National Trust AGM

I’ve received an email from the National Trust inviting me and all other members to vote in their AGM. Does anyone know if there are any things a woman’s rights advocate should vote for or against. Eg TWAW by stealth.

I'm so bored of it. I'm so bored of the creeping Americanisation of our culture.

I posted this on the white feminism thread but I've just finished This is Not America - why black lives in Britain matter by Tomiwa Owolade and it's a great critique and explains very clearly why we can't just transpose US ideology to the U.K. because it simply doesn't fit.

That sounds interesting.

Can you provide a specific example of ideology from the US that doesn’t map into the UK from any of my posts? And explain why. Feel free to quote from any of them.

BurnToastAgain · 08/09/2023 19:56

Has anyone here got a five year old child? I think we need a different level of debate 🤣 The ability to stick out their tongue and shout poo head would be beneficial too!

Rightsraptor · 08/09/2023 19:58

Many of our plants in the UK originated in China.

Can you tell us the names of even some of those plants you saw that came from the sugar plantation, @DatumTarum? I've been to the Caribbean and the climate is a teeny bit different from ours in the UK.

@TheHoover it seems you and other contributors in the thread can't tell the difference between "tell us about this house/the family in the context of this historical event" and "tell us about this historical event". Many of us want more of the former, and not the latter.

But the latter hasn’t happened actually has it? So why are you getting your knickers in such a twist?

Why don’t you answer the questions put to you? Is it a playground game? You don’t answer any questions but pose dozens? I don’t think I’ve played this game since primary school 🤔🙄

List your questions and I’ll answer them

on the part of conservatives
How to tell us you have no clue about most of the posters on the thread.

Pissed-off lefties or centrists, a lot of us.

Small ‘c’ conservatives in your attitudes demonstrates here though.

Slavery is the Provence of the house and contents in many cases.

Who do you think picked the cotton in the tapestries?

I don’t think you know much about history if you think tapestries were made using cotton. They were made from wool and linen, so you would be better off discussing feudalism

Actually I started this thread not wanting to vote for TRAs

No you won’t. You’re permanently on transmit. Your receiver is broken 😞

Gosh, would small 'c' conservative values be unusual for regular National Trust visitors?

Perhaps the NT should introduce some kind of attitudes screening test as part of the joining process. I'm sure NT management would feel wretched if they realised the NT was receiving income from the wrong sort of people!

Have you ever been wrong? Asking on behalf of a friend 🤭

It’s hard to take you seriously then if you complain about people not answering your questions….if you don’t actually have any.

It’s you that have deemed it to be an insult. I was merely using it in a factual manner.

I’ve got an idea. Why don’t you read the thread yourself and answer everyone’s questions? You seem to think you can get others to do the work for you just as you think you can insult us all and that’ll get us to descend to madness too. Eventually you’ll have to realise your tactics aren’t working. Won’t you? Actually, I think you might believe you’re “winning” in topsy turvey land 😆😆😆

I’ve already responded to all main themes the comments and the specific comments in which I was tagged/tagged.

I would say of all the ill informed, factually in accurate nonsense I’ve seen on this thread, your own contributions have been by some distance the most pathetic.

TheHoover · 08/09/2023 20:36

@BurnToastAgain please do count the personal insults (as opposed to rational arguments) that you have levelled at others in your posts on this thread. At a glance I have counted 15 on 2 pages.

This seems an unexpected pivot to France. Is Provence the French region most renowned for involvement in the slave trade?

I would have presumed it would be one of France's former overseas territories, like Haiti, but I know next to nothing about French history.

Maybe what was meant was provenance? I'm imaging the french region most connected with slavery is perhaps Guadelupe and Martinique - in the Caribbean?

Are you even trying right now?

I know it's hot, but really.

I haven't deemed it an insult, have I? I've asked if it's supposed to be unusual amongst the NT's current subscribers.

Is it unusual?

Because if it isn't unusual, then there is no point remarking on it as a trait on a thread about the NT. Nor is there any point railing about it. It would be like complaining that regular viewers of Top Gear tend to be car owners.

How do you think calling me names is helping your cause? As a recruiting tactic for new cult members I’d have to judge it a total failure. How many hearts and minds do you think you’ve won with your multiple patronising posts? I’ll give you a clue … zero at last count 🤯

Yay! I’m only trying to debate on the same level as the SJWs. I’m pleased that it’s working 🤗 Or should I be kiiiiiiiiind?

This thread could get really exciting, horticulturally speaking. We've already heard that there is an NT property with a garden mostly planted with species native to the Caribbean, which were brought back from sugar plantations.

Does France have such gardens too? Maybe in the south?
