Lionsgate have hired Dylan Mulvaney to promote the Judy Blume adaptation of Are you there God, it's me Margaret.

Pretty gutted. I was looking forward to watching that.

You can still watch it... nothing's stopping you. Find something a bit more important to worry about in the world than who Lionsgate are hiring as promoters😒

RelaxingClassics · 17/05/2023 23:30

Is this because Judy Bloom said she supported JKR then had to say she didn't?

No I can't actually. It's ruined it for me. And if we don't show that we care then they will keep hiring men instead of women. I don't get to chose who promotes their films, but I do get to vote with my feet and not give them money to watch it.

No it's because they are paying a man instead of a woman to promote a film about female puberty.

I agree and won't watch either as it's just so wrong.

She means that's probably why they are doing this.

Yes, I meant is the hiring of DM an attempt at damage limitation because of Judy Blooms comments? Whatever their thinking it's utterly bonkers.

EmmelinePankhurstWeNeedYouNow · 18/05/2023 00:15

OP, please stop being so transphobic.

DM is more than capable of teaching us mere natal females about puberty and periods - didn’t you know that DM is promoting Tampax and Nike women’s sportswear too!

The patriarchy is good and well.

Agree. How can a biological male understand female puberty.

Bloody women just won't take their reprogramming will they? Why won't they shut-up about all they hold dear being trashed by men?!

Just because he is doesn't mean we have to accept it? You do realise we're all allowed to think for ourselves don't you?

Timeforchangeithink · 18/05/2023 08:21

Duh too early to get it! 😔

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 18/05/2023 08:28

Next up Rachel Dolezal promoting a film about apartheid

🤬

musixa · 18/05/2023 08:41

The film will probably be a disappointment anyway - that kind of thing always is. They'll jazz it up through a 21st Century lens of irony, and lose the spirit of the original novel.

It's brilliant actually. Although I haven't read the book.
Such a shame they've ruined it with DM.

a shame

Needmorelego · 18/05/2023 08:47

Is this Dylan Whoever actually doing "promotion" for the film or did he/she just do an interview with Judy Blume?
I have read a whole load of interviews and articles with Judy Blume and about the film - she's talked to loads of different people and journalists - not just Dylan.
I actually had to Google who Dylan is (I've seen the name on Mumsnet a lot but actually had no idea who he/she is). Just seems like a 'character' that he/she/they are doing. The interview with Judy this Dylan seemed to be dressed like a 1960s suburban housewife. All very odd.
Anyway....
I am still going to see the film.
I have been re reading my copy of the book.
I plan to buy a new copy as mine is a bit fragile now.
Love Judy Blume, love Margaret.....this Dylan is an unimportant person who has nothing to do with the film.
Nothing is ruined for me.

Needmorelego · 18/05/2023 08:50

@musixa every review I have read says the film is great.
Someone I know who has seen one of the previews loved it.
Even the one in The Guardian which was reviewed by a middle age bloke who has probably never read a Judy Blume book in his life gave it a good thumbs up !

I don't really go by reviews, for the simple reason that some of my favourite films have been panned by the critics.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 18/05/2023 09:16

Wow. This is infuriating.

I was also looking forward to watching this, and now feel it's tainted. I'm also fucking annoyed with Blume for essentially withdrawing her support for JKR.

Abhannmor · 18/05/2023 09:23

Poor Judy. This is her ' going to Canossa ' moment.

Hagosaurus · 18/05/2023 10:42

Hmm, she didn’t have to do it though did she? She’s hardly a nobody at the start of their career who can’t afford to grow a spine

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/05/2023 11:15

I've just realised that there is no vomit emoticon.

lechiffre55 · 18/05/2023 11:23

Why is this always males advertising women specific products to women?
Is there a single example of a female who wants to be a man advertising men's products to men?

Take DM and Bud Light, that was a male who wants to be a woman advertising beer to men.

It seems the target market doesn't matter it's ALWAYS males who want to be women being chosen to represnt the brand. Why is it always one way?
