I’ve no words tbh. Utterly disgusted by the misogyny.

Misogyny and stupidity.

chocciecake · 12/06/2023 13:54

That's shocking

smooththecat · 12/06/2023 13:56

Can you link the actual source?

Interested about the lack of ‘non-woman’ here.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/06/2023 13:58

I am quite amused by the idea you can be a gay man without being attracted to other men in any of those ways but merely by identifying as a member of the gay community. At least to be a lesbian you have to actually be attracted to other non men.

I think its the same as this:

https://studentaffairs.jhu.edu/lgbtq/education/glossary/

At the start of the glossary it says

"No glossary could encompass the range of identities and terms that are used within LGBTQIA+ communities. If you hear a term you don’t recognize, or feel like someone is using a term in a new way, ask the individual what the term means to them. This glossary is meant as an introduction to the community, and is not the definitive answer as to how everyone understands these terms."

Oh FGS.

Surely these people are trolling us?

Cashycashy · 12/06/2023 14:04

Astonishing. Where has common sense gone??

mamakoukla · 12/06/2023 14:09

WTAF

I quote “Sex Assigned at Birth: This term is a more inclusive alternative to “sex” or “biological sex,” as it recognizes that sex categories are socially constructed, rather than biologically mandated, and that one’s sex assigned at birth does not automatically determine one’s gender identity.”

PriOn1 · 12/06/2023 14:23

I hope this nonsense stops. I feel we are entering a new dark age, where misogynistic ignorance is everywhere.

RealityFan · 12/06/2023 14:29

There's obviously a PR Central that is sending out these definitions.

Because no way would seperate organisations come up with the term "non-men" independently.

And so it is with non-men, currently in use within multiple bodies.

Same with "found family" and it's use in places as diverse as Oxfam and Primark.

Conclude from that what you will.

RoseslnTheHospital · 12/06/2023 14:30

Sex categories are socially constructed are they? Despite the fact that animals without any capacity to socially construct them manage to reproduce.... ffs.

I really thought in that late 90s early 2000s that we'd made progress with the idea that men and women are not defined by or limited to social expectations based on an individual's sex. But nope, we're dragged back into this idea that how you behave or feel determines your identity and now your actual sex as well. Garbled anti-science tosh, the whole "glossary".

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:31

This made me think of this:

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:32

It's a genius idea. We eradicate sexism by eradicating sex.

Why on earth didn't women think of this before.

Here’s my positive take (I’m trying here) - it’s so absurd that it’s an own goal? Might peak more people etc.

@mamakoukla

That's crazy... if "sex assigned at birth" is intended to replace "sex", then what do they reckon is being assignedat birth?

It's similar to "A transwoman is a woman".

No one can define what a woman is so what is a transwoman?

loislovesstewie · 12/06/2023 15:05

So women are now 'non men'!!!! I'm also a non cat, non dog, non octopus etc. This is utterly disgusting. We are being erased.

yetanotherusernameAgain · 12/06/2023 15:13

Their definition of Lesbian isn't even logical as it can include non-binary people who identify as lesbian, but who weren't necessarily female at birth. So a male who identifies as non-binary and is attracted to 'non-men' can therefore identify as 'lesbian'.

@RubyTrees - They don't have definitions for trans man/woman. Presumably they don't exist any more either? It's just 'transgender'.

SidewaysOtter · 12/06/2023 15:16

So...a gay man is a gay man but a gay woman is a non-man attracted to non-men.

How lovely that women are defined only by what they are not.

Hmm
JayAlfredPrufrock · 12/06/2023 15:17

We knew it would come to this.

Men and non-men.

Still fucking Spartacus.
