Harriet Harman says women are women, or men who are 'certified' women.

'There's a question of what is a woman and what is a man. But I would say a woman is someone who is born a woman or someone who under the GRA 2004 is certified as having transitioned from a man to a woman'.
...
'I support the GRA and don't want to see it rolled back. We brought it forward for a very good reason'.

Harriet Harman, at the Fawcett Society event.

Thank you, Julia Long, for asking the question.

Labour can fuck all the way off with this shit, and when they get there, I suggest that they come back, so that they cab fuck off again.

They are the architects of this abominable piece of legislation, and are determined to make it even worse. Fuck. All the way. Off.

Well, Starmer claims you women never say anything on the doorstep, so he has no idea any women would have any issues with any of this.

Can you blame him?

Or the party has instructed canvassers not to mention it coming up on doorsteps to anyone higher up in the organusation.

Or he's lying.

Both valid possibilities.

piesforever · 15/10/2023 18:47

Oh get a life, there's actually issues out there that affect people.

Don't you mean look for tractors?

That was Mr Harman?!

That was Mr Harman?!

Nope, a naughty Tory. But it's kind of the going euphemism.
Web searches: boobs, bums...tractors.

caringcarer · 15/10/2023 17:36

This. She used to be my MP and she was really useless on local issues and her DH at the time tried to claim tax payer money to watch porn, as in a business expense.

I knew about Jaquie Smith but hadn't heard about HH and I would question if that's accurate.

Bunpea · 15/10/2023 18:58

I won’t be voting Labour then.
This is disappointing on just about every level.

HH is a woman and a mother. She knows better than this.

piesforever · 15/10/2023 18:47

Oh get a life, there's actually issues out there that affect people.

So, for example, rape crisis centres that won't cater for women isn't a real issue and women are not people?
Are you naturally this much of a bigot or did you practice?

Sorry, I think I've mixed them up.

There's a few of us here, don't you mean "get lives"?

Women and children not 'people' in your book then?

MargotBamborough · 15/10/2023 19:26

I'd like to ask Harriet Harman what women who were born women have in common with men who have been "certified women".

AutumnCrow · 15/10/2023 19:27

"Where a State has authorised the treatment and surgery alleviating the condition of a transsexual, financed or assisted in financing the operations and indeed permits the artificial insemination of a woman living with a female-to-male transsexual (as demonstrated in the case of X., Y. and Z. v. the United Kingdom, cited above), it appears illogical to refuse to recognise the legal implications of the result to which the treatment leads."

[Quoted by @PorcelinaV from the Godwin case.]

This is just utter legal gobshite, isn't it? God help us all if this isn't repealed and this thinking isn't challenged. Otherwise we may as well base social policy on the power of images in the Regency period.

Women are people too you know, although that may not have occurred to you.

No need to wait, I can tell you, just what she said...everything.

Women, now both biological, and transactional/legal.

Yep, reality and a piece of paper, which to add insult to injury, will never even have to be produced.

That's it, a century since you got the vote. And a few decades of progress re equality. And now you're due the ultimate equality. Equality wielded by pen on paper.

Pudmyboy · 15/10/2023 20:38

AutumnCrow · 15/10/2023 14:23

Knew it.

The Labour Party's definition of a woman is 'legal woman', i.e. can be a man.

Yep this was my suspicion too, means they cannot be trusted when they say they support women at all , won't believe they support women till they say a woman is an adult human female.
Actually probably won't believe them then either, the shifty snakes.

Pudmyboy · 15/10/2023 20:43

piesforever · 15/10/2023 18:47

Oh get a life, there's actually issues out there that affect people.

I have a life, as an adult human female, and want to help protect other (juvenile and adult) human females aka people from the erosion of hard won rights and safe spaces. So quite a busy and full life really

Ramblingnamechanger · 15/10/2023 21:01

Thank you Julia. Let’s all be more Julia and ask these questions and get them to clarify / justify it whenever they come up up with this bullshit. It will never be acceptable and it is not a compromise.

AutumnCrow · 15/10/2023 21:44

So I'm back to pushing my Labour MP to confirm or deny that his Party will define women as adult human females who are the XX chromosomal sex

(including women with DSDs that can only affect women)

(and the equivalent for girls)

I suspect he thinks that Labour has a get-out clause for everything under the Equality Act 2010. Maybe so - but for fuck's sake man be up front about it and say what it is and say the words out loud. And stop hiding behind Anneliese Dodds and HH.

No way will any Labour MP go as far as XX or female DSD. All you get is "adult female".
And as we heard from HH today, adult females are women and individuals with a GRC.

I truly believe this is as "good" as you'll get.

Feministwoman · 15/10/2023 22:08

Hasn't said anything to support Rosie Duffield though, has she?

There has been nothing of which I'm aware.
