I used to love Prisoner Cell Block H.

What has Sir Keir said? Scottish Labour voted for the bill

Waitwhat23 · 02/04/2024 09:39

There's some humour in seeing a number of men on various platforms saying 'JKR, you're just attention seeking with Police Scotland!'. It hasn't even entered their heads what a blinder she has played.

IcakethereforeIam · 02/04/2024 09:40

https://archive.ph/iISNw perhaps the other side of the paywall is the place for blushes

I'm minded to sympathise with her but ffs! I thinking in a few months (days) if we'll be able to find anyone who supported this Bill. Or if they'll all be saying 'i only voted for it because I thought everyone else did'. Maybe Patrick Harvie.

I backed the hate crime bill once – now I side with its opponents

A chilling effect has begun with the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act that I helped through Holyrood

The author of this demonstration an absence of the ability to comprehend the written word is no barrier to academic success really hasn’t grounds to talk about how JKR tweets. I mean, policing her language is generally not on; but in this specific instance, after making an absolute holy show of lawyerself at a Congressional hearing where they were meant to be speaking as a cybersecurity expert, it’s the rankest hypocrisy & then some.

Even the ever disappointing Val McDermid has decided that this is Not A Good Thing.

indeed, because anyone with half a brain, regardless of their views on gender identity/ideology should recognise that this a really terrible piece of legislation

I used to love Prisoner Cell Block H.

Life is tough here in biological facts sticker jail. They’re weaning me off stickers with small bits of sellotape, one inch per day. One day I may be part of society again. At night though I still hear the screams of my victims, and my hands itch for novelty adhesives.
I write this from jail. My cellie is in for putting up a “humans are mammals” sticker. Big Val across the hall was caught in possession of a “People have opposable thumbs” decal, which finished off a family of five. Me? I’m here because of the pink penis caper. Hundreds died. [2018]

I'm a bit confused as I have been listening to both BBC News and LBC news on a trip down South.
A couple of news reports, which I'm pretty sure were BBC, said that the hate crime law included sex as a category.
But BBC news online reports excludes sex as a category, and other reports explain that that's 'coming soon'.
Anyone got a clip from BBC News which includes 'sex' as a category included in the new Hate Crime Act?

Yesterday's BBC six o'clock news item on this was poorly researched and executed.

They neded to explain to a largely oblivious/ignorant public what the protected categories in the equality act actually are. They didn't .

For a start 'Sex' is one of them, and 'Gender Identity' is not even a protected category - 'Gender Re-asignment' is.The addition of 'Inter-sex' is just crazy. Nobody would know who has an intersex condition and who hasn't.....You may as well have 'skin conditions' as a protected characteristic - since skin conditions make might you more prone to unkind comments or bullying, more so than inter-sex.

The whole thing is so transparently rooted in gender ideology. It is a complete and utter farce.

When are the Scottish Daily Mail editorial team booked in with their appointment with the police?

Or is it only women that these activitists are interested in seeing the police arrest?

So nothing unusual then.

I await the calls for Sopan Deb to be extradited to Scotland.

Here's a good, pithy article from my beloved Morning Star yesterday ('for peace and socialism' ✌), by Matt Kerr.

Interesting quote from Humza Yousaf at the end, apparently distancing himself as the political architect and creator of this crap law:

'First Minister Humza Yousaf responded to questions on the enforcement of the legislation.

'He said: “It is not ‘Twitter police,’ it is not activists, it is not the media, it is not, thank goodness, even politicians who decide ultimately whether or not a crime has been committed.

' "It will be the police who investigate and the crown" ...'

If you look for R4's PM, the 5.30pm bulletin refers to "sex" as a category that's included - hopefully shouldn't be too hard to find.

Iamnotalemming · 02/04/2024 09:54

I've found it quite an uplifting experience reading this thread. Still surprises me how often people completely miss the point.

Love JKR.

I read the original full tweet to DH last night and he said 'well she's got my vote'.

Flowersto everyone who shared their personal experiences here. I don't want to share women's only spaces with men either.

Oh, and I also never travel anywhere without a pair of tweezers.

Yes, this law, apparently, directly is at odds with America 1st amendment(?) on free speech. Scotland's Clype's Charter polices the entire world.

Sweet lord, even after all these years, that is either THE most disingenuous piece of sh!thousery, or, and this is more worrying, this person is giving opinions when they have the reading comprehension of a pickled walnut. But thanks to the last 6-8 years I honestly can't say which it is.

It's Humza Yousaf - Scotland's First Minister. I believe he was using a scooter after rupturing his achilles heel.

I'm inclined to find it a bit mean spirited tbh. It's played or referred to constantly.

Lovely work on the paywall intro again

Ash Regan's reversing a ferret.

I wouldn't call this reverse-ferreting because IMO, key to the concept of reverse-ferreting is that the ferret does not admit to having changed its position.

It's a good article and a refreshing read - and quite instructive as to the tactics used by TRAs and their allies to get their way.

I've carried tweezers in my handbag for over a decade, mostly to deal with splinters.

My single chin hair grows so fast and long that I can pluck it with my fingers, no need for tweezers #stealthboast 😉
