Thread 1:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4776556-a-mumsnet-thread-about-a-book-about-a-mumsnet-thread-under-the-duvet-of-darkness-written-by-the-women-of-mumsnet?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

You do not need to have read thread 1 – this is not that sort of thread.

But to recap… Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

“Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” was published as a paperback on 31st March 2023.

Available on Amazon only: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C129WKDD

In a rather bizarre turn of events at one point it reached No 2 in poetry best sellers and No 5 in Feminist Criticism best sellers. No one will be surprised to discover that a book that is in the main about people, especially men, claiming to be something they are not was kept off the No1 spot in poetry best sellers by a crime novel, identifying as poetry, written by a man ;-)

E-BOOK:

Some people wanted an e-book rather than a paperback, but for that we needed someone who could actually make an e-book and some extra poems.

FairyKindleMother came to the rescue with regards the e-book and posters wrote enough poems that we could add 20 more poems into the e-book.

I pressed publish on the e-book a few hours ago. It can take usually up to 3 days to appear and populate all the info etc on the various sites, and there is always the chance they knock it back for some reason. But I've done all I can do at this point. We just have to wait and see who spots it on sale first! It will appear on the Amazon link above hopefully soon, (or I'll get an email asking me to change something).

MONEY FROM SALES OF ALL FORMATS:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.

“It’s not hate to defend your rights, and it’s not hate to speak the truth.”
Magdalen Berns (1983 – 2019)

As I started work on the e-book posters continued to write poems. So we had a choice: leave them there, languishing on the thread, unloved, forgotten, never to have their words uttered again OR we could just do volume 2.

Posters voted for Volume 2 but we still need more poems!

And that’s the gist of thread 1.

I'm just thinking of the many wonderful occasions at school when Gingerbread will be able to go, "well Sir as a published political poet..."

Glad you're on the mend @Boiledbeetle

Love the latest @ArcaneWireless

@CervixSampler demonstrating that, however deluded IW may be, only women can grow cervixes. And published poets.

CervixSampler · 25/09/2023 09:46

Which of the twin drs is the one they believes that people can change sex? My mum is horrified that a doctor can believe this. Didn't want to start a thread elsewhere and you never know, there might be a poem in it! In fact, as a nurse, I think we could do with. Chapter in volume 3 about the NHS and healthcare.

Boiledbeetle · 25/09/2023 09:51

Is that the two brothers? were quite cute when younger?

I wouldn't want that to be my doctor if he believes that shit.

what is this volume three people speak of?

Volume 2 is still a random pile of paper and computer bytes!

There's a book today in Amazon's Daily Deals for the kindle called 'You Grow Girl'. It's by a woman, Dr Zoe Williams, former Gladiator, currently working for the NHS, with a picture of a binder on the cover. One of the 1* reviews is satisfyingly scathing.

Boiledbeetle · 25/09/2023 09:59

this one?

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 August 2023

"Depicts a girl in a breast binder thus peddling the lie to children as young as NINE that they may have been born in the wrong body.

This pernicious ideology manipulates and damages young minds. Before this ‘social contagion’ took root, only about 1 in 110,000 people reported genuine gender dysphoria - now high-school teachers are reporting ten in every class. The result: girls as young as 15 having double mastectomies, boys of 16 being castrated, and thousands of teenagers taking irreversible puberty blockers with unknown long-term health effects (they give the boys Lupron, the drug used to perform chemical castration of violent sex offenders). Make no mistake, this is wrecking lives.

Speak up against this tragedy and you’re branded a transphobe or a TERF to silence any reasonable debate. I’m neither. What I am is a parent who’s deeply worried about the effects of this lie on children.

Want your child to hate and mutilate themself? Buy this book."

So I’m no longer a woman I am a non-man.

My daughter is no longer a girl but a non-boy.

My female hound is a non-dog.

My Aunt is a non-uncle

My Sister is my non-brother

And the world has finally lost the fucking plot

Yep

Incidentally, this would make a great poem for Boiledbeetle's book!

Boiledbeetle · Yesterday 22:42
It would! it has the required indignation and swearing combination!

If @MrInbetween wants it to be I'm more than happy to oblige

MrInbetween · Today 06:44
@Boiledbeetle I would be beyond honoured 🤣

It was not intentional to be poetic, turns out that us what happens when you’re really pissed off

@SinnerBoy By the by, Sumatripan sounds like an island with orangutans...

It does doesn't it!

Twas a short lived one! But I've had a fair few like that lately, which means I'm building up to a doozy of an attack at some point. Which as much as I hate them is a relief in a way when it happens, as then I go back to the start of the cycle again and get relief for a while before the next round of lets drive beetle insane begins!

(The best thing they ever did was stick the biggest needle I've ever seen in the back of my skull, god knows what they injected in it but it was amazing! they've been much better since then)

And now I must stop thinking of migraines as my brain has just gone oooh migraines... I'll get right on with that! I must distract it with other things, so I best get on with doing something with many many poems!

ooh cat videos...

Boiledbeetle · 27/09/2023 20:26

after much reshuffling of categories, poems, etc I think I've got my chapter order and poem order sorted. There may Still be slight poem movement within a chapter but i think it works!!

Does happy dances now that the floor in the living room doesn't look like I've thrown paper everywhere.

And, drum roll....

There is in total 150 poems going in!!!!

150

150! Great stuff! Very impressive organising @Boiledbeetle I'm in awe that you can power through a migraine to get all of that done. It sounds full-on.

Also, I'm loving the unintended poetry that results from being pissed off. Brilliant (accidental) work MrInbetween 👏

Boiledbeetle · 27/09/2023 21:01

I've had them for nearly forty years, I know my limits. It's only when they are hemiplegic that they completely stop me. Then I spend a week doing a good impersonation of a stroke victim! Tis a joy

OP posts:
IcakethereforeIam · 27/09/2023 23:33

I've seen a few post that I thought with a few tweaks might make poetry but the accidental one was perfect.

Well done Dame@Boiledbeetle hope your head stays on the mend.

I've had the Fields of Athenry as an earworm since I pirated it for WWW. Except now the first lines go

By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young girl calling
'Why, the fuck, is there a man in my cell?'

Boiledbeetle · 28/09/2023 17:35

You know there are two poems in the first book that were originally comments, but after some discussion with the posters became poems.

IcakethereforeIam · 28/09/2023 18:31
