Sara Morrison vs Belfast Film Festival

Employers seem to be slow learners when it comes to women's rights! There’s another employment tribunal case being brought by a woman who attended and took the microphone at a Let Women Speak event in Belfast last year and has been treated very badly by her employer Belfast Film Festival as a result.

Looks like we’re going to have to keep gardening until they get the message.

disclaimer. I don’t know Sara and have no connection to BFF I’m just a woman who likes donating to causes that make a difference

MC my problem is her actions - not what she said "speaking in such an extremist context" - if she was going to stand by those actions we couldn't have an inclusion officer doing that. But the idea we were trying to move her out is "rubbish"

Murder She Wrote Popcorn GIF

So what else does if she was going to stand by those actions we couldn't have an inclusion officer doing that mean?

Keep digging, Mark. The damages are increasing with every word.

I notice NC is not questioning his interpretation of LWS as definitely and deliberately right wing and hateful, rather than a completely open mic affair which doesn't censor speakers.
I'm sure she's right!

I suppose when you live in a world where you can define words to mean what you want them to mean, anything is possible.

If she refused to apologise profusely for saying the truth and wouldn't vow to forever more worship at the altar of trans we could no longer let her do her job. But of course that didn't mean we'd fire her?

Really? Are you sure?

Thank you yet again Myrtle, and I hope you're using the break to make a nice hot cup of tea, and drinking it before it goes coldBrewSmile

I’m still flabbergasted that he said out loud and in courtroom that saying ‘I stand up for women’s rights’ means you are on the right and pretty much aligned with Mussolini and, after that, then go on to call yourself femininst but, of course, a better feminist than one who would say ‘I stand up for women’s rights.’

Thank you.

I wish you hadn't posted that GIF, Myrtle, the footwork is fascinating me and I fear I may have to stand up and try to copy it.
And somebody might look in the window and see me doing it😧
I can't make out if it is a curtsey or a bow, or is non-binary??

I searched for curtsy and ruled out Drew Barrymore because she was sycophantic to Dylan Mulvaney.

Edited

Of course he's a better feminist, he's one of those male feminists on the right side of history who think a man can utter four words and instantly become a woman. Whereas actual women who know that's incorrect must be far right, slow of thinking, imbeciles that need re-educating

Last night's took a mere five hours to pull together so they don't tend to come through till quite late, but I did a quick straw poll at the end of it and responses suggest most people prefer a comprehensive write up delivered late to a quick report on the whistle.

[we're back]
NC you said you wanted to pause encounters between groups SM criticised and those groups - that was a pretty sensible idea in the circs
MC imo yes
NC let everything die down
MC let us investigate
NC but don't inflame things
MC that was my opinion, yes

NC - MD's next move was the 3 July email - the email to the LGBTQ crown cc-ing SM including Alliance for Choice - that was one of the groups SM had mentioned in her speech. So this was an email just a few weeks later - what do you think of what MD did given you wanted to pause...

... encounters.
MC I'm a board member - but I heard yesterday something about SM agreeing to it
NC it was extraordinarily ill judged - at best
MC it was an attempt and bridge building and attempt at repair work
NC it didn't go well
MC you can't predict outcomes all the time
NC any fool could have seen this was poking a hornet's nest
MC well maybe I'm a fool then because I've just said I thought it was a bridge building exercise

NC it was obvious this email was going to poke up the hornet's nest - she at first damped things down it did all go quiet and then she sends out this email on 3 July - that was step 1 in the implementation of the "acceleration of the process" that you had called for on 25 June?

MC absolutely not
[go to par 12 of MC's WS]
"I don't understand why she could no-
foresee that, by associating herself with people who have said oppressive things, there would be a reaction "
NC that's a criticism
MC it's bewilderment

Largesso · 13/11/2025 12:40

I think MC thinks because he didn’t say or write the actual words ‘we must get rid of her’ that no one can accuse him of actually plotting to get rid of her but it is quite clear je is agitating for that whatever he has convinced himself of. What I find particularly revolve is that when Sara tried to speak to him at the pub he didn’t just shut her down he tittle-tattled to MD about it. There is clear evidence he was agitating and thinking that framing everything as being with love covered his arse.

You don't think they deliberately asked SM to work with those groups so.they could get evidence to dismiss discipline her, do you?

Surely they would not be that stupid?
