No. But trans women are not the threat that people are trying to make them out as.

they are such a small minority. Leave them be and stop seeing them as an existential threat when they are simply not.

hope that helps.

Mishy wants males to not have access to female spaces?
I knew you were a terf all along, Mish! Although most terfs are able to say what a woman is, so you've got a bit of training to do (don't worry, it's very simple)! GrinWink

Sunnava · 27/04/2023 09:56

Redbird87 · 27/04/2023 05:21

Terfness isn't spread by terfs, each one is the result of a woman either directly abused by people like this or who have witnessed others ripped to shreds, called names anyone else would have their teeth knocked out for, or even facing deaths threats.

I was for trans rights when I was transmasc, until people like this mocked me for being abused by a tw and I noticed how common it is for even "queer" women to be thrown under the bus in the name of centering men.

Every "terf" (MOST not even radical feminists!) is the result of a light bulb moment like that. No one looks at the vitriol being sent to us and thinks that's a fun way to go about life, be reasonable.

Great post, thank you.

The more I watch this film, the more I realise that women’s rights is the hill I’m willing to die on.

Just listened to the film- I think it might be my hill too. Well argued and presented discussion

SnowAndIcicles · 27/04/2023 10:54

I just watched the film for the first time because of all the fuss at Edinburgh University yesterday, so thanks for the nudge.

It's really well put together, very factual and indeed it's made me more determined to get involved in feminism. It's important that people become aware of what is happening.

Eyesofdisarray · 27/04/2023 11:35

Mishy- you are very negative and very very rude

Please watch this it is from Aja the Empress, one of the women who appeared in the film, talking about yesterday.

Mishy, please can you tell me how transwomen are not male?

Because I am firmly of the belief that while most men are not a threat to women and girls, some men are, so ALL men should abide by the social contract and stay out of women's single sex (female, for the avoidance of doubt) spaces.

Transwomen are male even if they don't see themselves as men, therefore should stay out of female only spaces.

Watching the film now. Very informative for a newbie I imagine. No wonder the nutters wanted to stop it.

Forwarder · 27/04/2023 15:33

Where are public screenings of the film advertised? Sure I can watch it on youtube but I would also like to exercise my right to watch it at a venue.

lanadelgrey · 27/04/2023 15:57

I have watched it live, twice, and with the directors talking afterwards.
As I recall, they are happy for it to be shown in public - it’s just a case of finding a good venue and ensuring the audience can gather without mobs gathering

I very much hope that the high ups at UofE are feeling at least some embarrassment.

You’d think but these people are often very convinced of their own righteousness

Buffypaws · 27/04/2023 17:54

Kind of irritated, although didn’t surprise me, that Useless mentioned he is all for trans rights and neglected to say he is also for women’s rights

Shelefttheweb · 29/04/2023 11:51

Not good enough. Why were security not supporting women? Why were staff networks allowed to encourage preventing the screening? It smacks of ‘oh dear, did it happen again? What a shame.’

Tulipsemerging · 29/04/2023 15:06

MishyJDI · 26/04/2023 21:13

It’s probably a good thing as it stops social contagion of terfness to the general population. There is enough out there already spreading fear and derision

Don't you mean following facts such as you cannot change your sex and that sex genomes are in every cell of the body. Yes you can change your gender but you cannot actually become a woman if you were born a male and vice versus regardless of how many bits you chop off or add. Pumping mixed up teenagers with hormone suppressors and suggesting they can change sex is very dominating too.

One day people will look back at the erasure of women and how some men and female handmaidens want to stop them talking, having opinions and stating facts.

Tulipsemerging · 29/04/2023 15:11

@MishyJDI "Transwomen are five times more likely to be incarcerated for sex offences than other men." Perhaps therefore a reason that women don't want them in the safe spaces.

Can anyone there confirm that this is correct, the university security put up barriers protecting the tra-gits who were blocking the entrances!?

Sorry, if this has been covered upthread.

The statement issued by the University is very wishy-washy. They need to start expelling some people.

And finally. Ahem! Indulge me

🎂 cake!!!

Sorry.

OK response from the Principal. Not quite as strong as I’d like, but generally taking the right line:

https://www.ed.ac.uk/news/staff/2023/statement-from-the-principal

I would like to express my extreme disappointment that last night, for the second time in six months, we were left with no alternative but to stop the screening of 'Adult Human Female' because of safety concerns for attendees.

FFS they start off with a lie. Of course they could have had the screening. They knew what happened the first time. Yet they did nothing to stop it happening again. And when it did happen again it was just 'oh well there's nothing we can do'.

Well for starters having let it happen a second time they could have got security to remove the people blocking the entrance. They could have formed a path through to allow the women to attend. They could have insisted all the protesters either allow entrance or they would be removed from their courses.

But once again they allowed women to be heckled and bullied and misrepresented and stopped from going to watch a film they had tickets for.

So they can stick their statement where the sun doesn't shine.
