I loved some of his older videos about Brexit and the Tories, but there are a lot of people I felt talked a lot of sense about other political issues whose brains just turn to mush when it comes to gender. I'm delighted to see Jonathan Pie isn't ignoring the gender issue and hoping it'll go away like so many other political commentators.

JKR is already a step ahead. She posted on twitter:

I hope every woman in Scotland who wishes to speak up for the reality and importance of biological sex will be reassured by this announcement, and I trust that all women - irrespective of profile or financial means - will be treated equally under the law. If they go after any woman for simply calling a man a man, I'll repeat that woman's words and they can charge us both at once.

I'm still playing catch up but just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of admiration and love for JKR!

I'm totally convinced she sent that tweet about Willoughby to set this whole thing in motion. At the time I thought what's she talking about IW for, IW is not worthy of her time or attention and IW will love this. Just ignore the melt.

But it set this whole thing in motion .. if it was a plot to one of her books you'd think it was too far fetched in its perfection.

And if that someone was also desperate for JKRs attention and was itching to report the nasty lady for calling them hurty words all the better for the plan to work.

I'm sure she had loads to choose from, but only a few will have tweeted the right things at the right moments in time and could be guaranteed to react in a totally OTT self absorbed way.

And we all know who the lucky person was!

Plus although they have missed out sex, they have added "gender identity", which is not a protected characteristic under the Equality Act. (Gender reassignment is)

I agree that JKR had all this planned. There was a reason she ignored Willoughby for ages and then turned her attention to them. Willoughby walked straight into the trap she set.

You only have to read her books to see how complicated her mind is, and how capable she is of thinking several moves ahead - she's like a chess grandmaster.

To protect sex you have to define it.

Hm, inclined to think that may be more (or at least double whammy) of making this a blasphemy law. Protecting religion rather than 'religion or belief' sounds like privileging religious people and discrimination against atheists/anyone without an actual religious affiliation.

I'd like to see a high profile non-religious person or two following JKRs example to test this.
