Apologies if this has already been covered. I couldn't see it mentioned anywhere. Is there any possible justification for this? I can't imagine any. Here's an extract from the attached article.

The city of Berlin has prompted outrage from locals after offering a graphic picture book on prostitution to children via its official website. The book, titled Rosie Needs Money (Rosi sucht Geld), is advertised as a resource for youth aged 6 to 12 years old.
According to Equal Opportunities Officer Kerstin Drobick, the book is designed to explain prostitution to children of families residing in a red-light district of Berlin, located in Kurfürstenkiez, known as Kurfürstenstraße. ...

Rosie Needs Money is written from the perspective of a child named Maryam, whose family relocated to Germany from Syria.
Maryam narrates as she and her equally-young schoolmate, Martin, look for Rosie, a woman from Bulgaria who is in the sex trade. Maryam says that her mother told her that Rosie is often “looking for money” in the street. Rosie is described as having many friends who are also migrant women from Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, and Lithuania.
“But they don’t seem to find much money. Their clothes are not enough. Their breasts and legs must freeze in winter,” observes Maryam. “Today we decided to finally ask Rosie what she does with men. Actually, we already know. They give her money and want to make love.”
Martin then appears to reference pornography, saying: “It’s different from mom and dad. Mom makes love to dad, but Rosie’s men don’t make love, they make sex like on TV.”
In the book, Rosie suggests that men use prostitutes due to lonliness, and advertises the sex trade as a legitimate and important field.
“You want to know what this has to do with love and sex? Everyone acts as if love and sex are always the same. Men say this to me and to their wives at home. But sometimes love is gone. Or the sex. That’s why my customers just want to talk to me and they give me money in return,” Rosie tells the children, before explaining how she has sex with clients in a flippant way.
“Most of the time it’s like this: Men want to put their penis in my vagina. A few times in and a few times out – and you’re done. There’s nothing more to it than that.”

Well, words fail me. It's shitty and awful from every whichway you look at it, but imagine you'd 'relocated', as your quote says, OP, from Syria - you'd think you'd landed in hell. I would anyway, and I imagine these people who've 'relocated' to find themselves living in hell (again) are mainly refugees.

Youth aged 6-12, huh? Those are people most of us call children.

fedupandstuck · 27/09/2023 12:58

It's frightening to think that there are adults involved in the local govt of this area that commissioned this and think there is nothing wrong with it.

I find the child-created illustrations of prostitutes and sex acts to be deeply disturbing, I can't believe that even in Germany it is legal to get children to draw images like this, let alone publish them.

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2023 13:09

Absolutely fucking appalling.

This is CSA.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/09/2023 13:15

If I wanted to be charitable, I'd say there may be translation issues around that word 'youth', but I'm not feeling charitable. These are children, and yes, it is indeed child sexual abuse.

Sorry. Are there sex acts on television that children are watching? Excuse my ignorance, I live in Mexico and don't have a television

Filth

There shouldn't be. A tweet I saw on this subject said that form of words suggests the writers decided Martin, a child of 12 or under, would have seen his parents watching porn together. So that's a whole other form of abuse being normalised.

Surely this book is grooming vulnerable immigrant girls into a prostitution?

even if not intended that way, it’s going to have that effect?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 27/09/2023 14:50

This constitutes grooming young children surely?
Isn't it depressing how many adults with predatory values can access resources to try to influence children like this. So fucking offensive and dangerous.

Villagetoraiseachild · 27/09/2023 14:52

I can fully comprehend the local people's outrage.
Kids should not be subjected to this ill conceived crap.

sockarefootwear · 27/09/2023 14:59

Summary of messages here:

  • To immigrant children- you are wrong to feel unhappy at the idea of having sex for money. It's all fine, so don't complain if you find it difficult to get a job that pays enough to live- just sell yourself on the streets. By the way, this is exactly the sort of work that you immigrants should expect to be doing in this country.
  • To non-immigrant children- lots of immigrants will end up having sex for money. That's all fine. No need to feel sorry for them or try to make a society in which they are better supported. They really don't mind it.
  • To all children- having sex with someone that you are not attracted to and/or don't really want to have sex with is not a big deal. If you think it is, you are being silly. Sometimes you will have to let people have sex with you to get the things you want or need.

Yes, definitely no safeguarding risk there.
Maerchentante · 27/09/2023 18:58

Have they completely lost their mind? Instead of doing something about prostitution and exploitation of women, they publish a graphic book and expect children to understand what prostitution is and how it is "good". Makes me want to scream.
And I can almost guarantee that parents who object will be ignored at best.

Berlin is as flush with cash as Birmingham is, if not worse off, yet they waste money on rubbish like that.

Wetandhorrible · 27/09/2023 19:45

Germany really do have a dodgy history on women's and children's rights: it's amazing how they get everyone thinking they're "progressive", almost like the magic word exempts any critical thinking from being involved.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/09/2023 20:24

It's horrific. So many stories have emerged of lots of events and initiatives, all seemingly designed to get children and their parents to accept that children should be exposed to explicit sexual content and it's all fine - good preparation for later life where porn is omnipresent, sex work is work, sex positivity is de rigeur, rape and other sexual offences have virtually been decriminalised, and universities produce guides for students explaining how to engage in sex work safely to earn money to pay for their accommodation.

Drag Queen Story Time, all over the place - some of the DQs have behaved inappropriately in front of young children, e.g twerking, many have had names and social media profiles you wouldn't want a young child to Google, and a few across the globe have turned out to have criminal records for child sexual abuse.

Don’t forget The Family Sex Show!

Whyisegg · 28/09/2023 02:27

No offense but I can't understand the outrage displayed here. We live in a world where disgusting, degrading pornography is not only easily and freely available, but considered to be a fundamental human behaviour - all guys watch porn right? That's totally normal right?? Somehow human beings managed to exist before the internet but if a 4 year old girl sees a video of a woman choking on an anonymous penis that's totally normal and healthy - because humans can't exist without porn! And sex work is work! It's the last thing anyone would want for anyone they care about but if someone wants to make money that way it's totally fine as long as they choose it. And disabled people who can't have sex the usual way are entitled to buy sex - they shouldn't be excluded! Some women love to sell their bodies and wouldn't want a normal job! They live to serve! They just want money! Not like most reasonable women....right?

it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad and grim.

FannyCann · 28/09/2023 08:23

I wonder why the EU has defined prostitution as a form of violence against women then @Whyisegg but we see you across many threads. We know what sort of person you are.

"On 14 September 2023, the European Parliament voted to support a resolutionn_ that defines prostitution as a form of violence and both a cause and a consequence of the persisting inequality between women and men."

Whyisegg · 28/09/2023 08:26

I am very opposed to prostitution - not sure what gave you any other impression
