Oh Trinny …

Have just watched the latest episode of her Takeover show on You Tube…

…I’m very disappointed…

… and to think I used to be a fan.😧

I’m sure she has done it to appear cool and relevant but if her target market for Trinny London is women of a certain age, then I think this might have the opposite effect. I for one am certainly reconsidering buying her products now.

I’m deliberately not commenting on the individual concerned who seemed a nice enough person, but speaking very generally, are we meant to applaud Trinny for affirming and enabling people’s delusions?

She did do a little piece to camera at the end acknowledging that some people watching the video “may not be understanding”.

We’ll still looked like a bloke in a dress to me, which is fine where what you want etc, but stay out of women’s spaces, sport’s prisons and shortlists etc

This is a great example of how the Streisand effect has impacted on my perception of trans women.....

What is the Streisand effect? I'm assuming you're referring to Barbra Streisand?

I thought Skyler seemed quite fragile. I thought some of the outfits she put them in were hideous. I think the final outfit looked like an ice-skating outfit complete with the nylon-tights-like insert over the chest. I’d like to hear a bit of backstory because I sense there is one. Does Trinny know their Mum? Has Skyler been depressed and Trinny thought they could do with a bit of a pick me up? It was all so fawning and gushing - ‘I LURVE big shoulders!’ Maybe Trinny wants to carve out a role as one of those stylists that takes middle-aged transwomen shopping for their new womanly persona. I don’t think I’d be rushing to her going on that session. Good luck Trinny!

JosieOhNo · 08/08/2023 10:27

At the end when they were gazing at the mirror, Trinny had the oddest expression on her face. I'm likely to be projecting but it was almost a will I get away with this? Is this totally crazy?

It's from when Streisand's hone was put on a celebrity homes map. She kicked up a massive fuss which drew attention to the fact and more people came to look. If she had just kept quiet, no one would have really noticed.....

Many, many years ago I had a bash at putting make up on my fella. It was my idea, the reason is lost in the depths of time. It just didn't work. Fell at the first hurdle. My foundation just wouldn't spread on his skin. His pores were really obvious. I had to slather it on so thick it looked ridiculous. Ruined my makeup sponge too, skin like a fecking microplane.

Perhaps oestrogen changes male skin. I read tw saying their skin felt softer. Perhaps that's true, perhaps they're kidding themselves.

beguilingeyes · 08/08/2023 11:12

I've been boycotting her for years for her relationship with Saatchi. I didn't know they'd split up (still extremely dubious of her to hook up with him in the first place).
A few years ago I saw Douglas Hodge, who's a good looking guy play the lead in La Cage Aux Folles, mostly in drag. He said that he'd always imagined that he'd look like Audrey Hepburn in drag but he looked like a truck driver. I bet most of them think they look like Audrey Hepburn.

Oh Trinny …

I wonder if transwomen find women's make up doesn't work well for them? I just think there would be intrinsic difference in skin. A transwoman writes a beauty piece for the Times and have often wondered who the target audience is because both women and transwomen are making assumptions that our needs are similar. Are they? Make up has had to make major adjustments for black women because they were ignored, in the West, for years. Are the companies researching, or just on the make. Too few transwomen for them to make a commitment to a makeup range and I assume transwomen would object

Foundation gets stuck in the beard growing pores.

It wasn't a celebrity homes map (not unreasonable to not want your address advertised to weirdos and stalkers); it was photographed during a coastal erosion survey. Only a few oceanographers and environmentalists would have ever read the report if she hadn't kicked up a legal fuss.

Yes maybe I’m projecting JosieOhNo but I thought that too!

This episode just emphasised to me and I think to Skyler, that male and female bodies are so different. Trinny seemed unable to see or maybe just couldn’t accept this fact, couldn’t be seen to fail.
He couldn’t do the big shoulder jacket because he already has big shoulders, so it looked ridiculous, but when Trinny put that jacket on it look fab. Trying to balance hips and shoulders couldn’t work because he has no hips, you can’t emphasise a small waist because he doesn’t have a waist.

I thought the whole episode was desperately sad, even at the end he couldn’t wear that dress because he has false breasts and it would have been obvious in a skimpy dress, hence the skin coloured cover up underneath.

The only improvement was his hair. I preferred his original clothing and it would have been even better if he’d just rocked a great androgynous look, as a man.

cosmumsaysso · 08/08/2023 11:46

Trinny trying to be genuinely enthusiastic about the whole charade and failing. He's a delicate gay man! Wearing a frock and shaving his Adams apple ain't gonna solve his problems.

The hilarious reveal at the end, he looked like a trans Trinny!🤣. You cldnt miss the resemblance!🤣🤣🤣
Agree with previous comment. He needs a dose of the real world. It was all a bit sad and pathetic.

ValerieDoonican · 08/08/2023 11:59

Oh my goodness that made me so uncomfortable.

For one thing it reminded me how much I grew to dislike Trinny and Susannah back in the day with their ridiculous rules and offensive bossiness.

But I felt so sorry for poor Skyler. Can they really only be comfortable after undergoing painful and dangerous surgery including on their throat (owww!), taking drugs that do who knows what, and dressing like a Primark red carpet every day? And as pps point out, will they be comfortable even then? The thing about being an actual woman is that you can wear jeans and a T-shirt and be yourself. Skyler seems headed for a lifetime of calibration and second guessing their appearance 100 times a day.

Surely there has to be a better way to relieve gender dysphoria than this?

(Weirdly it also kind of highlighted to me why I kind of hate all makeover shows (clothes, homes, gardens, the lot) Just fuck off with your lady/lord bountiful "genius". ) But this one had me cringing so hard my skin was crawling.

Melroses · 08/08/2023 01:46

Wasn't she with Nigella's ex (the one photographed grabbing her by the throat in a restaurant)? Not sure about her critical thinking skills tbh, nor the obsession with v necklines.

Yeah so much for sisterhood! I lost all respect when she got together with Saatchi.

I'm starting to think it's sport. Any sport. Anything that gets you moving and outside. (But not invading women's spaces obviously.)

Dog walking, climbing, hiking, riding, team sports, tai chi, judo, trampolining.
Ritchie's (who detransed and is suing the local nhs) gone for archery.

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 12:06

Golf, gold detectoring.

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 12:07

Apart from boosting mental health, it's all going to help your muscles and bones.

Lottapianos · 08/08/2023 12:11

'I'm starting to think it's sport. Any sport. Anythingthat gets you moving and outside. (But not invading women's spaces obviously.)'

As a fairly late convert to exercise, I think you have a very good point. Exercise gets you out of your own head, and the emphasis is on what your body can do, and how you can challenge it to do a bit more. It's a great antidote to anxiety about what you look like

ValerieDoonican · 08/08/2023 12:18

You may be on to something. Competence (and in a team sport, shared objectives and achievements) could be a useful corrective to the mad inward-lookingness of it all.

Though maybe not the me-sculpting classes that I suspect Trinny may be keen on....

DyslexicPoster · 08/08/2023 12:21

I'd have to agree with the widow Tawnkey comment. It brings to mind a panto dame or overly sexual look / imagine in my head. I'm not sure I'd buy from a range marketed like that. Even taking a sequined bag makes me feel like drag queen some days now, and I love sparkles.

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 12:25

What ever your personality, there's a type of outdoor activity (or indoor) you can do. I love body boarding and wish I hadn't felt like it wasn't as impressive as actual surfing for a few years, because quite frankly I can catch way more waves than a surfer.

I used to love riding but that's too £££ for me right now!

Charlize43 · 08/08/2023 12:39

Didn't Trinny immediately take up with that man who tried to choke Nigella Lawson in a restaurant? I lost all respect for her then.

Scousemousey · 08/08/2023 12:45

I may have misheard but did Skyler say near the start that a trans woman's feet had got smaller on hrt? How is that possible?
Sadly after all the efforts, he still couldn't pass, even in a bad light. 🙁

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 12:46

I would imagine water retention does the opposite.
