I know it's a mistake but I thought this was rather funny :)

"Former Sun Editor Kelvin MacKenzie has praised Richard Ayoade’s show of support for cancelled comedian Richard Ayoade."

You know the mentality that you shouldn't read or have anything to do with certain media outlets is really bad for you mental health? It promotes and exacerbates the divisions in society and is one of the reasons that everything is so febrile right now. There's an old saying "attack the message not the messenger".
Without sites like GB news who are prepared to have gender critical voices on to express their views a lot of the general public would never get to hear gender critical views and ideas. Maybe the bogeymen aren't quite as literally Hitler as you think.

That's the fear people have.

Someone will watch GB news to see stuff on some specific topic. And fin them being fairly sensible.

Then they might think - maybe these guys aren't as evil and stupid as I assumed, What else do they have to say?

And then they see a different take on some other topics, and maybe some of it isn't stupid and evil, or it's even convincing, or worst of all, they realize their former sources were really giving a strong slant on the issue.

And all of a sudden they are questioning their political allegiances and maybe thinking about things on their own.

Ugh please - this mentality is so damaging. GB news thrives on an is predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society. Don’t try she pretend there’s anything more to it - nobody is obliged to mindlessly absorb toxins just because they might be on the right side in the whole trans debate. Stopped clocks etc

"GB news thrives on an is predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society."

Funnily enough that's how I feel about The Guardian, BBC, Channel 4, The Independent, The Metro, etc.

Is there any news outlet that is not "predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society"?

AIstolemylunch · 17/09/2023 03:57

Yes apart from the fact they have those utter bellends Jacob Ress Moggs and Farage on sometimes, GB news doesn t seem any worse than any other news outlet to me and at least they have FreeSpeech nation on which is something I believe in and you don't get elsewhere. I don't get the outrage really.

Ihavehadenoughalready · 17/09/2023 04:21

Sometimes a quote for a book is just a quote for an old friend's book by a fellow book writer.

I hope I can continue to enjoy the work of Richard Ayoade; I sincerely hope that him allowing a kind quote for Linehan's book was not an endorsement of Linehan's anti-LGBTQ rants.

Which is why you read widely. Read everything and read it critically. That's what I was taught about 1000 years ago by erudite professors who were obsessed with balance and critical thinking and examining one's position. People who advised Nelson Mandela read the IMF and World bank reports and the propaganda of the Apartheid regime. People who fled Chile read Pinochet and Thatcher. People who were involved in the Troubles read from both sides and the middle. The accepted wisdom was that you couldn't argue against a point until you could lay out what the point was from the POV of the people you disagreed with.

It made us better. Partisan reading is very very stupid. It is divisive whichever source you pick as your one and only. Whether it's The Guardian, The Independent or GB News. It makes you more stupid and certainly more ignorant. Even if it's only to know thine enemy, it's worth doing.

I completely agree with this and some of the earlier posters. I make a point of reading widely, including sources I don't automatically agree with, in order to educate and challenge myself. It is only by considering other points of view that we discover what we truly think.

Of course you can. It's only women with opinions you have to burn at the stake and cancel. Men can carry on their merry way. They're allowed opinions, preferences, likes and dislikes. And you can carry on giving them your money.

It's how you can tell penis-havers from vagina-havers when in doubt. See who is threatened with rape and murder for having an opinion. That will be vaginas all the way down.

HTH.

"Linehan's anti-LGBTQ rants"

You seem to have spilt your Alphabet Soup on that post. Are you one of those people who calls the LGB Alliance a "hate group"?

Pocodaku · 17/09/2023 06:43

@Ihavehadenoughalready Linehan has stood up for Ls being attacked and called vile names for not wanting to date/sleep with male-bodied Ts with fully intact genitalia. Stop the forced LGB teaming with TQ.

What an offensive post you’ve written. You certainly aren’t standing up for me, and I’m one of the letters you’ve rattled off. As a. LB-category woman, I can say Linehan regularly has stood up on my behalf.

Wish I could do gifs

WarriorN · 17/09/2023 07:26

And Mrs T's post is why I am not abandoning the bbc given most of the country just switch it on and listen.

I'll complain to them and hold them to account. Which they must have given their status.

Buffypaws · 17/09/2023 07:27

Glinner went on tv and got treated like a cunt for saying it’s not ok to give kids shite like lupron, and has now clearly been vindicated eg by Hannah Barnes’s book, the increasing number of detransitioners etc

he’s been accused of being anti lgbtq because he’s pointed out that certain organisations’ affiliations with paedophiles is not really ok.

the fact that people don’t address these very real issues and try to make out he is somehow evil is beyond me

He’s not always kind but the TRAs constantly going on about how he’s divorced… it’s fucking outrageous. And no one seems to notice that bit.

some people are fucking idiots

Yup. Knowing what everyone is seeing is actually important.
