Jamie Wallis Transgender MP not standin

Chersfrozenface · 22/10/2023 17:47

Jamie Wallis, the transgender Tory MP for Bridgend, will not be standing in the licality at the next election.

In the BBC News story he says irs because of boundary changes. I'm sure we all believe him.

He"ll be trying to stand in a constituency outside Wales. One quote might give is a clue - "Certain communities congregate in certain areas of the country. So, it does make sense to look at other places".

So... Brighton? A constituency containing predominately university students?

So could it really be a choice between Wallis and Izzard? With Lucas standing down. Surely an independent could win?

Well, Izzard and Walls would have to be selected by the relevant constituency party first.

FYI, those vying to be the Green Party candidate at the next election are Siân Berry, Emily O’Brien and Dan Rue.

Sian Berry is a virulent gender ideologue. Someone on here may know more about the others.

Are you sure it's Dan la Rue and not Danny la Rue? 😉

It's all in the BBC story, but yes, there were pearls.

[A witness] said he looked inside the car and saw "a white male wearing a white long-sleeve top which was tight to the body, a black leather PVC mini-skirt, tights, dark shoes with a high heel and a pearl necklace".

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 23/10/2023 00:00

@Biscofffan - he says he's 'actively seeking a seat elsewhere, but I'm doing so with a sense of humour and a philosophical view' - not that his constituents don't have a sense of humour!

You probably wouldn’t want to be clutching Jamie’s pearls.

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/10/2023 00:36

He's been growing his hair and has many more months as a Conservative MP ahead of him. I bet we'll get the pleasure of seeing him turn up to the HoC in his best twinset and pearls before he fucks off.

Maybe he’ll want to muscle in on all those media talking-head jobs. A nice little discussion panel gig. Questiontime with Fiona Bruce. The new ‘gender identity’ expert on Country File.

India Willoughby may have some incoming competition.

zanahoria · 23/10/2023 08:13

He will probably show up again with a plum job at Stonewall or modelling sports bras

Barrythetimesprout · 23/10/2023 08:25

That'll be the same Jamie Wallis who ran a sugar daddy website?
I realise the qualification to be a Tory MP has a pretty low bar (corrupt, liar, self serving, amoral) but even by Tory standards Wallis stands out.

JellySaurus · 22/10/2023 17:53

Changing people's boundaries - that's what it is.

👏👏👏

Brighton Pavilion will be a hard seat to win. I think Caroline Lucas attracted votes from Labour and the Lib Dems.

Jamie would be better off trying to get nominated in the City of London. Or isn't Crispin retiring?

RoyalCorgi · 23/10/2023 08:59

Unless something dramatic happens - which it might, of course; things move fast in politics - the Tories are heading for annihilation at the next general election. Even Jeremy Hunt is rumoured to be standing down because he's not confident of being elected after the constituency boundaries are drawn.

I think Wallis's chances of being selected as a candidate in a winnable Conservative seat are next to non-existent. I can't imagine he'd even want to be a candidate in Brighton where there is no prospect at all of a Conservative winning.

MargotBamborough · 23/10/2023 09:49

Does anybody else wonder whether the whole Jamie Wallis thing is just trolling?

He's male, presents as male, uses he/him pronouns and is a heterosexual married father of two. But he's also the UK's first openly transgender MP?

Huh??

Are we sure this isn't just a Tory joke at Labour's expense?

RoyalCorgi · 23/10/2023 09:52

Wallis is definitely trolling. He's just an old-fashioned transvestite who gets a sexual kick out of dressing in skirt and heels. Probably he thought that saying he was transgender would get him a lighter sentence after he drove into a lamp post and fled the scene.

Having said that, Stonewall includes cross-dressers in its definition of "transgender", in which case he's just as much transgender as Jan Morris or April Ashley or any other man who's had surgery and presents as female.

MargotBamborough · 23/10/2023 10:08

In which case he's trolling Stonewall as well.

Stonewall appear to want the definition of transgender to include men who cross dress, but I'm not so sure they want the general public to realise that these people are included.

It doesn't really fit with the "completely harmless, most vulnerable, just need to pee" narrative if you are including a man who crashed his car into a tree whilst wearing high heels and a mini skirt, probably under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Jamie Wallis is almost as much of a problem for them as Isla Bryson.

ArabellaScott · 23/10/2023 10:15

Jamie Wallis is just as much a transwoman as Eddie Izzard, or any other transwoman.

On this subject I am 100% in agreement with Stonewall. Acceptance without exception.

One cannot grant or deny a man 'transness' based on his morality.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/10/2023 10:22

Yes, he said the magic words, and that's all that's required. Acceptance without exception, after all! One of the things that sets trans people apart as a superior class is that they are all, by definition, totally honest and have complete self-knowledge. We lesser beings should be suitably respectful and grateful for having this class telling us what's what, especially us support humans, i.e. the non-men.

I don't think it's a coincidence that he announced that he "wants to be trans" just after this incident.

OldCrone · 23/10/2023 10:47

Stonewall appear to want the definition of transgender to include men who cross dress, but I'm not so sure they want the general public to realise that these people are included.

The strategy used by Press for Change, when campaigning for the GRA, was exactly that. The idea was to blur the boundaries between transvestite and transsexual, but not be too open about it. This is from Pressing Matters by Christine Burns of Press for Change:

‘Our successes as a campaign were grounded in progress made for people who fitted the clinical definition of transsexual. At the heart of this was a tacit understanding that people in positions of power might be persuaded to change laws for people with some kind of clinically underwritten status – something they couldn’t help being.

‘We knew in our hearts at that time that policymakers and judges weren’t yet sophisticated enough in their understanding to contemplate rights for people whose difference appeared self-identified or impermanent or maybe even optional. That didn’t mean we weren’t going to try where possible. There was a valid freedom of expression case to be made for people to be able to present in whatever way they wish. But we were also pragmatists, careful not to frighten the horses at this early stage.

The Trans Umbrella Is Older Than You Think

Years ago I was a ‘trans ally’. I thought ‘trans’ meant transsexual and my idea of a ‘trans woman’ was someone who had had genital surgery and was quietly going …

Iirc correctly the Tories weren't expecting to win Wallis's seat and he was a 'oh, fuck it, he'll do candidate'. The thought of him being put up again in a different, especially winnable, seat is laughable. He's likely trying to save face, trolling or delusional.

RoyalCorgi · 23/10/2023 11:03

I don't think it's a coincidence that he announced that he "wants to be trans" just after this incident.

Neither do I. But what continues to stagger me is the stupidity. So many MPs, Labour and Tory, congratulated him on his bravery on coming out as trans, even though a moderately intelligent 8-year old could tell he was taking the piss. I mean, these are our elected representatives.

Also re Margot's point about him trolling Stonewall: they must also be unbelievably dim if they didn't realise that claiming that cross-dressers are legitimately trans would come back to bite them on the arse.

Wtf is wrong with these people?
