Jamie Wallis Transgender MP not standin

Jamie Wallis, the transgender Tory MP for Bridgend, will not be standing in the licality at the next election.

In the BBC News story he says irs because of boundary changes. I'm sure we all believe him.

He"ll be trying to stand in a constituency outside Wales. One quote might give is a clue - "Certain communities congregate in certain areas of the country. So, it does make sense to look at other places".

So... Brighton? A constituency containing predominately university students?

I doubt Brighton would vote Tory, whatever his “gender”.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/10/2023 17:49

He (or possibly she, I’m not sure how far Jamie has got in ‘working towards being trans’ ) is not very popular in the constituency since the telegraph pole incident.

ihatesonic · 22/10/2023 17:49

I hope not for their sake. As someone in his current constituency, he is an utterly useless MP.

titchy · 22/10/2023 17:51

'Boundary changes' - is that what they're calling it these days?

JellySaurus · 22/10/2023 17:53

Changing people's boundaries - that's what it is.

What happened?

"He (or possibly she, I’m not sure how far Jamie has got in ‘working towards being trans’..."

The BBC uses 'he' and they're unfailing in using preferred pronouns.

Quite how Bridgend - a solid Labour seat usually - voted in a Tory is a mystery tied up with Brexit, hysteria around immigration and all the issues at the last election. I certainly didn't vote for him and he has done nothing for us. He's a joke, though not a funny one. Quoted in the local press as looking for a constituency where people 'have a sense of humour'.

I’ve lost track but could there be a run off between Izzard and Wallis in Brighton?

Certain running rules required..

Ooh, I'll need something to settle my queasy stomach.

tiredofbeingadmired · 22/10/2023 18:26

He seems to be a deeply troubled and troubling man so I think it's a good thing he's stepping back.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/10/2023 18:43

He's married with children isn't he? All the best to his family, they must have been put through the wringer.

With other parties standing down to ensure the election of a trans MP?

Interesting idea.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/10/2023 18:50

Whose Tory MP is stepping down at the GE? He could be coming to a Conservative seat near you.😆

SiobhanSharpe · 22/10/2023 18:52

Is Eddie Izzard considering standing again? If so do we know which constituency.

Izzard wants to stand in the Brighton Pavilion constituency.

He's not stepping back . He's looking for a new constituency.

catduckgoose · 22/10/2023 19:52

So he's male, he wants people to refer to him as a man, yet he's somehow 'transgender'? What?

OldCrone · 22/10/2023 20:07

Notcookie · 22/10/2023 17:54

What happened?

He crashed his car into a telegraph pole while wearing a leather mini skirt and high heels. He abandoned his car and fled the scene.

Shortly after this incident he announced that he 'wanted to be transgender'.

Oh what a shame. A white male MP standing down will make parliament so much less diverse.

He's not standing down.

He's looking for another constituency to stand in. Preferably, it seems, where "Certain communities congregate".

Oh. Somewhere voters are a bit more blue haired then? (And not in the blue rinse sense?)

I don't think I'd bother if I were him. Those kind of people don't vote Tory.

Chersfrozenface · 22/10/2023 20:39

Even the BBC covered Jamie Wallis' connection with a dubious website.
