BBC

"Shona grey is still married to the man she knew as..."

Just to note that PM reporting on this in the headlines emphasised the male aspect a lot

I noticed that too. I thought I heard that the offenses were committed "when they identified as a man called Adam Graham" so there was a pronoun and a misgendering.

Great spot! I missed it when I read the article, probably because it just seemed so natural that it didn't stand out.
I wonder if the same happened when it went in i.e. the journalist writing it just didn't over think it.
It will be interesting to look back on this article in a few hours/days and see if it still says "he" at that point. Screenshot added to show current wording...

@FusionChefGeoff Not a great surprise.... The "he" has gone....

I was watching bbc news when the news broke. Presenter was he/himming a good few times, I couldn't believe my ears! Then they did the pre-recorded bit of the report where they go into the case and showed his photo sans silly wig (which I thought was good too, so people watching can see exactly who we're talking about here).

Anyway, cut back to the presenter to sum up the story again, and this time it was "she" this and "she" that Confused

It makes me wonder if there’s a mini-revolt going on in the BBC newsroom. Presenter uses he/him, gets told not to during the pre-recorded bit, does as producer tells them afterwards… but the point has been made.

Similar for the first version of the online article. They know the pronouns won’t stay up for long, but at least they were up.

According to these guidelines rape should be 4 – 19 years’ custody. So this means for 2 rapes he's getting two absolute minimum terms, which seems excessivly lenient consider he's got two rapes under his belt already.

WTAF? Hopefully the leniency of the sentence will be appealed.

UWhatNow · 28/02/2023 20:02

On radio 4 they said “she committed the rapes when she was a man” !!!! I wanted to shout through the radio ‘He is STILL a man’ 🙄

The key phrase for me though came from the judge “you think you are the victim, but you are not.” That sums up a lot of this whole debate for me…

UWhatNow · 28/02/2023 20:03

…This was before his ex-wife was interviewed and called him and his alleged transition ‘a joke’.

Absolutely!

At the point Bryson committed the crimes
They hadn't transitioned hence the use
Of different pronouns when reporting on different points in the chronology

He still hasn’t transitioned into anything. Putting on a bad wig to cover your face tattoos, and some pink leggings showing the outline of his meat and veg, doesn’t make him a woman.

FictionalCharacter · 28/02/2023 20:16

On the news just now there was a very brief report about his sentencing. There was that photo of him in the wig and leggings, holding an umbrella, but it wasn’t the pic where the frontal part of the leggings is visible 🤔 Has that particular photo ever been shown on TV?

Supersimkin2 · 28/02/2023 20:20

So dyslexia makes you a rapist?

Supersimkin2 · 28/02/2023 20:21

Those leggings.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 28/02/2023 20:25

Spot on @FictionalCharacter. The whole fiasco is a disgrace. I won't start on Nicola 'it could never happen' Sturgeon.

GarveySister · 28/02/2023 20:30

That photo needs to be dragged up regularly so the public can all be reminded of what we are being told to do when we blindly follow this nonsense.

We are being told to look at someone displaying a cock and balls in pink leggings and say that he is a woman.

We are being told to call a rapist - a crime that can only be committed by a male - a woman.

We are being told to put a dubious feeling in this person’s head before what we know with every sense we have and every fiver in our being to be reality and the truth.

That horrible picture is priceless.

GarveySister · 28/02/2023 20:31

fiber

uhtredbebbanburg · 28/02/2023 20:37

Apart from the sentences being appallingly short for 2rapes, he should also be getting more time for the BS he’s trying to pull. Wasn’t his defense that there were 3 victims? The total disregard for his victims and trying to cynically get himself into a women’s prison (so he could abuse again) should be taken into account.

ArabellaScott · 28/02/2023 20:37

Isla Bryson is just as much a transwoman as any other transwoman.

He is a man. He always will be.

Supersimkin2 · 28/02/2023 20:39

Skintight stretch fibre. 😝

I didn’t know what it was at first - I thought what on earth is that partygoer in a crooked wig with the most frightful attack of thrush doing in the newspaper 😀

Say what you like, those leggings are a better deterrent to women than anything the justice system produces.

These are for England though. Official Scottish sentencing guidelines on sexual offences are still in progress of being created.

ReunitedThorns · 28/02/2023 13:14

In many respects I'm disappointed that reports refer to him as "he", they should call him "she" and at the bottom of the article have an section stating that due to editorial guidance issued by trans rights groups they must refer to him as "she".

Oh, well they must use she, of course - Stonewall have told them to

Fucksake

bellabasset · 28/02/2023 20:51

I clearly misinterpreted the sentence for *s/h/it as I'd assumed it was 8 years for EACH rape

*s/h/it comes from the urban directory when you can't define gender.

TinaYouFatLard · 28/02/2023 20:52

If TWAW then this person is a woman. It’s the logical conclusion.

All men are men.

But in the photo on the news tonight, you couldn’t see the C&B because he was holding a bag or something in front of him. So I’m wondering whether the majority of people have seen the version in which the C&B can be seen so clearly. There are still people who think that he “did these crimes before transitioning” and that transitioning means gender reassignment surgery. People out there aren’t getting to see the Islas and Karens for what they physically are.

Yep. This rapist is a transwoman, and is a man.
