I know it's a mistake but I thought this was rather funny :)

"Former Sun Editor Kelvin MacKenzie has praised Richard Ayoade’s show of support for cancelled comedian Richard Ayoade."

You’re beyond parody. I used your silly expression to show how ridiculous it is. You’re certainly still on your high horse and trying to force a narrative into someone you know nothing about. Keep watching your mind eroding nonsense - it’s showing. As for me, I have better things to read/learn from including - shock horror - sources diametrically opposed to what I believe in but not populist rubbish. Good luck with your journey down the rabbit hole!

And you are incredibly rude. Zero self awareness.

Someone has been taking primary level education classes in how to use adjectives to create maximum effect.

EasternStandard · 18/09/2023 08:07

I can see why we’re seeing change in the media.

If people feel the typical outlets are biased or captured then people will look for something else

The answer is don’t use state run to push an agenda not if you do expect push back

RebelliousCow · 18/09/2023 08:09

Also the lack of taught debating skills is very evident in many posts. There seems to be no understanding that it is possibe to argue from a persepctive one does not necessarily share. If you doesn't understand ( or even listen) the opponent's argument, how can you argue effectively against it.

In order to have some semblance of civilised discussion, rather than just name calling and abuse - you have to actually engage with the content of someone's argument. All we have above is the over-use of admonishing adjectives in order to put people down rather than deal with the issue.

When people don't feel they need to understand the opposite view, because they prioritise tribal alleginace and emotional response above all else then hostility and division ensues..........

Which is ironic goven we were supposed to be discussing the nature of division.

EasternStandard · 18/09/2023 08:13

That should be..

and if you do

itsmyp4rty · 18/09/2023 08:48

Of course the issue is that unless you agree that anyone who says the are a transwomen is 100% a women and should be welcomed into every women's space then you are transphobic. There is no discussion to be had beyond that.

Just reading this article on GL, it's an older one but I can't find anything to disagree with,

GB news thrives on an is predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society.

People thrive on creating and exploiting divisions in society.

The trick is to be able see through the bs.

That's why I use TikTok. The algorithm sends me general GC stuff, then will throw in some GB News GC stuff. Then it goes, 'hmm, maybe Tibetan likes GB news' so feeds me more of their stuff.

It's quite an interesting take, because you're fed such tiny snippets and make a gut reaction judgement call on its value. Idgaf if watching/not watching GB news is acceptable on MN - but the majority of 'other' stuff fed to me on TikTok is so blatantly designed to be controversial to try and make themselves relevant/viral that it devalues whatever message they're trying to get across.

I might well agree with more of their views if I sat and watched it for a day, but I don't care enough. As far as I'm concerned they make their name from being goady and controversial, with presenters known for being so 'edgy and outspoken' they can't get work anywhere else.

You see what Toctol wants you to see then.

Snippets aren't arguments, what you are doing is turning any content simply into an instinctive reaction piece, rather than engaging. Essentially shutting down the possibility of thought.

Of course no one has time for everything, but you have no business characterizing a news channel you've never really seen.

Rudderneck · 18/09/2023 10:25

Tictok, blast it.

Tactol sounds like some kind of pill.

"GB news thrives on an is predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society."

Funnily enough that's how I feel about The Guardian, BBC, Channel 4, The Independent, The Metro, etc.

Is there any news outlet that is not "predicated on creating and exploiting divisions in society"?

It's the nature of politics that it involves "division" and journalists make their money by writing or talking about it.

Presumably there are some good people, like at the Guardian, that are kind and compassionate people, and they just really want to raise awareness about issues they really care about.

On GB news, however, they are purely motivated by money. Or even worse, they just want to whip up hatred for the fun of it.

No one could have a sincere belief in anything that isn't leftie politics.

Oh gosh. That's very exciting. Revolutionary, even.

I'm hoping my sarcasm meter isn't giving me a faulty reading on your post.

Tell me that's sarcasm. I've been hurt before...

My father used to read the Daily Telegraph - definitely not my newspaper of choice - and I’d have a flick through it occasionally. On one of these occasions, I read a letter saying that its writer read the Telegraph because, many years ago, his University tutor told him that he shouldn’t read newspapers that only agreed with the views he already held.
I thought that was good advice and have followed a wide range of news outlets ever since.
