I doubt he actually hates women.
I’d guess it’s an ingrained attitude that women are fairly irrelevant, unless you want something cleaned, or your tea cooking, or a cuddle and sympathy (or more) or whatever other need requires meeting. Like a teenager’s view of their mum.
But he probably doesn’t think women (in general) are clever, or funny, or can think for the themselves. That’s man stuff. You don’t go to a woman for an opinion!
I’ve met plenty of men who seem to think women exist just to be background characters in the story of men’s lives. Behind the scenes facilitating men getting on with the real important stuff.
He probably would sincerely tell you he thinks women are great, wonderful! But just not as great as men.
