be your supervisors.

And @AlisonDonut and @Boiledbeetle, you should probably testify to the fact that you are:
a) different women,
b) not being bribed financially by anyone, and
c) have no commercial interests in @Dumbledoreslemonsherbets'project.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/04/2024 09:51

Do we know if they accessed our real names in the database or by other means though? We need to know.

My thought is that getting this information directly from MN would involve out and out illegal hacking, rather than scraping a public web forum.

Plus due to previous hacking by MRAs and the intern doxxing a lot of us have anon email addresses on file.

😱

Jeez the last one looks like something my kids would make for a Roblox avatar.

Rather sadly, before all of this shit - that MA in Forensic Linguistics looked really really fucking interesting! (as does the paper analysing hate emojis... but I'm a sad linguistics geek)

DrTWETMIRF · 23/04/2024 09:53

I took my real details out and put dummy ones in after Jeffrey. My email was a throwaway one that I don't have access to anymore as it expired from not being accessed.

You are clearly me. With a different username. That’ll confound ‘em!

sad linguistics geek
sounds like another phrase for
MN expert witness
thats a potentially very useful qualification on these boards

Jam? Jam? Heavens forbid! Everyone knows that you eat weetabix with butter and marmite!

Jam! FFS! Heathen!

Damn. Falling at the hurdle of all the extreme right wing money we receive.

Gagagardener · 23/04/2024 09:56

Oops! Where are my manners? I want to say a big thank you to @VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia for starting the new thread, and an even bigger one to @IwantToRetire for setting the ball rolling. Tries for a clever play on words, but ball(sup) looks so wrong! (Edited because I could.)

SqueakyDinosaur · 23/04/2024 10:00

Just got an email from Aston. The seminar's been cancelled "due to illness".

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 23/04/2024 10:00

Caramel wafers? Now you're talking @RainWithSunnySpells. What's with the plethora of Caves? Did I miss something? What is the collective noun for a gathering of Nick Caves? A red hand? A quiff? A Nocturama?

StephanieSuperpowers · 23/04/2024 10:00

Sick as a parrot, I imagine.
